Fresh sushi rolls… good but not the greatest. I’m a big sushi eater and this was more on the ok side. i’d come again though. Free green tea. Not sure if it was just that night that I went but the waitress forgot about us. Forgot so much that we left without paying… realized that and went back to pay and all that was said was… oh thank you. So if you’re in the mood for sushi rolls then this place is good but if you’re looking for some great sushi, I’d skip this place.

Location is a bit off the beaten path, but worth trying. The selection of fish is modest, but they have the main fish. Very fresh salmon sushi, made with brown rather than white rice. The server was quick and offered free green tea as soon as we sat down. It is BYOB, and they seem very relaxed about welcoming people who bring something.

I’ve been going here since the opened. Being a vegetarian I can’t comment on the fish however their veggie rolls are great. They also have an excellent spicy sauce that you can request if you like a little horseradish kick. At the end of the night(maybe an hour or so before closing?) all of their pre-rolled sushi is half off, but FYI in order to get that deal you have to pay cash!

So glad we found this restaurant when visiting Newport. Fresh sushi at a good price.

Decent sushi but not great. I ordered two rolls and it was pretty cheap — under $ 14. Their 9 piece rolls seem to be about the same overall size as a regular 6 piece roll, just cut smaller. It satisfies a craving and it is good value, but I misread the Unilocal ratings as meaning it’s 5-star for the sushi which it definitely is not.

I am not sure what all the hype is about. The place is quiet, yes, and it is self service. And the fish is fresh, but I would not expect anything less, considering how close the ocean is. What I do expect, however, is warm rice, not cold out of the fridge. We ordered three different rolls, and they were mediocre at best! Edamame was O.K., miso soup — meh, tasted better, spicy mayo was excellent, though. It is inexpensive, but overall very disappointing.

I love this little place. It reminds me of being back in New York City for some reason or another. It’s Fresh, quick, and the staff members are always really chipper. I haven’t had a bad experience here. Truth is, I run in and out so fast this is the first time I really thought: ” Hm, I should write a review! «Shame on me! Not only do they have Sushi, they have seaweed salad, and other delightful Japanese goodies. — And yes, for all those Otaku out there, they even have Pocky, and those fruit gummies! I just wish they delivered!

I love this place! It’s small and casual. A huge list of different sushi options. I always go philadelphia roll and a tempura roll. It’s lip smacking good. They prepare the sushi rolls very quickly too. The main guy behind the counter is friendly and never screws up any of our orders(even if we roll in seven people deep!!)

This is my favorite place for sushi! The staff is alway friendly and engaging. I have never had a bad experience here. I have been going here since they opened and now that I work right around the corner, I get it at least once a week. The brown/white rice combination is really tastey and adds a new texture to already great sushi. My person favorite being the yellow tail and scallion roll. I have never had something that wasn’t tastey or of questionable quality. I love this place… especially the end of night 50% off specials!!! Get there early because all the locals know about it and they go quickly!!!

Saw some good reviews of this place on Unilocal and decided to make a point to visit on our recent trip to Newport(read, offseason). We were late for lunch and were the only customers at the time. Other than the 2 staff, we had the place to ourselves. It was clean and quiet. We split 4 rolls(spicy tuna, spicy scallop, pear/tuna and philadelphia) and a water. The scallop roll was a bit shady, the others were just fine. All told, it was a $ 30 lunch. If you are craving sushi, I’d stop in.

Family dinner here complete with our rude and difficult children. Joy. Good thing most of the other patrons thought our daughter’s behavior was more entertaining than disruptive. Husband however looked like he was about to move to another table! But I digress. Order at the counter and grab a drink from the cooler. Unless you want tap water or hot green tea. They bring your food to you. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Everyone approved of everything we ate. We kept it kind of standard with edamame, cold sesame noodles, gyoza, seaweed salad, a California for the kids, salmon and yellowtail nigiri, spicy tuna roll, and in my opinion the star of the meal — fruit roll #2: tuna, avocado, cuke, Asian pear and spicy mayo. Super yum! Rolls each cut into 9 pieces the size of what you usually get in a 6 piece order. So I felt this was great value. Loved the brown rice blend they use. BYOB — since we had the devils, er… angels with us, it was too bad we didn’t realize this. A few beers would have fixed us right up. This is a no frills kind of place, but they didn’t skimp either. Clean, great service and all in all great experience. We’d definitely return. $ 65 delicious sushi dinner for four is a total win in my book!

We liked this spot so much that we ate here twice over the weekend. My boyfriend and I were getting a little tired of the same old touristy food in Newport, and thank goodness for Sushi Go. Even though it’s right in the middle of all of that, this restaurant is unassuming, fresh, friendly and a WAY better value than any of the surrounding restaurants. It’s counter-style service, so you order, pay and then they bring it to you. Or you can buy the pre-made rolls from the case, which are ½ off after 8 p.m. everyday. We ordered fresh, and our bill was around $ 30. The seaweed salad was awesome. We split a few rolls each time(keep an eye on the roll of the day, because it was so good both days). There’s nothing particularly inventive about their regular menu, but everything we got was solid and fresh. They accommodated our small special requests like making plain rolls spicy. They only use their special blend of brown and white rice for the sushi. I was skeptical, but it was totally fine. Also, I should note that their rolls are much bigger than a typical maki. The«small» maki even come with nine pieces. The service was so friendly that we even commented to each other about how crazy-nice they were as we were leaving. The only thing that was even remotely negative is that it wasn’t busy during either time that we were there, but it still took longer than expected before we got our food. We were in no rush, but if you are in a big rush, perhaps stick to the pre-made rolls. They validate parking in the lot too, which is huge in the parking hell that is Newport.

I’ve found a new favorite sushi joint on the island! The sushi is fresh, the chef is friendly and funny and the interior is clean and attractive. I decided to check out the ½ off prepared sushi and it was tasty and CHEAP! $ 6 got me 2 big rolls, and I was stuffed by the time I was done. I have yet to try any specialty rolls, but they sound fantastic and I can’t wait to get back there and try them out! The only issue I have with this place is the lack of parking in the area, but if you are on foot the location couldn’t be better.

Just as a previous Unilocal-er said… this place is a hybrid. Healthy, fresh sushi. Huge selection and the sushi chef is friendly and very accommodating. He made a few custom rolls for us that were perfect! This place only has a few tables to sit at so it’s great for take out. Lots of healthy, organic selections. There’s an adjacent public parking lot that Sushi Go will validate your ticket.

Sushi Go can’t be categorized as anything but a hybrid. It combines the healthy benefits of sushi with the convenience of a fast food joint. Here, you won’t find fatty burgers and greasy fries, nor will you find slow service and exorbant prices. What you get is sub shop efficiency: order your rolls, wait for them to be made, pay at the counter, and grab a table or head out. The atmosphere is relaxed. There’s signs of Japanese influence all around, but it’s subtle and Americanized. There’s enough tables to accommodate for a decent rush, but if said rush occurs, don’t expect your food to be ready quickly. There’s one guy making the rolls, and occasionally another manning the register, but otherwise he has to make the roles and collect payment, which means a bit of switching back and forth. The sushi itself is an interesting product: first of all, the rice is a sticky mix of white and brown rice, which provides more texture and an altered taste. They have 3 types of rolls(with different price points), with the cheapest rolls costing around $ 6 and their mega rolls coming in around $ 14. The fish is fresh, and roll combinations are pleasing to the palette. They also like to experiment with their rolls, inserting fresh fruit for an added complexity of sweetness. Being hungry with an expense account is no good; I always get 3 rolls and a seaweed salad, which totals to $ 30 – 40 including tip. Normal people can get a decent food high for closer to $ 20. In their last hour before closing, they offer 50% off premade sushi and edamame. Get there as close to the top of the hour as you can for a better selection, and bring some cash. That offer’s not valid for credit card purchases. They take credit cards, and have itemized receipts if you want one. Yeah, that’s the business traveler in me.

Sushi Go and I have a long and wonderful history together. Sushi Go is the very restaurant that helped me discover my lifelong love for sushi. Throwback to when I was 15 and still in high school. I was poor and looking for cheap eats, and was very curious about eating sushi. Admittedly, eating rice + seaweed + raw fish is a strange concept when all you’re used to is eating cooked food. The owner, Jefferson, then introduced me to Spicy Ebi Maki(Spicy Shrimp Rolls) and I’ve never looked back since. Of course back then I took full advantage of coming in at 8:00pm for ½ off pre-made sushi and edamame! I think Sushi Go is the perfect sushi restaurant. Jefferson and all workers past and present(Steve) who have worked there are all super friendly, passionate, and love sharing their knowledge of sushi. Their affordable prices are very accessible as well. Many times, traditional sit down sushi restaurants in the states have great entrees but they reach in the $ 20-$ 30 range for a meal. Here, you can easily get a roll combo for under $ 10 and know exactly what you are eating. They are also comfortable with making custom rolls if you can’t find what you want on their menu. I usually ask for the house special when I dine in. I find that they are very experimental, and take liberties such as adding fruit to specialty rolls. Most recently I had the«Yum Roll» rolled with soy paper instead of nori and that was a very pleasant experience! Whether you’re a sushi novice or expert, come by! Sushi Go is my favorite sushi restaurant for 8 years and counting!

Unlike the locals that know about their late night 50% sushi deal, we arrived a bit late(8:30PM) to be exact on a Monday night. Apparently between 8−9PM, the last hour of closing, they clear out the remaining pre-made sushi they have on hand at 50% off. It doesn’t seem to last very long because we were only half an hour after the start of this special hour and they were well out of discounted sushi. You can still order sushi rolls at normal price from their menu which they claim 9 pc rolls to be «50% larger» than the standard rolls. I thought that was a bit deceiving because when things are supposed to be «50% larger,» you expect the rolls to be quite ginormous. But what they really meant was that they just use 1.5 seaweed wrappers instead of the standard 1 wrapper. I’d say that their rolls are just«standard» size. We had a couple rolls(one was a yellowtail/tuna/avocado & the other was a salmon/avocado mixture) and a 5 pc gyoza order. The gyoza was all right but was a bit overpriced for the $ 4.25 price tag when you consider most their roles are in the $ 6-$ 7 range. Their sushi was pretty fresh and although nothing super special, I did like their white/brown rice combination which gave the rice much more body to it and did not just seem like a mushy bunch of rice. The staff, both the waitress and the sushi maker, were extremely nice and I had a spirited conversation about the difference between New Jersey and Rhode Island housing affordability which I’ll save for another time. This is a perfect place for a quick Newport sushi lunch to go(just as the name describes)!

Awrite!!! A cheap and fresh sushi spot right in downtown Newport! Sushi Go is nestled behind the botiques, about halfway down Goddard row. It’s a smallish shop, with a handful of tables and a sleek, slim, nicely decorated chef’s stand adjacent to the seating area. Tasteful Asian décor and low lighting make it feel welcoming and cozy. The chef was very friendly and personable as he explained the deals; in the last hour the spot is open, they make the remaining fresh sashimi into rolls and sell them at half price, to start fresh each day. Private parking lot customers in the back end of the Panera/Coldwater Creek lot. Everything is reasonably priced, and my spicy tuna roll was fab-o. Specials rotate. Will absolutely be my go-to sushi fix in Newport. Closes relatively early, so make sure you check the hours.
