I’m use to much larger thrift stores with room to wander and sort through a large selection of items. This was our first thrift store experience in Newport and hoping that there are bigger and better shops to satisfy our love for weekly perusing. Unlike a previous review, everyone here was very pleasant to us. And of course, the store supports a worthy cause.

All proceeds from this store go to the no-kill animal shelter, to people who trap and neuter strays and feral animals, and to elderly people who cannot afford the care of their animals. This shop get a lot of donations and in that regard, it’s a good place to find stuff. It also is a better place to donate than some others where only a portion of the proceeds goes to a charitable cause. If you’re donating, the donation center is outside the store. Staff won’t help you unload unless you call the day before. And they stop taking donations a half hour before the store closes. I would get there an hour before just to make sure. They do not make exceptions! The location can be a bit tricky to find, especially for non-locals. It’s behind a chain-link fence on 3rd Street. If you’re coming from 101, turn east on 2nd and go to the end of the road. Turn left and then an immediate right on 3rd. The high school will be on your left. After the school, you’ll see a parking lot and beyond that a gate in the chain-link fence with a «Pick of the Litter» sandwich board. Turn in there and drive to the end(it may not look like a driveway but it is).

This store is staffed by the most inconsiderate jackasses I have ever come across. I ran across a number of items that had been previously stolen from me when my apartment was burglarized… I knew the items were mine because I had chiseled my name in them… Store staff told me if I wanted my items back, I would have to buy them just like anyone else, even though they were mine and had been stolen from me! Do not shop here, not even if your life depends on it!
