My family has consistently brought me to Mo’s for nearly 15 years now. During this time, I have experienced a decrease in food quality. Today, Mo’s is a decent place to eat, but it isn’t what it used to be. Every time I eat at Mo’s, I get their clam chowder and garlic cheese bread. Unfortunately, both are now a bit bland. In the past, I remember their garlic cheese bread being loaded with garlic flavor. Now, you can hardly taste the garlic. Similarly, the last clam chowder I had was somewhat flavorless. Don’t get me wrong — the food here isn’t horrible, but it isn’t spectacular either. It currently sits just a step above mediocre.

We’ve been coming here as a family for nearly 30 years. Week-long vacations, long weekends and quick overnights up and down the coast — Mo’s is always our first stop. The garlic cheese bread is good. The chowder is good. The shrimp stuffed avocado is good. I can’t comment on anything else, because I never stray from my usual order. This is not a fancy place to grab a bite. It’s casual and fits in with the neighborhood. A little run down, old, but plenty of charm. Service is good, but they are always busy, you might have to wait a few minutes to put in your order. I look forward to my next visit!

The Oysters are delicious! And just a great place to watch the fisherman. I enjoyed the service at Mo’s. The artwork on the walls makes this place really fascinating explanation of Newport’s past.

Surprised by the bad reviews. We really liked the food! Great service, good seafood. View of the water and they were able to accommodate our group of 12 right away.

World famous is a stretch to describe the chowder here. The view was great, but the chowder was underwhelming to say the least. If only I had read precious reviews prior to sitting down and checking in. While the chowder wasn’t the best I have had it wasn’t the worst, but I do appreciate the fact that it is a local staple of the Oregon Coast. I would try to go to the original Mo’s across the street next time.

First time in Newport and this restaurant was recommended. After our long drive I was really looking forward to some really good seafood. Was really disappointed to see that this site didn’t even offer something simple as fish and chips(no fryer). Their chowder which they’re known for lacked taste and what taste it had was right in line with lard. Waste of perfectly good vacation money.

It was ok. I wasn’t expecting much though because I am well aware that Mo’s is a far cry from the best seafood on the Oregon coast… they have just somehow done a good job making tourists believe that. I had an Alaskan cod sandwich, which was pretty good… loved their tartar sauce, maybe it’s homemade? Fish was served on a very soft, buttery croissant — like bun… it was tasty but I prefer this type of sandwich on something chewier. The biggest thing that I just don’t get is this… what in the hell is up with this«chowder»? It’s POTATOSOUP, people. I did see what appeared to be clams in it, but there was ZERO clam flavor. Tons of potatoes. I don’t mind a few potatoes in my chowder but come on. Tourists, please… go elsewhere if you want chowder, and you won’t wait in line as long. Chowder bowl at Nye beach is good, or Ocean Bleu seafood on bayfront.

pretty standard seafood place, but the clam chowder was nice. the main restaurant may be better.

It’s so very disappointing when a restaurant approaches its food with the mentality that I experienced at Mo’s Annex. Yes, they are in a great location with a view of the Bay and in the middle of a very touristy area… but that should not be an excuse to serve what I received when dining there. I suspect that the locals know better than to dine here but tourists see the name«Mo’s» which is what I understand to be quite the institution on the Oregon coast and assume the food will be great(as did I). After a very long wait in the cramped entry with little to no communication from a host or hostess to acknowledge the waiting patrons, we were finally seated. We were craving shrimp salad and crab salad sandwiches and saw them on the menu posted outside and chose this restaurant without consulting Unilocal(which was a big mistake). The clam chowder was very bland and devoid of clams. What I received was really just«potato» chowder. It didn’t even have a clam flavor and was very disappointing after having stellar chowder at a place over in the Nye District. I ordered the slider trio(shrimp, tuna and crab salad). The shrimp and tuna salad were average… but the crab was beyond disgusting. It was NOT the fresh crab that you might picture in your head when you are dining in the crab capital of Oregon… no, it was something that should not be served to anyone anywhere. The«crab» was a mechanically-processed-not-very-fresh-smelling-very-dry-pulp-the-color-of-sawdust-lump-on-a-bun. If you order it you are not going to receive fresh cracked crab that actually looks like crab. You are going to receive Franken-Crab… Dr. Evil would be proud to serve this to his victims before throwing them to the sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads! Mo’s needs to take some pride in what they serve here and not just use this location as a cash-cow due to its location and Mo’s namesake. I will never dine here again unless I see an improvement as evidenced in reviews.

We asked a local where to get a really good bowl of clam chowder. They said definitely Mo’s. It was very noisy and crowded. Service was less than desirable and the chowder tasted like it came from a can. My husband and I had to salt and pepper A LOT just to have a little flavor. The only reason I gave this two stars was because of the view. You sit right on the bay front overlooking the water. We watched fishing boats as well as sea lions come in and out if the harbor.

If you want the original Mo’s food. Meaning anything deep fried do not go to this location. All they have is a grill. After a 20 min. Wait we were told we had to go to the other location. There is no signs that say they do not have a frier, you must ask. We did not eat there so there is not a rating for food.

We had a coupon from the Newport city webpage. We tried the clam chowder and the marionberry cobbler. The food was great and so was the service. The waterfront view of the bridge and the boats from the restaurant is awesome. Glad I chose the annex instead of the original because of the view.

The chowder was just ok. Not what I was expecting from all the hype. But the seafood sauté and steamed clams was so sooo good. The service was fast even though they were very busy. The view of the bay was really nice too.

NOT like the Mo’s in Florence. The service was slow, and the food not so good. Firstly, the difference between this Mo vs. the opposite street is that this doesn’t have a deep fryer. Secondly, the food is so so and the service is terrible. We ordered cod burgers, and hamburgers. The hamburgers are bad. Thin, 1 cm thick frozen patties. The cod burger did not arrive until AFTER we finished the horrible hamburgers.

We were really looking forward to some good chowder, but it was really, really disappointing. Also, my husband ordered charbroiled fish and it arrived grilled. I tried fish tacos for the first time and it had the blandest fish ever. Really not good at all. We won’t be visiting the Annex again. As for the ambiance, there was a screaming child that no one did anything about. I mean literally screaming!!! Not sure what the parents were thinking… or even if they were thinking.

The chowder was pretty good but I wouldn’t go back. It took about 15 minutes for our server to come by. Another server brought 5 out of 6 drinks. Then the original server never came back. No drink refills. No check to see if you need anything else. It took about 25 minutes for the chowder which is hard to explain. The fish tacos were ok at best and they came with a salsa that I’m pretty sure was pace picante sauce and surely came out of a Cisco gallon jug. The salad was mediocre but the place sure was loud. Top that off with a long wait to pay the bill and a lot of smoke pouring out of the kitchen because«everyone ordered cheeseburgers» and we couldn’t wait to leave.

Spent my childhood visiting Oregon from Kansas. Never missed a trip to Mo’s each time. Still just as delicious 25 years later.

Mo’s, the restaurant that is synonymous with the Oregon Coast. I had fond memories of their chowder. Had. Please for the love of god, whatever has changed over the years, change it back! If you want chowder sogood you want to slap yo momma, there are other places! Get off the boardwalk by the stanky fish processing plant and go to a restaurant that starts with Geor…‘s!

Everyone loves the clam chowder but I don’t like sea food. My whole family loves it and when we are in town they must get some. You can take it to go and it is great to re-heat. They menu is great for lunch and dinner. If you don’t like seafood there is plenty on the menu. Food is served hot and fast. . This Mo’s has a view of the bay. The charter boats come in and dock below the restaurant. You can see them clean the fish and crabs. It’s a very nice view; they just don’t have every many window seats. Mo’s is an Oregon Coast must; don’t knock it if you have eaten there. Also the main restaurant is across the street with a bigger menu but no view.

As if Mo’s couldn’t get any weirder… This place is an «Annex», meaning that their menu is half of the regular menu. Why this place exists is beyond me, as there’s a real one just down the street. Not that the one down the street is going to be any better, but whatever. I never actually ate here. We walked in, sat down, looked at the menu, then at eachother, and then walked out. Why would you cut a shitty menu in half? And why were there so many people here? Ugh.
