Traveling over the mountains on I-40 East between Knoxville to Asheville, I needed to recharge with something small to eat and drink. As I was approaching Exit 440, I spotted«Strange Brew» on the blue motorist service sign for«Food» and thought to myself, a bar and grill with plenty of booze referring to the«Strange Brew» of Downtown Manchester, NH, which is a popular bar offering the largest beer selection in NH and a solid pub menu. –Woohoo!!! I exited the Interstate and made 2 quick right turns and pulled into Cosmic Ties/Strange Brew, which is a quiet little coffeehouse/hippie style gift shop, Strange Brew as in «brewed coffee», not«brewed beer.» This is just what I needed! I entered the coffeehouse and I looked over the Cosmic Menu which is posted on the arched ceiling offering fair trade and organic coffee drinks, exotic drinks(chai, lattes, mochas), smoothies, shakes, baked goods, bagels & cream cheese, sandwiches, and wraps. The fresh brewed coffee is supplied from Bongo Java Roasting Co. of Nashville. The friendly owner answered my questions about the food and suggested I try the hummus since it was homemade. There’s seating inside at the counter and out on the front porch. Free wi-fi is offered too! I ordered a Large Coffee and went with the Veggie Wrap with Hummus, which was made to order with care. While the wrap was being made, I took a browse around the Cosmic Ties gift shop in the adjacent room which offers plenty of colorful tie dye shirts, hemp apparel, handmade jewelry, local artwork, decorations, and other gifts. My «Cosmic» Coffee was very good with a nice smooth taste and good strength to help me refresh. The good sized Veggie Wrap was pretty good, which had crunchy lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and plenty chunky hummus in an organic wrap with a bit of a dry texture. Overall, this was a very cool stop for coffee and food.
