The exterior part of the original building harkens back to a time when government buildings were beautiful and less utilitarian. The metal detectors one must pass through immediately upon walking inside, however, dismiss all feelings of nostalgia. Nice guards though, I can’t even imagine how many times they are asked where a specific group is located. Staff behind the counter are friendly and usually fast. Parking around the area is metered and I wouldn’t risk not paying even though Newport is typically lax in ticketing expired meters. One thing that was interesting that I noticed inside the front entrance is a list of properties that were up for auction. One might be able to snag a sweet deal on a house. Whether you are renewing your license, paying a ticket, or just admiring the old building, CCC should be a somewhat pleasant experience.

Lovely, historic building built in 1883. Now contains the county clerk’s office and circuit courts. History says that Campbell County first named Alexandria as county seats, but Newport residents were upset. An agreement was made in which the two towns would share the county seat roles. Alexandria got the administrative offices and Newport got the fiscal court and judicial buildings.
