Original Pizza

I’ve been coming here for years and for the most part the pizza hasn’t really changed until my last visit. Not sure if the place is under new management or the cook for the day was unexperienced but the pizza was mediocre at best. The cheese and the curst was completely different. Hopefully they’re not just cutting down on quality ingredients to save money but the crust tasted the same as frozen pizza crust. Usually the cheese has much more substance and hard to pull apart but it also lacked a lot of flavor. Hopefully it was a bad day for the place, which I’ve never had or maybe all good things do come to an end. If it’s the same the next time I go back then that will be last and I’ll have to look for a new pizza place.

Great pizza and the people are the best! They are the friendliest place I have been to in years. Best customer service ever! Will be back every time I visit Newport Beach.

My daughter and I decided to try this place just after 4 on a weekday afternoon. We ordered a small pizza and a pitcher of soda and found a spot in the small, almost full dining area. After waiting 25 minutes and seeing people who came in after us get their food I decided to go up and ask about our order. The girl at the counter said that they had just put it in the oven and it would be another 10 – 15 minutes before it was ready. After venting my frustration that other people after us had received their order, the girl then asked a co-​worker what happened and the 2 of them started arguing amongst themselves and I walked away without getting an answer. We then decided that we didn’t want to wait, and risk getting a ticket for our soon to be expired meter where we parked at least a 5 minute walk from the restaurant. I asked for my money for the pizza only back, since we had drank most of the soda by now and they complied and apologized. I was especially frustrated at the fact that I had used the atm in the restaurant, because they took cash only, and had to pay a fee and also paid to park and use the meter while eating, and never got our food. Such a waste of time and extra money paid to not even get a simple order.

We walked in to empty restaurant and the girl at the counter told us it was cash only then turned away clearly expecting us to leave then when we stayed she turned back and but never asked for our order so we just told her anyways. Medium pepperoni. She paused for around 10 seconds then seemed to wake up and then finally asked for our order. Medium pepperoni. She seemed annoyed for some reason then got our order. The older man making the pizzas popped in and out twice and then he finally asked for our order and put it in after a few minutes. Then waiting there they both disappeared leaving us alone in the store for long periods of time until another family walked in and got worse treatment from the girl who struggled to accept their coupon and took 5 – 10 minutes to even complete their order. Nice family, spoke to them while we waited. Finally after around 20 – 25 minutes from placing our order I saw the man finally return to the front and make then put the other families order in the oven and shockingly notice our pizza in their which he took out. Completely black and charred. Surprised I thought he’d come make mention of it and make things right. Instead almost five minutes later he called to us saying the pizza was burnt and he was sorry and he put another one in. My wife asked for a refund from the girl and she said sorry I don’t make the pizzas it’s not my fault to which my wife mentioned that wasn’t okay to have us wait that long and then expect us to wait even longer with no guarantee they’ll get it right this time. She went back to deliberate with the man (her manager apparently) the man of the other family expressed he thought it appeared they weren’t going to do anything about it. After another couple minutes though she came back with our money exact change returned for the price of the pizza (not the drinks though, nor an offer to refill for free). Another few minutes passed our expecting to get the pizza soon and then the man finally actually came to our table to ask if we expected to get the pizza after the refund. We said of course we did. He said he wouldn’t give us the pizza so we kindly expressed our disdain and left. The other family told us how stupid they thought that was and said sorry and we rode of looking for somewhere else to eat. A very terrible experience in customer service. Now we’re eating at BJ’s over in Huntington Beach, great service and amazing food.

Worst customer service I have EVER received. They burnt our pizza we were there for over 40 minutes, then asked for a refund and told us hope you don’t still expect your pizza. And said they we only waited 10 minutes. A joke.

Pizza was nothing special. I like soft crust, which they don’t have, only hard thin crust, but I understand that’s a very much preferential option. We ordered the Meat Lovers and White Chicken Special. Both were VERY light on toppings. Half of the white chicken slices didn’t have any chicken at all, and since that’s the only topping on the pizza, that’s pretty weak! Kind of a rip off for $ 25. A service was not fast, but it was busy, and they use an old fashion pizza oven, which is cool.

We ended up ordering 2 pizzas from here, because it was close to lunchtime, and we were hanging out at the beach. Customer service is Meh… the place smells meh… and its a short walking distance from where we were. The pizza presentation is a 10, the taste and the texture… not so much… the crust was so thin, it kept breaking on us when we were trying to eat it. Hard feat to handle when you are sitting on top of sand, and worried it will fall out of your hands. It was ok… Kinda pricey tho…$ 35 for a large pizza and a small one… Maybe i’ll be back… Maybe…

Been here a few times, never greeted with a smile. Or even greeted at all. Had to wait for the girls to finish arguing amongst each other to order. Ordered a pizza and antipasto salad. Pizza is good, a little burnt on the bottom, but I can live with that. They are very generous with the cheese on the salad. I found out that was because the lettuce was old and brown. Couple next to us ordered same salad and had fresh lettuce. Maybe they were regulars. Maybe they fit the Newport look. I don’t know, but my money is just as green and will be spent elsewhere.

The pizza looked better than it tasted. It was okay but I could’ve gone to 7 eleven & bought a slice from them & it would’ve made no difference. It would’ve actually been better. The pizza crust & bottom was pretty burnt & left a charred residue on hands & plates. Also, when I called in to place the order for pick up I was hung up on the first time. Only reason I called back was out of convenience. Had it not been such a short walk away I would’ve gone elsewhere. Next time I will.

Workers are so horrible and gave me a burnt pizza and i asked if I could get another one and I was just ignored and was told they can’t give me another. They need to hire mature workers here. I work at a restaurant in the casino and we don’t treat our customers like crap and give them crappy food. And theyre are just so busy lounging around in the front and talking just like typical teenagers. So I ended up wasting my money and threw it in the trash in front of them and told them it was garbage and need to have better customer service.

Pizza is pretty good. The by the slice lunch special is a good deal but it ends at 4pm. This place is cash only. The service is also poor due to the workers attitudes. They weren’t directly rude but they just look annoyed to be here which gives off a bad vibe.

Delicious! Pizza was made fresh and tasted wonderful. Great customer service too which is always a plus!

Me and my boyfriend have passed this little parlor a couple of times and we finally got to try it– we were definitely excited!
My boyfriend loved the pizza and the crust; he was a fan of the slight burnt taste that the crust had… «It tasted authentic» LOL. However, I wasn’t a big fan of the burnt taste, so I did not enjoy it as much.
This place is cash only, decent prices, has a small menu, and young adults working… I’m guessing it is family own?
4 stars for the pizza and authenticity; but I personally like happier, more welcoming service.

Favorite pizza down at the beach! Great salad dressings and delicious cheese. Close to the pier, surrounded by parking and lots of tables. Employed with some teenagers who can be a little flat and sassy sometime but in my opinion the food makes up for it.

Ordered cheese pizza… it was okay nothing special. Workers were kind of rude, no hello how are u just give me your money with a straight face kind of vibe. Pizza was super greasy but it is pizza i guess. Ordered a medium cheese for 16 bucks. Wouldn’t suggest this place if ur looking for some really good pizza.

My wife and I have been coming here for 20 years. It was the only place you could still get traditional NY pizza (I think the owner was from Boston) thin crispy crust and spicy sauce. Unfortunately the pizza has changed. Past few years it’s been a disappointment. Don’t know why but I really don’t need to drive all the way down here anymore for this pizza it’s just OK now

oh man, this is insanely good and simple pizza. we have called it «pizza blob» for many years, and we just love this pizza. it is sooooo tasty and amorphous, thus the nickname of blob. Love this pizza.
cash only though. and i really only like the cheese pizza.

Recently visited Original Pizza because Laventina’s was closed (insert sad emoji here). This place was not bad, however for $ 22 on a large pizza I was expecting a lot more. The service was average and the place was super tiny inside. I probably came on the worst day to try this place (4^th of July) and totally understand they were in over their heads with drunk patrons, crazy business, etc. But their pizza was very sloppy. Like they almost had the pizza concept right but failed. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and it came out within 20 minutes, which isn’t bad considering the amount of people that filled the place. The sauce was sub-​par, there were barely any pepperonis on the pizza, and every time I ate the pizza, all of the cheese and «toppings» would fall off. Probably will not re-​visit unless I am starving.

We wanted a good pizza and a place to sit. My Veggie pizza had a nice thin crust. fresh vegetables and it was so huge!
My friends had a cheese small and a pepperoni/​mushroom small. None of us could finish it.
The location is small, but clean and the drinks were great. Beer available if you’d like.
I’d love to come back and try the salad and other items… maybe. :)

We live about 2 hours North of Newport but it’s our favorite place to visit. I like to try the places around Balboa peninsula and what not, but I almost never can because I’m always going back to Original Pizza. Whenever we come we always get a pie no matter what and usually try to bring some home. Our favorite is a white pie with pepperoni.
My husband is from NJ/​NY area and I spent about 5 years living there, we both agree this pizza is the only pizza in CA to hold a candle to a east coast slice! The staff is always super friendly & they always accommodate us (& sometimes our little tiny doge hen we bring him)!
