We’ve been coming to this location for generations– back in the 70s when it was Tale of the Whale and amazing. It was a real treat with friendly staff and great views complete with sea lions on the deck. And fish and chips that were awesome. But… Not so much any more. Mediocre service, food, view. Considering that, the price of the meal should reflect a lunch at long John silvers — not Spago.

The best part of NHYC is by far the view – can’t beat eating dinner while the sun is setting. The food itself is decent, but the service is always excellent. And of course, the cappuccino ice cream is always amazing!

Five star everything! They are a real class act here ! The food prices at the club are actually very reasonable and affordable. The club employees are very nice and very helpful.

We are members of a reciprocal yacht club and stopped by for dinner. Service was slow and apathetic. My entrée salad was small and my husbands steak entrée was bland and tough. Entrees did not include soup or salad. The bar was very loud and it appeared that many guests were overserved. View was nice but it did not live up to the reputation we had heard.

My partner and I went to Newport Harbor Yacht Club for lunch while you’re visiting Newport Beach, and overall, it had some good views, but the service left something to be desired. This is a private club, so our friend leaving a guest pass at the reception was the only way we’re able to eat lunch here. That sort of limits who can go here, which is kind of the point. We sat down right along the water, and but we had to wait a good while for anyone to really notice us. That’s kind of frustrating when servers are running past you but don’t acknowledge you. Eventually, someone came around, and we ordered lunch. They are known for their mai tais, and the one I ordered was extremely strong. Extremely. The menu is not very expansive. Their lettuce wrap appetizers was somewhat healthy, but messy. But they did have a good assortment of salads. My partner’s carne asada taco salad was delicious, as was my crabcake salad. The entrées definitely were the standout. Overall, this place has good views and good food. Obviously the atmosphere is very clubby, and I noticed they were selling vineyard vines ties in the lobby for $ 99. That pretty much tells you all you to know.
