The clam chowder tastes like Manhattan chowder but colored like new England chowder. The burritos was good, you can customize your own

This place is now called Cote D’Azure. We came to eat here because Sliding Door Café across the street was closed and we were all starving. We had a bunch of kids with us and so just settled on eating here. The menu is confused with a bit of everything thrown in. Our party ordered an array of things… The kids ordered waffles, BLT, a croissant. The bacon was weird, very dry, like it was cooked beforehand in the oven. It was crispy but dry. Same goes for the bacon on the Main Breakfast. Portion wise this was a great deal for $ 8. The breakfast burrito was very small in size and you can pick your fillings. They give you a sheet of paper and you circle what you want in it. My steak and veggies was a mediocre piece of underseasoned meat which sufficed because I wanted something non-carby, but for $ 15, it was dismal. I felt they catered to the tourist crowd who don’t know any better and see this café which looks decent and go inside. It is a welcoming café, but the food is blah!

Good location, boring food, appproached by «ex drug addicts» asking for money to support them in their home while I was eating… wtf? Never going back

What a disaster. I will tell you the pros and cons of this place. Pros– Great location(next to the beach) Cute outside/inside area Cons– *Service– Our waitress spilled water on a girl we were with, spilled papers on myself, made another girl in our group re-write her burrito order because she lost it. I deducted 2 stars for all of this because of poor customer service. We barely got an apology. I work in the food service and event industry… and i feel that common courtesy is very important. The guest is always right andi believe we should have definitely received at least one meal comped for all of these mistakes. *Unorganized *Took a long time for food to come out The food was ok, but nothing to brag about. I will not be back.

Craig R(below) said it best. Everything was good except the food. That and the dirty plateware. Had the waffles(GF) and the rib eye and eggs(me). Ribeye and eggs was bland, the meat was about 50% fat(not marbled fat, just bad cut of meat fat) and the eggs were ‘scrambled’ which meant totally cooked through until it resembles a dry omelette. Hash browns were fine. The waffles were half of one of those do-it yourself waffle maker type things. The ‘fruit’ was 90% banana. When I agreed to more coffee, they brought another cup rather than refilling the one I already had(weird). The cup they brought was pre-loaded with a nice lipstick kiss around the rim. It wasn’t a stain– i could wipe it off with my thumb. Staff was very nice(sorry guys), and location was good as well.

This place was horrible. I was starving so I ate most of my steak salad, but my wife took 1 look at her sandwich and decided to go for a walk while I ate. Prime location. Truly a shame that it isn’t being operated by folks who know what they’re doing.

Horrible food for the most part. Some items were not bad. But I wouldn’t eat here again nor would I recommend this place to anyone. Half Waffle: Good with fresh fruit. Fish & Chips: Nasty. The breading was oily, heavy, and completely encased the wet piece of fish. The texture was so one note. Asian Chicken Salad: Ok. I liked the cashews and raisins and the chicken was marinated. But I didn’t ask for chicken. The dressing was terrible and straight sesame oil. Lobster Tail: Rubbery, overcooked and bad. The rice was soggy. The asparagus was overcooked. Clams & Mussels: Ok. The clams were super gritty but the mussels were tender and not bad. The sauce was not a sauce at all, but straight water sitting at the base of the dish. The drawn butter on the side made up for it. Beef and Shrimp Kebab: Terrible. Everything was over cooked. T-Bone Steak: I didn’t try it but my friend said it wasn’t bad because he was starving. Tea: I liked the tea pot and cups. The server was good about continuously refilling it. Tourist trap!

The place was an Orange Julius when I was growing up and several failed places over the last few years and this place may be on the same path, because the concept seems off. limited food choices restaurant looks nice but then offers smoothies– that must be where the big margins are. I had a cobb salad and O skipped the dressing because it was a vinegarette… not my favorite experience. go to the mexican place next door if you have to eat in this area– or rubys on the pier for a more generic experience.

The location is wonderful. Nice place to sit, talk and people watch. Not the greatest place to eat. Service is really bad. Five of us went after paddle boarding. I think the prices are a little high for what you get. I order a BLT that only came out with mustard on it and two strips of bacon with a small piece of lettuce and a little tomato slice. The others in the group food was pretty much the same. Unfortunately after we ordered we saw a BJ pizza just a little up the block. I think the owners must be from Europe or China because we all order iced tea or water that came to the table with a max of two ice cubes in two of the drinks and none in the others. This will teach me for not Unilocaling a new place before we try it… Don

Convenience is about the only thing this place has going for it. Overpriced. & Poor quality of ingredients. I had the breakfast burrito. The sausage looks like the pre-cooked frozen stuff. The hashbrowns in the burrito look like frozen hashbrowns or tater-tots. They forgot my bell-peppers, which would usually be no big deal, but combined with the over-pricedness & frozen hashbrowns, it was a no win situation. The espresso was absolutely awful tasting, but after complaining about my burrito & getting a cold reception, I just didn’t bother. I wouldn’t have minded that higher prices if the quality of the food reflected those prices. I mean, no fresh potatoes? Even I HOP grates potatoes for hb! I would have been better off getting something in NOC or getting coffee at Mc Donalds. EVen if the food was terrible, the service coulda been more customer friendly. Can’t get a refund on the time wasted here, but hopefully our experience will be helpful to others.

Typical beach café. Tri-tip and eggs is a winner. Expect high prices(when compared to Denny’s/IHOP/Norm’s) and smaller portions. Also expect great people watching and ocean breezes. Yup, typical beach café… ***Restroom is located way, way, way, in the rear of the restaurant***

It was another weekend hanging in Newport and we had time to kill before our 2pm whale watching excursion(we missed our noon boat again, oops!). We circled around the area and decided on this place since it looked like it had the most buzz. –Very good lattes, especially if you like them thick and creamy! –Sandwiches: the guy hands out a sheet of paper and you circle your bread and topping preferences. The sandwiches were generous in size, but it didn’t include any sides. We had to order a side of onion rings but it was worth the extra few dollars. –Ambiance was nice on an covered outdoor patio; perfect for those really hot days you don’t want to eat in the sun. –Random patio fireplace. –Service was quick. –Prices were more than reasonable. The only thing I was bummed about is they ran out of the roast beef by noon that I was really looking forward to trying. Next time I’m in the area, I suppose.

I walked for a cup of latte for an hour, and ITWASSOGOOD! It was also a very neat and pleasant place; granted I was the ONLY customer, it felt really big and spacious :)

I’m resolved to try more brunch places. Who doesn’t like breakfast food? Miaafe has a huge menu that runs all day and has the cutest outdoor patio to boot. If you order the omelette, they give you a half-sheet of paper with the ingredients so you can choose exactly what you want. They’ve got a choice of different meats(sausage, bacon, etc.) and a whole bunch of other veggies and such. Being a fatgirl, I just made one huge circle… and they were just fine with that(+1!). It comes with a generous helping of avocado, salsa, orange slices, and some toast. We also got the waffle, which comes with kiwis, strawberries, banana, and a dollop of whipped cream. Not bad. The boys ordered the tri-tip with eggs, and I gotta say this one was a bit disappointing given all the rave reviews about the tri-tip. The pastrami sandwich was a bit dry as well. Things came out kinda slowly and one at a time, and I had the feeling the poor woman who was waiting the tables was making them one by one… maybe I’m wrong. All in all, a cute little place where you can enjoy the sun and a view of Balboa island. I’m guessing it used to be another café because their menu cover says«Cote d’Azure?» No matter. The food was what we needed and the price was right. Can’t get pickier than that.

I went here the other day with for a brunch by the beach and I immediately thought this was the cutest place. The seating is outdoor/indoor with open air windows, a cute little fire place, and little chairs and tables sprawled around. They have amazing choices of food and their smoothies are literally to die for. My boyfriend got a mixed berry? smoothie and drank it all before we even got our food! Also, their tri-tip anything(plate, salad, egg, breakfast, whatever) is amazing. The meat is tender and cooked perfectly and their dressings were amazing. Also, their fruit bowl was fresh and tasty. I have to say this place was a good choice and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have breakfast in balboa. The only negative thing — the service is minimal and slow. When we went there, there was only one asian lady who was serving, i think cooking, and ringing people up at the coffee bar. She does her best to get around but really, expect to wait for her to help you. The food however took 2 minutes to make and get out which was convenient, but still, we sat there for a long time.

— Locale destination — In the center of tourist area in Newport Beach. Open air seating. Simple décor and chilled ambiance. — Gluttony expedition — Blueberry smoothie: It’s big. It contains more milk than ordinary smoothie, which I don’t recommend for the people who are lactose intolerant like me ;(Taste was not bad. It was a bit too soupy for me. I prefer more solid smoothie like«Jamba Juice». *All the fruit smoothies are $ 5 and kinda big. Frozen ice cream: They have whole fruit ice cream and small sets of cheese cakes, I believe. They might worth trying ;) — Conqueror’s deduction — 3.5 stars. Good location and ambiance. Frozen desserts might worth trying ;)

Went here again over the weekend with the parents and bf. I wish this place was closer so I could go every weekend. It’s so relaxing with its big open patio. The four of us got the Salmon, Korean BBQ, King Crab leg + Korean BBQ special, and the omelet. I was surprised with the omelet ordering process — The waiter gave me a paper and told me to circle the things I wanted on my omelet. I asked How many things I can circle and he said«Whatever you want.» Really? wow. You can have 12 things on it if you want. I got tomatoes, onions, ham, mushrooms, bell peppers, avocado, and cheese. No extra charge for anything! BF got the king crab leg… and it was HUGE. The single crab leg was half a pound. What’s the best part about it all? the bill was around $ 45 for us all. We were very full and satisfied. Final thing — The couple that run’s this café is so cute! I think the waiter is their son too. Such a cute little family café. :)

BESTATMOSPHERE. air breezing through. no windows. selection of hot teas for $ 5. you get a pot of tea and get endless hot water poured when your tea starts running out. GREATSERVICE and SOWORTHIT! i shared the tea with a friend and we gulped it down(as fast as you can gulp down HOTT tea), several times. it comes in the double layered glass so its clear and cool to touch. this place is clean and the chairs are SOOOCOMFORTABLE. especially the single couches. o yes. and LOTS of plugs to plug your laptop in. i come here to get a break from irvine and to study. its pretty quiet and the lack of wi-fi helps to study, cause really you don’t need it. my secret study spot/unwinding place! andd you can walk to balboa pier/candy store down the street(REALLYREALLYCLOSE) and take more breaks! only downsidezz: there was no wi-fi. and gotta pay for parking. meters!

Let’s all give a standing ovation to a place that fully comprehends there is no need to charge an exorbitant fee for breakfast. Please hold for applause. They serve breakfast all day(plus), they have this sheet where you just circle the items you would like in your omelet(double plus), no extra charge for egg whites or avocado, so I think it came to about $ 8(triple plus), the omelet comes with your choice of bread(quadruple plus), the omelet is super delicious and they don’t skimp on any of the ingredients(quintuple plus). Now, say you are interested in having a sandwich as opposed to an omelet. Just substitute the above scenario for a sandwich(although I must say that the sandwich tasted just like a sandwich, nothing special). The cute little couple that owns the café are so friendly and their customer service is top notch. The patio is inside, however large, open windows give the impression that you are outside with the fresh breeze hitting your skin(and they have outlets)! If you are just having coffee, they prefer that you order from the counter(you can still sit at their tables), but if you are eating, they will bring everything to you.
