I love the new owners! This place has been here since I was a little kid I think I heard something like 60 years and is now owned by Newport Beach locals. It’s not cheap because the rent isn’t very cheap and probably 90% of their business are tourists and day trippers like I am these days(from Irvine). But they do a really good job, the store is always clean and the most important thing is the customer service is excellent.

Good selection of sodas and they are listed as a UPS access point. Which means I should be able to drop of a pre-paid labeled package? Well, mostly, that’s true. I was told they only have the service for paying customers one time? Wtf? I’m not gonna buy something just cause I need to drop off my package. I live just down the street. Jeez. And then I was told by a woman who works there that she couldn’t take my package cause her boss said not to do so. Something about the secondary usps part of my label that has nothing to do with it. The owner has personally has taken my packages time and time again. I honestly don’t know what to say…

Thank God for Fry’s! Beer, change for parking and the guy behind the register was friendly and knowledgeable.

Fry’s just changed ownership! I’m very excited that the new owners are Newport locals and graduates of NHHS. This store is truly a Newport landmark, even my father has fond memories of this place when he was a boy. Just read a review regarding the change machines people use for parking meters, the city didn’t calibrate the parking meters correctly and I was told when I called that they would fix the problem. The same situation happened to me last week as well. I understand the charge, they’re a business and they prob get asked for quarters all day long. I’m sure they can’t keep $ 200 a day in quarters available all the time, it’s a great idea that they put in the change machine. My friends kids love when they get $ 1 coins from their Aunt too. Keep up the good work Fry’s. Can’t wait to see what awesome new things you have in store

If you are a tourist, do not go to this place. This place might be good for local residents, but they scam the tourists without mercy. When we got to Newport Beach around mid-day, I realized all the parking meter requires physical coins(there is actually an app to pay for parking, but didn’t realize that until after). I went into Fry’s buying some water and asking the owner if he can break a few dollars for change. He said he can’t do that. He then pointed me to a change machine at the back. However, the change machine only accepts 5 dollar bills and the service charge was 1 dollar! 20% service charge! It was borderline highway robbery. I didn’t really have any choice since they are the only store around the area, so I took the hit. Instead of quarters, the change machine spits out dollar coins, which, guess what, the parking meters do not accept. The owner didn’t mentioned any of this to me even I am pretty positive that he knows fully of my intention of acquiring changes. Nothing. Just stood there and probably laughing inside about how another dumb tourist has fallen into his scamming traps. In fact, I met up another guy on the beach later, he also shared that he got gouged for 10 dollars due to the same scam. Do not go this place if you are a tourist. The owner of this store has no honor nor integrity.

I can’t put zero? I walked 4 blocks because it said they had a change machine. Didn’t work. They wouldn’t give me any change at the register. Slowest woman on the planet at register too.

Awesome market! Excellent customer service and they have a lot of surfboard wax that’s extra sticky.

They have organic drink and snack options! They have a change machine for the parking meters. It’s on the corner of 15th and Balboa.

Love this little market! They have a little bit of everything. When you go to the beach for a few days and forget stuff at home frys is the place to pick it up. They also have a nice selection of beer. The owner is very nice as well.

Live right down the street. Friendly faces and they don’t sell the same crap you buy at 7⁄11. You can buy quality beer/wine/and snacks. It is pricey, but so is everything convenient.

First time I ever went here was Saturday. I rode my bike in the morning from my aunts place to pick up some colas. The owner was a total jerk to some girls outside his store. The girl was actually putting up with his attitude. I felt so bad for her, and turned around and left instead of even buying anything from his market. I know it’s a local place, and my aunt had nothing but nice things to say about the owner. But I guess I can say I saw his true colors. Not pretty.

This place has a decent selection of beer and food. The first time I went there the service was good and I got a nice locally produced wheat beer. When I decided to return, there was a younger guy working behind the counter and he gave me a real hard time about my I.D. This included bending my ID(is that really necessary?), quizing me on it, and asking to see my girlfirends ID(again, is that necessary?). After he was satisfied we payed for our stuff and left, but it was a major annoyance because we were in a rush to be somewhere. I understand that a buisness needs to be diligent about checking IDs but that went beyond what was necessary. Next time I will skip the hassle and go somewhere else.

They have a wide selection of beer, not just your typical Corona/Bud/Miller, they’ve got Hoegaarden, not something I typically see at little shops like this. I’m not sure if they did this because it was Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, but we went in as a group of 3 and they asked for ALL of our IDs, even though boyfriend was the one buying. So beware underagers and ones who don’t have their wallets with them!

Oh Fry’s you’re always there for me when I run out of Cola or Beer. Just a quick 2 min bike ride from my home. Only down fall, you close so early, 9pm.boo. However you were open on 4th of July and you’re a way closer bike ride then Albertson’s.

I’ll try not to be biased, since this is my neighborhood market. They have a comparable selection of beer and liquor to that of the major grocers, and are competitively priced to my surprise on many items. They even sell a couple of fresh produce items, such as avocados, onions, and limes, just in case you have a sudden guacamole emergency(you know who you are!!). The staff has always been laid back and cool, just what you would expect of a seaside market. The miniature lifeguard stand above the doorway on the exterior is a little beacon of hope when you’re on a beer run. This isn’t McDonald’s, but«I’m lovin it!!»
