Hands down best burger in town. It’s a true dive bar, stiff drinks, sometimes a rough crowd but you can’t beat 7 bucks for a burger this good

Got the comment it was a great local place for many years. Well not having been a local until a few years ago I carried no fond memories of this place and that’s probably why I say… Bad, bad, bad. More room behind the bar than in front, looks like hadn’t been cleaned in decades, bathrooms smell really bad, only a few places to sit, many of the customers match the environment. Was going to try one of the burgers as their rep was good for burgers but the cleanliness factor changed our minds. Went right across the street to El Ranchito instead. Definitely a dive bar so if you want to experience what a dive bar is then certainly come here.

I come here for the Patty Melts… but had to introduce a special friend of ours who knows a thing about Cheeseburgers, Chips, and Pepsi… to a special place in the OC…

Great place if you like laid back divey bars. The bartenders were actually two of the friendliest bartenders I’ve encountered, especially Eugene.(Sp?). Such a nice guy and made the best tasting drinks I’ve had. We’ll definitely go back for the personal service alone!

Drinks are stiff, food is good, and it has a classic dive bar atmosphere. Only gripe is the tight walkway in the middle of the bar

5 stars for this dive bar in Newport Beach! Visited here from Milwaukee and this place outdoes any dive bar back home(and there are a lot in MKE). Stiffest drinks on the peninsula and a solid option for anyone looking for a good time/cheap drinks.

Fun times. Always good times here, crowd outside wasn’t too bad, food was really good. Cheeseburgers there were delicious, also gotta try their hot dogs. Liquor is liquor, people serving it were great.

I’ve been coming to Cassidys on and off since 1998 :-) It’s a staple dive bar on the peninsula in Newport Beach… good food… GREAT burgers… stiff drinks and the staff has been there forever. There are lots of TV screens if you like the sports(tee hee!) and they have a couple of pool tables and a good juke box. Strong local presence. If a big local game is on, they will turn off the juke box so you can hear the commentary, which I think is pretty sweet. Check it out if you haven’t already!

I went into Cassidy’s, looking for a good burger. I found it. The burger I had was absolutely outstanding. Nothing special, just a big half pound patty with American cheese and all the typical fixings. But it was absolutely delicious. I also had 2 bud lights, and a bag of potato chips. This is a dive bar, and a great place to get some lunch. It isn’t anything more. The bartenders were busy, but seemed competent. I was in and out in under 45 minutes, for less than 15 bucks for everything. I really cannot complain.

A friend of mine who used to be local was apparently nostalgic about Cassidy’s when she invited me here. Maybe it was cool when she was in college? Ew. I was grossed out the minute I walked in. Not only by the disgusting leering of biker-type, wasted guys, but by the way my too-cool for this place leopard heels were sticking to the floor. Oh god. I knew I was in for a treat when she told me to «cover my crotch» when using the women’s bathroom, which has toilets that sit lower than the stall doors. Oh, and speaking of the bathroom. It’s filthy, graffiti-ed and smells like pee. I drank my beer and got out of there. Never. Again. The fact that this place serves food is incredibly concerning. EW!!!

Now this is the ultimate dive bar. Bikers & bums to CEO’s. Located on an island on Newport Blvd. between 26th and 27th streets, if you get drunk enough you can go next door and get a tattoo. Absolutely the best hamburger in Newport Beach! Best to come for lunch. Gets pretty rowdy in the evening.

Seriously a locals dive bar. Came here for a friend of a friend’s birthday. There’s only one door in and out. On a Saturday night packed top to bottom like sardines in a can. I have no idea how this place isn’t deemed a fire hazard. I literally touched dozens of strangers to get from the entrance to the back table where the group was. They have few pool tables that were packed the entire night. Good luck getting a drink on a packed night. Will take at least 10 minutes, unless you know somebody already good with the one or two bartenders. Drinks are reasonably priced. I couldn’t even find this place initially because there’s no lighted sign, just what looks like graffiti scrawled on one side of the wall. Two stars because of nice staff and no bathroom line. The bathroom is as filthy as you’d expect. A girl in front of me with questionable sobriety was trapped inside a stall. As I helped her out, she told me she had crawled on the floor to get in. Have you ever seen the floor of a dive bar? That is perseverance right there. Pros? It is really close to a public parking lot.

It’s a dive bar, they only have domestic beer mostly and a few mexican, no craft. Staff is nice. Burgers are supposed to be good. I had a patty melt it was not bad but a bit burnt. Place gets loud and crazy at time. They have full liquor.

Gotta Give It 5 StarZ for the Burger, Bar Staff and Security. I lived In Newport for 7 Plus years and this was one of my favorite stops on any night. I Miss Cassidy’s…

Leave it up to Dan H to acquaint me with the divey side of Newport Beach. It’s nice to know that places like this still exist within its bleached, plastic-surgeried confines. Hailing from Long Beach I can appreciate a good dive bar and this is certainly one of them. Chill, no frills, great prices on drinks with surprisingly good burgers(thanks for the hot tip, Aaron L!). There is some crazy«magic sauce» that elevates these burgers into greatness. Anyhoo, a great stop during our Newport Beach Biking Dive crawl.

I decided to come here after seeing an article on Thrillist about the 33 best burgers in America. Located at the Balboa Peninsula, this bar was very divey. I was pretty surprised a great burger would come out of this place. There was a hockey game on and the bar was filled. I slipped in ordered the ½ pound cheeseburger with everything on. The burger is very basic with no frills. Toasted bun, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, pickles, ½ pound patty, and cheese. Who needs ketchup when it is served with their Cassidy’s Sauce which is a peppery not so hot sauce. It has a great peppery taste that complements the burger. The toasted bun was just right. Simple and pretty tasty. I have to say ‘I’m a fan!’ The burger will set you back $ 7.50. Best burger in America? If it were, this would be a 5-star review. Best in the Newport/Balboa area? Probably until I have something better. Overall solid no-frills burger.
