It made perfect sense that Netflix would bring Bluth’s Banana Stand to Newport Beach the day of the 20th Annual Balboa Island Parade. I just didn’t know that at the time so we ended up parking in a neighborhood about a mile away from the Balboa Island bridge and walking across. Amidst the throngs of Balboa Island and Newport denizens, a lone banana stand took up shop next to the fire department and a small line formed to take photos, grab Mr. Manager stickers and get our very own authentic Bluth’s Banana Stand Frozen bananas! You could tell that the residents and parade watchers had NOIDEA what the Bluth Banana Stand was, politely tapping me on the arm and saying, «are you waiting INLINE for frozen bananas? They sell them all around here.» We would smile and say, «they are giving them out for free in honor of Arrested Development» and the look of puzzlement would cross their faces and they would nod and walk away. The very people that the show is satirizing are the ones that didn’t know what hit them! I waited a paltry 10 minutes in line to take photos and get my banana — an original covered in peanuts. My fiancé and my friend Andy T. decided to get bananas with sprinkles and we happily ate them as we walked back to the car. Looks like we beat the crowd because once the parade ended, we heard the line was over an hour wait and they ran out of bananas! It was such a fun one-time event and I’m so glad that Netflix decided to bring the Blut Banana Stand home. «There’s always money in the Banana Stand!»

I’ve lived in OC(I know, don’t call it that) for eight years, but I had never made it to Bluth’s Banana Stand. I decided to check it out on a day when my wife was away. It just so happened that today was the Balboa Island Parade. I’ve never seen it so crowded. I’m surprised that the island didn’t sink. Fortunately, I had parked(semi-legally) at Promontory Point and walked over. Don’t try coming here during the parade! The line was 100 people long when I arrived. They were actually giving the frozen bananas away! Interestingly, they seemed to be cross-promoting a show called«Arrested Development». Someone in the crowd said that they thought that it was«like a little sitcom», but I have it on good authority that it’s a reality show about the famous Bluth family of Newport Beach. I could have sworn that I saw Lucille Bluth in the crowd, but I always think that I see her whenever I’m in Newport Beach, or in the Trader Joe’s in Costa Mesa for that matter. Does anyone know if the show is on Netflix?

My friends and I have eagerly been awaiting an appearance by the Bluth’s Banana Stand in OC, so much that I signed a petition online and told people to sign it too. I mean, it took place in «Newport Beach» right? It needed to come to us. Well we were in luck and its last stop was here on Balboa Island! My friends and I arrived early which was good because Balboa Island was having their 20th Anniversary parade & celebration. It is a pain getting off the island after this. Anyhow, the line wasn’t too long when we got there. We got Mr. Manager stickers and then free frozen bananas! Banana Man took our picture and then we enjoyed the tasty frozen bananas. Loved seeing the stand and all the fans. Fun times!

Brittany P and I braved the wild and chaotic traffic through all the looky-loos wait to take part in the 20th annual Balboa Island Parade. We struggled to find a place to(safely) park and trudged through the thousands of unwashed masses to make it to our final destination… The Arrested Development Bluth’s Banana Stand! Being giant fans of the show, we had to immortalize out involvement and fandom with some photos. As an added bonus we got«Mr. Manager» Netflix stickers and«genuine» Bluth Frozen Banana treats! Well done Netflix. Thanks for bringing the banana stand and this little part of the show to Orange County…
