A diner that knows its a Connecticut classic and makes sure it stays that way. The food is always hot, portions are big, the wait staff is friendly, and I’ve yet to have a poor experience here.

This is a very old diner that keeps the classic look– besides, it has been in business for almost 60 yrs. Typical diner w/diner food, great service. I am a little sad that I got a rice pudding to go, and it was only a teaspoon serving size in the to-go cup once I got home. Besides that, this place is spot on and a classic.

We haven’t been back since I posted that review, but decided to give it another try since it’s the closest eatery to home. I ordered soup and a salad and decaf; hubby ordered soup and a grinder. The waitress asked if we wanted our soup and food together, and we said yes. A few minutes later, I got my salad and hubby got his grinder. No soup. Never saw our waitress again. Half an hour later, a different waitress asked if we were all set. I told her we hadn’t gotten our soups. She apologized, and stated«the other waitress never told her we ordered soup.» She brought it out promptly. Salad was fresh, soup was ordinary with salt as the main seasoning. We won’t be back soon.

Ordered a patty melt with fries and coleslaw. Excellent food and service as always, but I will never understand why a side of coleslaw is basically one bite. Makes no sense.

I stopped here for breakfast a couple of weeks ago while in the area. I like diners and this one is the real old authentic style diner, in pretty great shape. I was seated quickly and service throughout my visit was consistently good, though a little slow. I was there on a Sunday morning so quick service wasn’t important, but it might have annoyed my if I had been on my way to work. The food is basic diner food — nothing really stands out, but is all good(at least what I ordered). Prices seemed high but so did my previous day’s breakfast at a local IHOP, so the Olympia’s prices might be in line with the area.

Me and hubs were looking for Saturday morning breakfast. He remembered seeing the airstream looking building so he suggested we go here. At first glance we were skeptical. But we were extremely happy with our experience here! I got the French Revolution(French toast, topped with a cream cheese mixture, strawberries, and whipped cream. I also got a side of ham which was perfectly grilled and a side of French fries for us to share(strange for breakfast I know.) He got corned beef hash, over easy eggs, home fries and toast. Everything was freshly prepared and perfectly cooked(the eggs a true over easy) he was even impressed that even his toast was warm and buttery. They served the full menu all day and all of the other entrees looked really good. Service was very fast and friendly. Way better than IHOP where you wait for an eternity and all of your components are never all hot. Will be back again.

So came here for a weekday breakfast and was struck by three things: 1) Great service 2) Cute décor 3) Lick the plate delicious breakfast. This is not a gourmet place. But sometimes you just want bacon & eggs with home fries. And this did all three of them well. Prices could be a little cheaper but it was solid and worth the visit when you want a decent diner breakfast.

Having grown up in the area and still living close by — the Olympia Diner has been a standard on the Berlin Turnpike for as long as I can remember. Know that when you dine here you are not going to get anything fancy but what you will get is a plate of comfort food from the pages of their fairly manageable menu. All the diner staples are here but I usually come here for the breakfast — omelettes(customizeable) that come with homefries and toast, are always great whether it be for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night. Most recently I arrived for a late lunch but felt like breakfast — no problem at Olympia Diner, breakfast is served all day. I ended up ordering a veggie egg white omelette, with dry rye and in a last minute substitution was able to sub a side of tomatoes and cucumbers for the home fries. The waitress could not have been nicer and seemed to have been working there for a while as she took our orders and handled her other customers with ease. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying their meal regardless of their order. My dining partner was in the mood for a more traditional lunch — another reason as to what makes Olympia Diner great — the ability of each diner to get what they are in the mood for — allowing each diner to «have it their way». The décor is definitely not current(and in some places shows its age) but I think that is what lends to its charm. Yes — there are cheaper options on the Berlin Turnpike but where else are you going to find a working cigarette machine converted to sell gum or working juke boxes on the tables. It’s these little blasts from the past and some solid comfort food that keeps me coming back.

Had dinner here with my husband tonight. Though I enjoyed my eggs Benedict, my husband was very disappointed with his stuffed cabbage that was filled with much too much rice and not much hamburger. He says he would never order it again. Wait staff was pleasant enough but I was never asked if I wanted more coffee. Breakfasts are good, but dinners leave a lot to be desired.

Olympia Diner: Berlin Turnpike staple. Pffffft.keep driving. Called in and ordered the Olympian, which was placed online on allmenus for 10.25. Showed up, picked up food charged $ 14.25. When I asked the cashier, he said prices hangs every 6 months. Offered nothing for the confusion. Food is ok, but I’ll never go back here. Prices are out of control.

After getting home in the wee hours of the morning the night before, there is nothing more than I wanted then some comfort food. Olympia fills that need. So, we headed over on a Saturday afternoon around 2 to grab some sustenance. At times when they arent so busy, you are allowed to seat yourself so we walked in and picked a cozy booth by the window at the end of the dining room. Jukeboxes(that still work) are available in every booth. $ 1 gets you a couple plays so bring your quarters if that’s your fancy. All hail 90’s music! One of the reasons why we like it here so much is the dependability of the waitresses. No new faces, always friendly and accomodating and they keep you happy. I like it. I ordered the Cream of Broccoli soup and a Ham and Cheese club. Lovey got a Chef salad. After a few minutes, our food came and it was so good. Hit the spot. The soup was yummy on all counts. Piping hot, loaded with broccoli, serving size was huge for $ 3. The club sandwich was everything it should be. Crispy, loaded with lettuce and tomato, ham and swiss cheese. Fries needed salt desperately however, I would rather salt them myself then send them back for coughing on too much of it. Chef salad was HUGE. Served on a lengthy, oblong dish my boyfriend had no problem digging in. He loved it. All the meat was fresh, all the veggies were crisp and beautiful. And served with plenty of dressing so no running out! We ate lunch with 2 drinks for about $ 25 before tip. I love the consistency of the Olympia. One of the better choices on Berlin Turnpike. Stop in if you haven’t. Reasonably priced, amazing breakfast(served all day) and plenty of seating in the back of the restaurant as well. Parking can be tricky if you are pulling in from Berlin Turnpike. Your best bet would be to access the restaurant from the side street.

Place needs an upgrade. Food is mediocre, as expected. You’re lucky if the waitress smiles at you here, and the omelettes are too small for their prices.

Though it may seem like a typical diner, it holds a hidden gem. Their corned beef hash was unbelievably great, it’s freshly made and tastes it. It has that balanced taste without being greasy or overly powerful in salt. If you come, come for the hash.

I eat out every weekday for breakfast. I usually order an egg white cheese omelet with onions and tomatoes. And this is what I did at this diner. The food was good, Service just OK. My only complaint was that the cost for this breakfast was about $ 2.00 more then what I paid for breakfasts at other local restaurants. Plenty of free parking. Good location on highway. Will I go back? Maybe but I prefer other local restaurants. However, they are usually busy so many people must like eating here. TRAVELKAL

It was midday on friday during the holiday season and it was empty. Service to be seated was fast and welcoming. Coffee came out fast upon request and hot. Tasteful. Keep in mind these positive remarks are based on diner standards. Lol. So add, «for a diner the((blank)) was((positive or negative remark here)).» I ordered the Philly steak omelette. Came out fairly fast. Only bad thing to say is that they forgot the cheese but it still tasted pretty awesome. Homefries? Goood. Toast? Nice and warm. Parking is amble. Restrooms? Very Clean. Overall cleanliness? Really Good. Customer service interaction was pleasant. Nice guy. Made us warm and fuzzy. Lol.

Sorry Folks, can’t like every restaurant. Went here one morning with family for breakfast. Food was honest diner food. Went here one evening with family for dinner. Food was terrible. The turkey used in their Hot Open Turkey Sandwich was literally 4 slices of the worst turkey roll imaginable. Another person’s Chicken Parmesan was made with frozen pre-made breaded chicken patties. Better to be simple and selective then have a menu filled with items that are sub-par. Will not be headed back that way, anytime soon.

We found this place driving from PA to Boston. We wanted something local and the gas station guy pointed us here. Classic old school diner from the movies. We came in at a slow time after lunch, maybe 2 or 3 o’clock. We ordered the daily special, cabbage rolls. We got two the size of coke cans, with a huge pile of mash potatoes and gravy for under $ 10, maybe $ 7.95? The food was great and the atmosphere even better. I wish we had time to try more or get dessert. Since things were slow we got to listen to the banter among the employees and chat a bit. Very friendly crew. This is definitely a place to try and a place we’ll come back to.

The ambiance is very easy and welcoming. You feel nice entering this place. You can seat yourself any where, we came in for b’fast on Sunday. The waitress are friendly and nice. I ordered for the Olympian, which is 3 eggs with corn beef hash, a toast and 2 pancakes. I substituted the pancakes with the French toast. Boy that was quiet some food. LOVED the hash. Definitely one of the best that I’ve ever had. I’ve never been a fan of fries and didn’t like it here too. This place is definitely a MUST come back to place :) oh the coffee is good too :)
