Growing up eating Indian food everyday, I am a HUGE critic when it comes to other Indian restaurants. This place has great food, very friendly environment, the prices are affordable. I got a platter so that meant 2 sides, rice, salad, and half a naan, came out to about 9 bucks including a drink with my student discount. They give you a lot of food so there are always left overs for me. The staff was friendly and really thorough in explaining their selections. Only sad thing is that they close at 5:30 but that’s common in the area so you get use to it. I had the daal muhkne(not sure if thats how you spell it??) and the chicken 65 and both were delicious. The flavors were just right, not too spicy, not too salty, The chicken 65 did have a bit sweet side to it but it complimented the daal and rice really well. I have only been here once but I will definitely be back!

Went here for lunch with some friends and the food was amazing. The staff is very patient, as one of my friends was not familiar with cuisine and they took the time to explain everything to her with a busy lunch crowd.

Food — Solid Indian flavors with just the right spice/heat for me(heat, but not sweating or burning). They have a great variety of lunch options — wraps(kati roll), over rice, over salad, and platters — to keep things interesting. Services/Atmosphere — The place looks new, tidy and clean with a decent number of seats to eat in. The staff is friendly and patient with explaining the varieties of offerings. The prep area and kitchen appear clean too. One thing though, the temperature of the hot food is not always hot(more just a bit warm) and the biryani sometimes is dry.

the palak paneer and chole were good but really need to work on matar aalloo. the matar were semi cooked and give the options of rice or roti some people might just prefer the naan instead of so much of rice

I’ve made Spice n Grill a lunch-treat destination since I first walked by it last Tuesday – and saw the Butter Chicken(my favorite!) as the«chicken of the day.» Had a yummy, warm lunch there today, featuring chicken tikka masala.(The chicken of the day was ginger chicken.) Wonderful homestyle cooking that tasted as good as it looked and smelled. The naan is fantastic – perfect for scooping up extra sauce! The masala chai at the end of the meal on a chilly day tops it off perfectly.

So glad to have great Indian food in downtown Newark. The staff is very friendly and happy to guide you toward or away from dishes that will set your mouth on fire depending on your preference. A little pricier than most lunch options in the area but the quality is better too so I’d say it’s worth it.

For my first time here I was pretty impressed because the ambiance, cleanliness, and service was spot on. Ambiance was very nice, the music was set at a volume where my friend and I were able to have a normal conversation without screaming over our food. And it was clean and comfortable. Mind you they just opened 2÷23÷15. The service was great… they help out a lot of customers on what to choose… kept hearing on line«it’s my first time here, what should I get». So I ordered the combo platter: Veggie — Palak Paneer which is a thick curry sauce based in puréed spinach and cottage cheese cubes(my favorite Indian dish) Meat — Chicken Tikka Masala is a dish of roasted chunks of chicken in a spicy sauce(but it wasn’t spicy to me… but I love spicy) And the combo came with Rice(yellow or white), naan(fresh) and a salad(you can pick 2 items — I chose seasoned chick peas, diced cucumbers and they were nice enough to give me diced tomatoes) It was delicious! They give you enough rice(I had yellow) and I couldn’t finish it but everything else was gone. Very tasty! I definitely will go back. The combo platter with a can of soda is $ 10.19. They have postcards that if you present it it gives you a free can, plus if you have a college ID you get 10% off your order. So enjoy!
