Last night in town and I’m starving! I go in for a late lunch and see guys filling up the bar some sort of soccer/football match has everyone captivated. I really had to put my limited spanish to use(I understand 75% more then I speak) but figured it was much better to gut the Spanish then try to comprehend the little English was being given. Lady later tells me I resembled her niece who she hadn’t seen in years.) I order the red snapper and veggies and watch the family order each other about — friendly group of people. Immediately I’m served a basket of rolls and a rum and coke with lime. Less then ½ way down my glass I hiccup like Pinocchio. Drinks are strong but nice and neat. There were two groups celebrating birthdays or some other big occasion. But I was the only girl at the bar. Several times the women come and check on me and then linger around having conversations. It’s pretty neat that when you travel alone as a chick you have more people that seem to worry about your care. Plate was HUGE. I received grilled Spanish style snapper with potatoes, green veggies and green olives. Very tasty well seasoned fillet(I rather grilled or poached with bones) but I wasn’t sure how to say that. Though fish was great veggies were without any seasoning or salt plenty of sauce with the fish so that was fine. Bar backs plug a few songs in the digital jukebox while servers clear out tables from a birthday party and start making way for dance floor and dj. Average age was probably 40 on the dance floor. Lots of reggaeton, bachata, and Mexican/Latin pop. I dance a little and go back to the bar hoping to get something sweet while partner fallows and orders a drink. Only dessert option was flan — it was okay but I’ve had much better. Sweet man covered my meal and drink so all in all a great time out and I’d definitely go out again.

Went on a Friday night after work with a coworker to celebrate a friends birthday. It sure seemed far from Queens with all the construction and traffic, but once we got there all was forgotten. Plenty of parking and a nice man watching over your car, no charge just a tip. It was $ 10.00 to go in and the place was huge. The drinks were inexpensive and the food was Good. More couples than singles so I didn’t dance much. What brought back nice memories was that the men walk you back to the table and the floor is cleared for the next dance and group of people. Reminds me of when I went dancing with my mom. Anyway they had a band and DJ, so what else can you ask for, for $ 10.00. $ 10.00 well spent!

Live latin music which puts this place high on my list of places to go dancing. They play all types of music including salsa, cumbia, bachata, merengue, reggaton, and pop. Women are free and $ 5 cover for men(I hate covers). Drinks range are $ 7 for shota, mix drinks are $ 10. This is rather pricey for the area hence the lower rating, cover fee + high priced drinks dont mix well in my book. The crowd is an older crowd but very lively. The servers are very cheerful as are the entertainers. They serve food night and you can call to reserve a table, friends say the food is very good, their menu is online. The layout is a dance floor near the stage surrounded by many dining tables and two full bars. Not the best ambiance but the music makes up for all. Definitely come here for to dance, eat, and have good times with friends.

My honey and I loooove us some baila latina. We’ve been working our way around the NJ/NYC latin clubs/clubs that have latin nights for the last 6 months. Since FINDING these damn spots is so difficult I decided to review a few because so few of the Unilocalnation are. grr. This place is in a SUPER sketch area of Newark. But there is a parking lot with an attendant more or less across the street and the poor freezing man will watch your car, which is nice. So…you may ask, why, Leah M, why would you go here to dance when it is mostly populated by people your mother’s age? Well, I would answer, because people my mother’s age know how to to DANCE! And dance without drama. Plus there are plenty of tables so you can drop your coat, sit and have a drink and chill between sets. Drinks are not expensive, cover charge is reasonable, dance area is spacious enough, there is always room to dance. The music is sortof hilarious, but it works. They have singers and live percussion playing over recorded music, so you hear all the hits(mostly merengue, bachata, salsa and cumbia) but also they bring out a dj once in awhile for some reggaeton and pop. So it’s a mix of everything. And everyone clears the dance floor between songs which is weird, maybe this is a cultural thing I am not accustomed to? They serve food, lots of people seem to have bday parties here, and very few whiteys like meself come here. But it’s fun, and since my honey and I have fun wherever we go, this place is a laid back, less expensive option when we wanna dance but cannot summon the energy to do a big fancy spot.

As for the night club on a Sat night $ 10 cover gets you in, decent live band, older crowd, low on eye candy, don’t expect to find a seat anywhere or the bar so call for reservations ahead of time. What was really a strange concept to me was the long lapse between songs and everyone clearing the dance floor, I wondered maybe there was some kind of performance that was going to happen, but then just heard a new song come on and everyone started to form lines to get on the dance floor… me and my room mate could not get over this unusual observation and kind of just laughed every time it happened. Maybe it’s some tradition from the old country but really did not make much sense to us. Anyway, maybe Friday nights are better there, would like to know so I don’t take my chances
