Chill place. Atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. Summer time will be great with the outside patio area. Definitely a top notch place.

Awesome place to relax and forget about the world. The staff is awesome and entertaining. Moreover when you enter that place you don’t feel that you are in Newark anymore. Do try it out.

This place takes you away from the daily hustle and bustle. You can spend 5 hours here and not even notice. It’s so calm and relaxed and such a great vibe. Incredibly crafted cocktails and great cigars. The place has so much personality. I had a drink with the owner, Peter, and he showed me around and explained the whole process of their operation. It was wonderful. Places like this are rare and hard to find and I almost feel grateful that it exists. Can’t say enough good things about it.

Jimenez Tobacco dates back to Cuba circa 1903 founded by the grandparents of current owner Pete Jimenez. His parents 27 years ago opened up this location on Liberty street and his mother is still active and is the master blender. Their tobacco is aged 10 to 15 years and each cigar has it’s own signature blend from mild to medium to full bodied. They carry 23 different types of cigars which are encased in a Spanish cedar style humidor. I was impressed with the flavor and quality of my cigar. The establishment itself has a comfortable Victorian feel and contains two smoking parlors. The first, located in the front entrance, is the smallest of the two and has a basic vintage feel with sofa seating and a cozy fire place. The second room is the largest and is adjoined by a long foyer which connects the two rooms. It is decorated with dark stained oak floors, oak trim and wood tables and chairs in front of a solid fireplace. With classic jazz playing such as Dinah Washington a mood is created of days gone by. On the back wall sits a well stocked bar with a mixologist behind it serving up Brandy, Scotch and some well defined mixed drinks. It’s a cozy place for the true cigar smoker to come and visit.

I have been to many cigar stores and cigar lounges in the last 20 years all over the world, so I can speak from a respectable level of authority when I say that Jimenez Tobacco is a fantastic place to visit if you want to smoke a great hand rolled cigar, have a great drink and enjoy great hospitality. Peter and Armando are always there with a smile, they remember your name and immediately make you feel welcome. Their staff is equally friendly and attentive, and on my first day there I was made to feel like a longtime friend. They have inside seating with good music that is never too loud, and an outside grotto to sit in if you prefer. They have a very well stocked bar and a very knowledgeable bartender named Mark who is more than happy to make you his specialty cocktails or to simply pour you a glass of bourbon if you prefer. Mark isn’t just a soda jerk who will pour you a rum and coke, he has a solid understanding of the blending of fine alcohols and is clearly a savvy mixologist! The atmosphere of the cigar lounge is fantastic. It reminds you of «the old days» with great chairs and sofas to sit on, lots of space for people to gather and talk, and very classy interior decoration. In some ways it reminds me of walking into a picture of a cigar lounge in the 1940s, but if you added good air scrubbers to keep the billows of smoke down. They do a great job of controlling the smoke, which is also important to me. They do have a couple flatscreen TVs, but they aren’t «always on» as I have found in many cigar lounges, so it again promotes conversation with others. They roll their own cigars, and the construction of their product is very good! If you are someone who likes a good solid ash, you won’t be disappointed with the Jimenez line! You can tell that they use higher quality leaves, because higher quality leaves produce a much denser ash, which takes longer to fall off. Why is it important? Because ash length changes the flavor of the cigar. Any producer of premium cigars can make an occasional smooth burning, rich tasting product. But, the truly excellent producer will develop a way to do it every time, or almost every time. In three weeks, I have yet to find one that has not burned smoothly and evenly from start to finish. I have been staying at the Courtyard Marriott on Broad Street, and they are a brief 3 – 5 minute walk from my hotel. I have visited their establishment 3 – 4 times a week in the past three weeks that I have been on assignment in Newark. I will be in Jersey City for work in mid-June, and I will definitely make the trip back to their store. Actually, going forward, even if I go to Manhattan for work, I will make the trip over to visit their store. They are a short walk from Newark Penn Station, and well worth it! It is about 150 yards from the Prudential Center, so you in a safe part of the city. If you are in Newark and you want a great cigar and a great place to smoke it, this is the place to be, my friends! Great drinks! Great people! Great atmosphere! Most importantly — Great cigars!

I was looking to do something different for my birthday. I landed on Jimenez Lounge and it was definitely the perfect choice. To start off the atmosphere of the lounge is one of a kind. It is set to a Victorian style design complete with sage suede sofas, gold trimmed mirrors, and richly patterned fabrics. The service is impeccable. You are greeted by upon entrance by the hostesses who are committed to your needs. The owner, Peter is not only extremely attentive but also engages with all his customers in such a manner you truly feel at home. My friends and I never even had to ask for refills on our glasses. I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back.

It was the middle of February 2014. An ice storm was coming across the tri-state area. My boss and I were flying out of Newark early the next morning to FLL and we were staying in Newark the night before. Even the tram taking us from the terminal to the car rental area was slipping on the tracks. After check-in at the hotel and a great meal in Elizabeth, I Unilocaled cigar bars. Unfamiliar with the area I chose Jimenez Tobacco and Lounge. As we made our way into downtown Newark, we happen to come to the Prudential Center and to the left, a street full of 3-story houses. The first one was Jimenez Tobacco and Lounge. The multi-level house with wrought iron on the windows raised our interest and curiosity to say the least. I looked at my boss as we looked at the front door. Without any verbal communication, we both knew we were in for an adventure! Do you remember the scene in the Wizard of OZ when Dorothy opened the door after crash landing in Oz? Suddenly the black and white images give way to the bright colored and beautiful Land of Oz. This phenomenon happens to me every time I walk through the front door or come in through the botanical gardens in the back of the building. As I pass my one-year anniversary of patronizing this special place, I have changed my traveling routes to stay in Newark as opposed to the New York City area. There is no longer a need to smoke in NYC at expensive, crowded, hard-to-find parking, cigar establishments. As a native New Englander, the reputation of Newark isn’t especially a great one to out-of-towners like me. The routes to downtown are well lit and safe to travel from the Turnpike, Route 21 and the airport area. As an added bonus, I have discovered the Ironbound district just across the tracks… if you want great Portuguese or Brazilian fare, indulge in the many fine choices to suit every budget and taste. Sorry, as I digress… The real stars of Jimenez Tobacco and Lounge is the Jimenez Family. Peter is your host. Unforgettable and a magnet of a personality, Peter will make you feel like family. He will instantly indoctrinate you into the colorful cast of characters… politicians, lawyers, doctors, businessmen, white collar, blue collar, locals and me, a traveling peddler of the finest all natural cat litter in the world. Now onto cigars and libations. There is only one brand here: the Jimenez label. I assure you, you will find a cigar you will fall in love with. And if Mark is tending bar, you are in for a real special treat. His catalog of pre-prohibition drinks will wow you. Be sure to watch him make your drink, it is a show all in itself. So remember, the next time you are passing through on the Turnpike, staying in the Meadowlands, flying or grounded at Newark International, make sure you stop by for a great local experience that only Jimenez Tobacco and Lounge can provide.

I was really excited to find this place and also amazed to find a cigar lounge in Newark that is essentially a Victorian-styled house. It’s right around the block from the Prudential Center and unlike anything you’ve probably seen in town. The front entrance opens to a small sitting area and display cases where you can grab something to go or sit and watch the TV downstairs. They will cut and light one for you at the counter if you wish or pack them to go. I decided to grab a few cigars and explore upstairs. It’s hard to summarize the atmosphere in Jimenez, but on a cold and windy day it was a welcome oasis. It was quiet and dimly lit, the bartender was preparing his set-up for the evening and they were playing old French jazz standards throughout the rooms. It’s a place where you can sit by a fire and read or have a drink and b.s. with any of the friendly people who stop in. Peter, one of the proprietors, is super nice and accommodating in offering to take your jacket or a light and a scotch with your cigar. I was excited, but apprehensive to review Jimenez because it’s difficult to do it justice, but I suggest stopping in for yourself. I’ve left out a ton of details so as not to ruin the experience, but it’s a diamond in the rough that I recommend to anyone looking for a little leisure in Brick City.

If you are looking for a place to kick back, relax & enjoy a fine cigar & drink look no further than Jimenez Tobacco! The only cigar bar in Newark, they roll quality smokes & serve craft liquors, wine & beer. With two spacious lounge areas with fireplaces & plenty of seating this is a perfect place for a business meeting or a pre-game or concert get together due to its proximity to the Prudential Center! While you are at the Rock visit their stand outside the Fire Lounge & pick up a cigar for later! Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere & you can smoke a cigar while enjoying a fine bourbon(my favorite) scotch or rum! Nuff said!,

Ok ok. With the alcohol comes star #5! The bar area has been prettied up and it’s just as comfy and friendly as ever. Music not too intrusive, Peter still genially holding court, and the barman serves the single malt with a proper side of water. Slainte.

This is a hidden gem in newark that you must check out! This place has all the charm of a 1930s speak easy and has a fully stocked bar to go with their hand rolled cigars that are second to none. They even have a master mixologist making hand made cocktails. Small family run bar that they bend over backwards to make you feel like family. Being a season ticket for devils i always stop in for a drink and a smoke while the traffic clears up after the games. check them out you will not be disappointed I promise.

I came here with 2 friends for an evening smoke and I was very impressed with the atmosphere and the cigar selection which is all rolled in house. Beautiful furniture, dimmed lighting, and a classic elegant cigar bar setting. This is a gentleman’s cigar bar and I would recommend that if you’re in the area to stop by, relax, and enjoy yourself a fresh hand rolled cigar. The owner of this establishment is amazing so you will feel at home. Enjoy.

Jimenez is wonderful little gem tucked away in Newark. I must say that its great to go to a place where you can enjoy a cigar indoors and not outside blowing smoke into your own or other’s eyes. From the outside this place isn’t much. In fact if it wasn’t for the aroma of dark tobacco I may have walked passed it. Its about a block or so from the Prudential Center. However its the inside which makes this place great. On the bottom floor you can actually see them hand rolling thier cigars. He however is not there in the late afternoon. And that’s another plus, the cigars are all in-house. The sellection is wonderful. I was like a mosquito in a nudist colony. I went with a full bodied little number which had great taste. It was a smooth smoke with no tongue bite at all. This place just gets better. The upstairs is the main area in which you choose you’re cigar. Once you make your selection a lovely swarthy beauty clips and lights you up with a torch. There is a small bar with spirits but the place is very open to BYOB and BYO food as well. The décor is amazing. It supposedly is based on old style Cuban cigar lounge but felt very much like a Victorian gentleman’s study! Ash trays and Victorian like seats give it a sense of refinement can panache. I felt very relaxed studying whilst puffing away. The only downfall were two customers engaging in a rather ribalderous conversation but I was able to tune them out.

This place is heaven. A beautiful woman brings out your cigar, cuts it and lights it for you. She’ll also bring glasses, ice and put your remaining drinks into the fridge. Need a relight? No problem! More drinks from the fridge? She’ll gladly get them for you. Sit down with your friends, and you even get control of the remote! Unfortunately the cigar roller leaves at 4pm. I would have loved to watch my cigar rolled in front of me. Fortunately, they have something in store for everyone. I personally went for the double wrap robusto. Not only does the two-tone cigar look beautiful, it also tastes beautiful. Great cigars, great service and BYOB. What a way to spend a relaxing evening!

Great old school Cubano atmoshpere. Smoke shop is downstairs with a small selection of their own cigars. upstairs is a great place to smoke and open a bottle of scotch. Mariana is the hostess upstairs who cuts and torches your cigar. Very hospitable both the owner and the hostess. Will return but will bring a bottle with me this time. Wish they had food. Parking is available.

One of the best kept secrets in Newark! Walking distance(two blocks) from the Prudential Center. This isn’t your typical cigar shop. All cigars are blended and rolled in-house. The Jimenez family has been making cigars for over 100 years, and it shows. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a mild cigar, or a full bodied cigar, Jimenez has a great variety. Regardless if you are new to cigars or a seasoned aficionado; they will give you great advice and recommendations. Cigars burn well, taste great and are competitively priced. Jimenez makes all our corporate and specialty gift cigars, with customized cigar bands. The lounge is open to the public. But being a member does have it’s privileges; from private humidor lockers, discounts and extended hours for special events /parties. There are three lounge areas, a sitting room with a TV on the first floor; the second floor has larger lounge with two televisions and a second room in the back(quite room), that’s great for conducting meetings. The regulars are friendly, always greeting new customers to join them. Currently they are a BYOB; so bring your favorite beverage, they will supply the glasses, ice, etc… During the summer they have a beautiful outside patio, adorned with palm trees, flowers and a seating area. A great place to sit & relax after a long day. Next time you’re in the mood for a cigar, stop by; ask for Peter. Tell him Dennis sent you!

This is a great hidden gem in Newark! From the outside Jimenez does not look like much, but it has a bunch of great hand rolled cigars and a giant lounge area. The cigars are all rolled in house. Make you nervous? Me too. But I swear the cigar I had(Brazilian robusto for $ 12) was delicious. It had a tasty maduro wrapper and had obviously been aged some so that it was a good medium-full smoke. Pretty neat that you can see them rolling cigars when you come in as well. When you enter the cigar shop, you’ll notice that there the cigar lounge looks and feels like a townhouse. The downstairs area has a small smoking lounge and the cigars line the walls on the right of the entrance. Directly outside of the front door there is a small table and a couple of seats. There was a little Hispanic lady that greets me who spoke cigar, but was obviously more comfortable in Spanish. I’m guessing she is one of the owners. Walk up the stairs and there are several areas where you can smoke. A large outdoor lounge, a few TVs, a couple of bars and plenty of seating. The décor is a bit odd, there is a Virgin Mary statue with dollar bills pinned to her and lots of antiques. There is a third level as well, but I’m not sure what is up there or if it is open to the public. The fellow smokers were very friendly. It filled up by 4pm. A minute or two after I came in I ran into a nice gentleman who offered me a scotch in celebration of his birthday. Coincidentally, my birthday was a couple days ago, so we celebrated together. Rule to live by, never turn down free alcohol.
