El Burro is now officially closed! I’m surprised they lasted this long. The chips & salsa were terrible and the margaritas were cheaply made. It’s too bad because the building looked amazing on the outside, just like a Mexican hacienda, but the inside was bad. Looked like it hadn’t been upgraded since the 80’s. Let’s hope they don’t level the building and an upscale Mexican restaurant goes in.

Confession: I travel to visit my parents so that I can eat at El Burro. Everything about this place is wonderful– the atmosphere, the service, the drinks, and the food. The portions are large and piping hot, the drinks are refreshingly icy, the salsa has just the right kick, and the house salad dressing shames every other salad I’m forced to eat without it. The spacious outside dining area is nice to utilize on warm summer evenings and the cozy indoor seating makes every other season an ideal time to enjoy El Burro as well. Stop cheating your taste buds and go now!

I’ve been here three times, over the course of four years, and I’ve been pleased every time. Authentic Mexican food, well prepared. The building itself is huge — I’m not sure what it was when it was built, but they could easily accommodate hundreds of guests in this building. I usually have the fajitas.

I love El burro! I usually always go to the Campbell location, but so nice to know that there was a location around the east bay. I really like the décor, makes you feel like you’re dining in Mexico. They also offer patio outdoor dining. Perfect for summertime! I always get so excited thinking about their top shelf margaritas so of course, I had to get one. On the rocks with salt on the rim. Perfect amount of alcohol. One of those will get you tipsy! As for entrée, it was lunch time but I opted for the dinner entrée. Everytime I dine at El burro, I always get the Chorizo enchiladas! You get two with side of rice and beans. Super huge portions! So delicious and cheesy! Dinner entrees also come with a side salad with choice of house dressing or thousand island. They also provide you chips and salsa. The salsa is so good and has the right amount spiciness! There was only one girl serving the section we were in. But considering that, Service was still great! Our server was very attentive and checked in on us regularly. I’m already craving their top shelf margaritas and chorizo enchiladas again! Must go back soon.

I’ve been coming to El Burro for years and enjoy coming here. It’s always consistently good, service is friendly and fast and the portions of food are huge. I have to admit that the salsa and chips are an addiction. I eat at least one basket each time I visit, sometimes two. I like a lot of the items on the menu, but I really enjoy their Chili Colorado, Enchiladas Montadas and their Chile Verde. For those with a larger appetite, you can get 2 or 3 entrees. You can also order A La Carte if you like as well. I’ll continue to keep coming back. If you want to plan a large party, they can also accommodate that.

El Burro has a very attractive building and nice outdoor seating, but that’s about it. The food is just OK, nothing memorable. I had the Beef Enchilada plate, and I’ve had better. It was very plain, lacking in spices or something. The menu said they’re made with flour tortillas, but it came in corn tortillas, which I really don’t care for. The only thing I really liked were the refried beans. We started off with chips & salsa and the chips were not light and crispy, they were STALE, and the salsa was OK, though it was very mild. Read other reviews and see how many people say the chips are«days old» or «stale». And they seem to be a little uptight here. On the menu it says«no substitutions» and«no split checks». I will not be back.

If I could give you 0 stars I would! Strike 1– no Carne Asada only beef or chicken on every item on the menu Strike 2– Margaritas are made with a cheap wine mix, not actual Tequila, you can not have it made with tequila. It’s $ 8 a cup Strike 3– No Soup! No specialties, or special days that they have it. Positives the place is gorgeous, looks nice and has potential but I will not eat nor recommend it to anyone!
