Holiday Inn Express New York City Times Square

I checked in closer to midnight because my flight to NY was delayed, so it was nice that the front desk lady helped me right away and gave me the breakdown of the accommodations & hotel policy pretty fast. The hallways are pretty narrow and my room was pretty small, but I was staying by myself at this hotel, so it didn’t bother me too much. The bed was nice and comfy, I had a decent sized desk to work on, free wifi, and free breakfast. Loved it.
Two things that bothered me a bit during my stay was:
1. There were only 2 elevators and there were a lot of floors. Most times people are waiting a long time just to use the elevator because I’m sure it’s stopping on a lot of floors. One morning I was in a rush to get bucket my room and pick something up, but one of the elevators was totally out because the bell hop picked up several guests’ luggage. By the time that elevator reached to main floor, it had alot of luggages to get out of the elevator.
2. They gym is not in this hotel. It’s actually next door at the Candlewood Lodge. It’s not a big deal, but I did ask the front desk where the gym was, and she said that it was on the basement level… right below the main level. I tried going down there but my hotel key had a hard time opening it. At the same time, a staff member stopped me and told me that I couldn’t go down there. When I mentioned that I was trying to go to the gym, he walked me over next door, and he had to ask the front desk guy for a gym key. Time consuming right? Blah.
Other than that, the walk to this hotel from Times Square is about 10 – 12 mins. The street right outside is not as lit up as it could be, but there is a restaurant or two that’s open late so as long as I was aware of my surroundings I was good.
I’d consider staying here again if the deal was alot better than the hotel deals that are right in Times Square.

For a small hotel we had a really good time here. The service was excellent from the moment we walked in the door. Super professional and whatever I needed was available immediately. The continental breakfast was small but satisfying. My family always find reasons to be grateful, so if you are a complainer and looking for lots of space and a lavish breakfast, this isn’t for you. The beds were so cozy I fell asleep in minutes. I recommend this hotel and we will stay again when we visit NYC.

Pros: located only a few blocks from time square. if you check in on Unilocal you can be given a free bottle of water. There is free breakfast every morning. Friendly staff.
Cons: Very small room and hallways with dingy lights. Only two elevators with 20+ floors making for a long line in the morning during free breakfast and check out.

Very small rooms very dingy so not worth the money I will not go here I stayed in the room for one night and the next night later I had bites I it was a bedbug bite I went to the hospital and they said it’s a bedbug take it from there very disgusting but I will not stay here if I was you waste of money

Great location in the middle of everything, good deals on rates, breakfast included, valet parking for 55 to 65 dollars, rooms are clean and super comfortable bed. Staff is friendly. Stayed there one night and would stay here again. The hotel is small and has limited amenities but when in NY you have everything in walking distance.

It was alright, I’ve stayed at much better in NYC, and won’t be back to this place.

MY PROPERTY WAS STOLEN BY HOUSE KEEPING
Sadly, I am going to have to report the house keeping services to the Better Business Bureau because whoever serviced my room has stolen my property from my room. This is the first time I’ve ever experienced something like this; not only is this theft but it’s also a terrifying invasion of privacy.
I called 3 hours after checking out, realizing that my belongings have been missing and called frantically and the front desk connected me to the supervisor but they told me nothing was in lost and found and that the house keeping employees have left for the day– she informed me that someone would call me back within 24 hours. No one did. I called back the next day to follow up and I received the same information «nothing was in lost and found but another house keeping supervisor will contact you within the day.» Of course, no one called. Today I left a message with one of their general managers to see how this situation could be rectified… I will update how they decide to handle this situation…

Stayed here for 9 days, it’s in a convenient location, extremely friendly and helpful staff and the complimentary breakfast is great (be sure to take it to your room, the dining room is tiny and dark and feels like a school cafeteria)
Unfortunately the rooms aren’t great, they are clean which is a plus, but they are tiny! We literally couldn’t fit two suitcases in there. They are also in desperate need of a revamp.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Times Square at the last minute, after the friend I was going to be staying with found bedbugs at his place (yike!). So a late August later afternoon booking here through the IHG app turned up at very reasonable $ 130 a night rate.
The hotel is a few blocks from Times Square in a somewhat seedy street where the garment districts meets Hell’s Kitchen. There are fairly decent bus connections up– and downtown here, as well as a short walk to both the Port Authority Bus station (and subway) and walking is the quickest way to Penn Station (where i left from on Amtrak.)
The hotel shares it’s building with three other hotels, so each get a slim 1/​3d of the building, meaning there are 6 rooms on each floor (3 looking downtown, 3 looking uptown) spread over 36 floors. This mean the fairly slow two elevators are the only access to the lobby.
As an IHG platinum member, i was given a gift bag (in leiu of points) which was a laughably contained a bottled water and a bag of trail mix. Not elegant, but hey, it was free. As a platinum member, i was given a high room with a great view that took in the Empire State Building, the Freedom Tower, and construction on the Hudson Yards and the Hudson beyond.
Staff were unfailingly polite, helpful and everyone greeted me warmly.
The breakfast (included in my rate) was in their «great room», which was a greenhouse style room at the back of the hotel, where there was hot food (omelettes, sausage and biscuits, bacon, and a pancake machine (cool!) as well as cold cereal, fruit, yogurt and cinnamon rolls, along with juice. A very decent spread, tho not gourmet by any means. They had take away carriers and boxes to take your food outside or two your room as well.
There was 24 hour access to juice tea and coffee in lobby and the ice machine has ice and chilled water for free on several floors. A nice touch!
The lobby was small and nondescript, but had a single bathroom, a high table with pop-​up electrical ports, and a few chairs in front, along with the concierge desk and check-​in desk.
The room was predictably small, but had a comfortable king bed, desk, chest of drawers and armiore. The AC was excellent, and the view as i said was spectacular.
One big issue is there are no blackout drapes on the windows, but dummy panels on either side, then a valance across the top, and sheers in the middle (over the AC unit.) This should be addressed with roll-​down blackout shades. One of my nights the moon was so bright, i ended up pulling the dummy curtains up over the window and attaching then with a clothes hanger dress clip.
The bathroom was good side, with good water pressure, and abundant towels and nice bath products.
I was impressed with the hotel overall and would stay there again.

I don’t recall staying ta a Holiday Inn nor equal chains since long time so I really can’t compare. But still, you know what’s a good, worthy hotel and what’s not once you been to. Idk know about the rate cause I was invited to stay but I would confidently say there are better choices around of the same scale if we’re to compare. 3 stars off for: 1) only 2 small elevators serving +40 floors of God knows how many endless small rooms on each. Not just that, 1 of the 2 was most of the time (if really not ever) out of service, so waiting times and people crowding to get in is ridiculous, and since we were in the 33 floor or so it wasn’t an option to use the stairs (we actually tried once as the elevator just stopped at one floor and were actually forced to use the stairs and the stars themselves were confusing with floor numbers!). 2) Very small rooms, even by NYC’s standards, and service was very mediocre «given the amount of load maybe on staff, we always come across repairmen or staff on their way to take care of something». 3) Location: to me I’d never choose anywhere near crazy rubbish filthy Times Square area, nor around this area of town, really boring. The only upside I give credit for was the views «as seen in pics», they were amongst the few best I’ve encountered in hotels in Manhattan. One could easily see the Hudson river, Hoboken, Empire State Building and WTC at all times. Thank you my BFF for the kind invitation;)

Awful! Horrible customer service! I booked a two double bed room and at check in they said I only booked a single double bed. I would never book a single double bed for a family of 4. They two women at the front desk spoke very rude to me. They would not accommodate us whatsoever. I asked to cancel my reservation. They charged me for the 1 night. The rooms are tiny and the elevator takes forever! We are IHG members and usually stay at Holiday Inn Express and have never had a problem. Definitely not a fan of this Holiday Inn. Was able to book a room at Intercontinental 4 blocks away and it was fabulous!

Stayed here for the Fancy Food Show at Javits. Our room had hardly any cold water. Yes, that’s right. The hot water was fine but the cold was a mere trickle which meant the shower was either scalding or so low pressure it was difficult to rinse.
Our room faced 39^th Street and was right above the front entrance way. Extremely bright lights shown up upon the flags and kept our room awash in lights all night long. That wouldn’t have been such an issue if the drapes could be drawn. However, the drapes could not be closed. Not because they weren’t working, but the tracks didn’t come to the center of the window but rather were separated by about 3 or 4 feet.
To make matters were, there’s a late night club just down the street a bit and it got very rowdy at about 4am with loud shouting, cops, and all that. So, not much sleep that night.
Anyway, even though our room was «non-​smoking» it smelled like it used to be a smoking room and they never changed the carpet or something. Not a strong oder but it was there none the less.
Even though this place is much closer to Javits than our usual hotel, we won’t stay here again.

Stayed here for a trade show, the place was super busy! They were very accommodating and had reasonable prices for NYC. This has to be the smallest hotel room I’ve ever experienced, there are 6 total rooms on each floor, and the hallways are barely big enough to get your suitcase down but for the purpose of sleeping it was perfect.

For a hotel called the Express, there was nothing express about the elevators. The breakfast is passable, so pass on it – go eat somewhere great in Manhattan. If you need a place to stay in NYC, there are way worse. Room is tiny, halls are narrow. It’s NYC — you’re not going to stay in your room long, are you?

I recently stayed here for business, and I’m so glad I did. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the room was clean, breakfast was good, and the location was perfect. When I needed a late check-​out, they gave me no problem. When they said it would be 20 minutes until my car arrived, it was 20 minutes. The valet parking system made everything so easy. I’ll definitely stay here again.

Very friendly staff. Clean rooms. Great free breakfast. Excellent location. Hells Kitchen Flea market one block away and Times Square is right around the corner. Would stay again.

It was so nice to visit NYC after about 6 years since my last visit.
First of all, you have to remember that space is a luxury in NYC. So, don’t be surprised to find the hotel, the floor, and your room to be small like a dorm room. There’s practically no room to walk between your beds and the desk, the closet, and drawers.
The bathroom was decent. At least, they didn’t compromise with having a smaller tub/​shower, toilet and sink. The beds were absolutely comfortable as were the pillows. After all day of walking, shopping, dining, and partying, the beds are heavenly.
Oh, if you love air conditioning, you’re gonna love it here. Remember, a small room means a cold room… quickly!
There is a standard continental breakfast provided. You’ll be presented with an array of bagels, bread, cereal, and other traditional breakfast food. The only thing I wasn’t impressed was the bacon. They were more like imitation bacon.
The dining room was also small but functional.
The elevators are slow in the morning. Be prepared to wait a few moments longer. Other than that, they’re in good shape.
This location is perfect. When you come out of the hotel, to your right, there’s a flea market in Hell’s Kitchen. To your left, there are other hotels, clubs, and the beginning of your shopping and dining paradise.
I’ll definitely come back here!

We stayed here over NYE and were happy with our stay. Clearly this is a very busy location, and given the timing the place was packed. Unfortunately there are only two small elevators to service a very tall hotel, so you might be waiting a bit to catch a ride, but the rooms were not as small as expected; they were roomy enough by NYC standards.
The standard complementary breakfast was good, the desk staff are very pleasant and they are helpful in their knowledge of the surrounding area. Rooms are well maintained, and although our heater was a bit wonky, everything about our stay met expectations.

I stayed here during Hurricane Sandy. The room was small but clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful and very accommodating.
The hotel itself does not have a gym but you can use the gyms at the two hotels to the right of it. They are small and dinky however with only the minimal amount of equipment. Maybe a lot of people don’t stay in a hotel and workout but when you are stuck in a hotel during a hurricane, there isn’t much else to do is there? Still, I would recommend that friends stay here because it is centrally located, well-​priced and everyone was so nice.

Value, location, and clean. If those are your priorities — this hotel is for you!
It’s the most narrow hotel I’ve ever seen. Only 6 rooms per floor, 36 floors high. Outside of the slow elevators, it was clean, offered very friendly and nice service… so good value overall.
It’s a basic hotel, with a free breakfast (of which, I didn’t touch — I’m in NY damn it!), no pool, tiny lobby. Rooms are small, but modern, small desk, and decent wifi. It’s comfortable for one, tight for two.
The location is fantastic, just a short few blocks to Times Square, theater district, and all things touristy — and just one block away from the Port Authority if you’re coming by bus from out of town. I’d stay again.
Also special note: they allowed me to check into the hotel at 10am — that was wonderful after taking a red-​eye flight from LA.
