Ordered lamb biriyani, chicken chi kari, dal bhukara, and malai kofta. It may be good to those that haven’t had Indian cuisine before. However, I have high expectations for Indian food and will not be back. The best dish was the daal, but nothing to rave about. I would never order the chicken curry dish again. The curry had a weird smell/flavor. Kofta curry was fine but they need to work on the kofta themselves. Lamb biriyani was presented nicely, but lacked flavor and spice. Perhaps, their cocktails are good? I’m giving it 2 stars to be nice because they present the food well. Most Indian places in CT do not use fancy serving bowls. However, I will choose taste over looks any day.

We loved it. We had Chicken Korma, Malai Kofta, Black Lentils(Dal Makhni), Nan and Vegetarian Samosas, Saffron Basmati rice and Mango Lassis. All were very delicious and hot. It took awhile — at least a half an hour– to get the food, but well worth the wait! The female server was fantastic and polite and cleared the table of dishes. The male server did nothing but take the order and he forgot to bring my daughter’s Coke. Kudos for her — none for him. Otherwise, most definitely will go back. Fabulous Indian food.

The food is hands down, amazing. I am from NYC, so I was concerned when I didnt see an Indian place on every corner like I was used to. The ones I ordered from online were not up to par. Thali is amazing, but I am knocking off a star for their price. My fav dish, shrimp vindaloo, is $ 21. I mean, the quality is great, but that’s rather much than what I am used to, even in NYC. The portion size is great, though. Also, watch the spice!!! I am a spice fanatic and the«very spice» was too much for me.

I find Indian restaurants can be a bit intimidating. Often there are so many choices with names I don’t recognize. Tonight with help from an Indian-American friend, we enjoyed a nice dinner of Indian small plates that was tasty and vegetarian. Gobi Manchurian — Battered cauliflower in a spicy garlic, cilantro sauce. Very tasty with a bit of a kick! Ragda Patties — Potato and cumin served with a chick peas and sauce. Bhel Poori — Puffed rice and lentil noodles beautifully presented in cylindrical form. The version I had at Thali Too had crispier puffed rice, but this is still quite good. Chopped Kutchumber — An Indian version of chopped cucumber salad also served in a mini tower with red onion, tomatoes, chickpeas and a touch of Indian seasoning. We were still a bit hungry, so got another order of the ragda patties. We ordered some raita, a cucumber yogurt sauce, and spooned some on top. I would order that and use it for the above dishes. To fill your meal, you could also get some naan or Indian flatbread, which is delicious. Service at Thali is friendly and efficient and it’s in part of New Haven where you can often find metered street parking(or the lot across the street). One last note, my friend has been to India more than a dozen times and he says that Thali has the best Indian food in Connecticut. So, with that recommendation and this sample order, check out Thali and enjoy!

Yes, it’s pricey. Yes there’s hardly any parking. But my god, the food is so damn good! The last time we were here, we feasted like kings. To start things off the gobi manchurian cauliflower in hot cilantro garlic sauce was perfect crispy yet flavorful. The samosa amchur potatoes and green peas in hand rolled pastry were delicate and super tasty. We also had the raita which was just ok. But my favorites though had to be the navrattan korma cut veggies and lamb vindaloo. Well made, beautifully prepared and downright delicious. We also had several orders of garlic naan and mango lassi of course. Chef Prasad and his team do a fantastic job, do yourself a favor and enjoy some really great Indian!

I was here recently and found the ambience quite good. We ordered an ‘Seven wings’ which was spicy but good. Another item Jaipori kabab was quite salty. And the final nail in the coffin was the special lamb biriyani… which was very salty and full of garam masala. Not edible at all. Quite miserable. I would think twice before going here.

Had a quick dinner here today. Ordered the special goat biriyani. The meat was tough and stringy. When cooked properly, goat is succulent and delicious. Not here. The rice was dry. At least the boiled egg was done right. I’ve had Hyderabadi biriyani(authentic and imitation) and this one didn’t measure up. The essence of a good biriyani is the rice which in this edition was a real letdown. The service was excellent. I was in a bit of hurry and they accommodated my request for a rush order. I could say that the food was sub par because of that but typically biriyani is made in advance and in a large quantity so I doubt my rush order is to blame.

Not as good as Coromandel Darien, but much better than any other Indian food around for miles and miles. I don’t know why there is so much Chinese food on the menu at Thali, it’s confusing and disappointing when all I want is Indian food when I go to an Indian restaurant. Nonetheless, the Indian food was good(would definitely skip appetizers next time). We had aloo gobi(not on menu but they will make for you), chicken tikka masala, paneer sabji jalfreze, naan bread. Chutneys are delicious and the minty one has a nice kick. The waitress was really nice and comped us a tasty mango dessert since she knew we were very disappointed about the appetizers. Will definitely come back to Thali, but will also have to make the trek to Coromandel Orange one of these days(have not tried it yet).

They have really good Indian food here. It’s probably one of the best Asian restaurant around school. The Nann was great, original better than Garlic. One star taken off for a little overpriced. It can be pretty expensive here. Come here if you want to treat yourself with good food and ambiance.

Found this restaurant on Unilocal and the reviewed of the food looked decent. I ordered dinner and the food was very good. The bbq chicken dish was really good and my kids ate it up. It was a bit pricy but I think based on how it’s packaged and tasted wad worth it. What wasn’t up to standards was the delivery. They send some guy that had audacity that while at wrong building suggested I «come outside to get my order» then asks me WHY he should come bring it? unfortunately attitudes like that taint the restaurant because he’s a reflection of them, on the outside.

It’s a clean looking restaurant which is decorated well. The largeness of the space made the restaurant feel a little desolate even though there were at least five other groups of people when we arrived on a Wednesday evening. They brought over popadoms and an array of chutneys including mango, mint and tamarind to start. The appetizer of chicken was good according to my companions, it came out all hot and tender, there was plenty of sweet and sour sauce and the way it was breaded gave the dish some texture. The goat biryani was next, I’m glad to have tried it but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend anyone actually get it. There were 5 pieces of goat, which in fairness tasted amazing but they were mostly bone. The rice was kind of dry, though I suppose they did bring out a peanut sauce and raita to put on top. The saag paneer was by far my most favourite, it smelt divine, it was full of flavour, the paneer to saag ratio was good, the texture was silky and best of all it was decadently made with plenty of ghee and topped with diced tomato. I could eat this thrice over. The service was definitely very friendly and efficient. They were at hand if you needed something but they gave you space too. Our waters were topped off and all our food arrived hot. It would have been nice to have been asked if we wanted dessert before just bringing the check. It’s a little strange how they clean the table between courses with an off white rag, it’s a little awkward and slightly unnecessary. All in all I would come again but perhaps choose different meat dishes.

I found this restaurant on Unilocal and needed to grab dinner before my train left, so I called in my order while sitting in my car in the lot across the street. I ordered the bagar dal(mixed yellow lentils in garlic & cumin), saffron basmati rice, and vegetable samosas, and they told me it would only be 10 – 15 minutes. I killed some time in my car, and then entered the restaurant in the last couple minutes so I could pay and grab my food as soon as it came out. I ended up paying and waiting for much longer than expected. The real time it took to get my food ready was closer to 25 – 30 min, which was more of what I had in mind when I first ordered. I wish they had been able to keep me better informed of delays or to provide me with a more accurate estimate, especially since I had specified that I needed to catch a train. Once I was on the train, I finally got to eat! The samosas were as expected, and the first couple bites of the dal were savory and delicious. But the more I ate, the more overwhelmingly salty it got… to the point where I had trouble finishing the remaining third of my meal. The blend of spices was perfect, but I was really disappointed at how overseasoned this entrée was – the kind where drinking water doesn’t even help. The prices were great, and I had high hopes for the food here. If I’m in the area and it happens to be convenient, I may give this place another try… but right now I’m skeptical. 2.5 stars

After moving up from NYC we were worried that we wouldn’t have the same quality of Indian food available to us. We’ve ordered take out from Thali several times and have been impressed with the quality and consistency of their food(we’ve been disappointed by some of the other Indian joints across town) So far we’ve tried the samosas, tika masala, rogan josh and saag paneer. All great bager Dahl was okay. The foods ready in about 20 minutes and service is polite. I haven’t had the chance to eat in there but it looks neat and clean.

Terrific Sunday brunch. Vegetarians will find a good selection but all I ever need is basmati rice, sag paneer and their Gobi cauliflower– yum. Of course I eat more then that & always have wine. A favorite in New Haven. Did I say they have a full bar? Well they do! And tables aren’t on top of each other. Yeah, I like this place.

Quite good, good price. Let me start by saying this is not economy eating, but for fine dining, lunch is quite economical. For curry on a budget go to Tikkaway. For elegant restaurant curry, come to Thali. I went for lunch, got a small plate, a large plate and naan with tax and tip for $ 25. I took home half of it, I could have gone with a friend and paid the same amount. They serve family style, so each item has its own dish and serving spoon(even at a table for 1), which is a welcome touch. I had Bhel poori, it was interesting, like a salad and cereal mixed together. Sounds odd, but it was like a rainbow of textures, and pretty good. The best though, omg was the«MYMOTHER’S ANDHRACHICKEN». It’s usually a good sign when they say it’s their mom’s, cuz we all know mom doesn’t play, and if it’s not up to her standards, she’ll make you take it off the menu! Medium spicy curry, tomato base with lots of clove and cardamom, unique and excellent.

We went here for«brunch buffet» pretty early on a Sunday. I’m sure if it was because we came so early, but all of the selections seemed just made — which was nice. Naan is complimentary which is a plus. As for the food itself, I made sure to try a bit of everything. There is a large selection ranging from your standard tikka masala to saag and even a dhosa station. For drinks we got some iced tea and mango lassi(of course) — pretty average fare, no complaints there. As a huge gulab jamun fan, I must say Thali did a pretty decent job. texture was good and you could definitely taste the rose flavoring. Additionally the waiters were attentive and polite. I would definitely come here for brunch if you are craving some Indian food.

We stopped over for lunch on Sunday. The buffet is good and has quite a good amount of vegetarian options as well. Chicken starters were worth mentioning. Ambience is neat and bright and the place is quite spacious. Dessert disappointed us. All in all not bad option for lunch. Overpriced

I’m conflicted with how I feel about this restaurant. The food is good, but the restaurant is also quite pricey and I don’t think the quality makes up for it. Indian food in general is already pricey, but Thali takes it to a new level. An in return for this extra pricing, you get pretty plating. The service was mediocre at best. Yes, they cleared the crumbs off our table at the end of the main course, but they used a wet rag and it seemed like it was only because«thats whats done» at fancy restaurants. Otherwise, the waiter did not come around often enough, and our food took forever to come out. For Indian food, it tastes quite average. If anything, I think in the search to make it seem«fancier», the food doesn’t taste as authentic. In my opinion you’re better off going to a regular casual Indian restaurant.

We decided to head into New Haven on the worst day possible… St Patrick’s Parade day. D’oh! With my wife and daughter in tow we navigated the closed off streets and drunk college kids to find a pizza place. It didn’t happen, so after 1 hour of circling I ditched the car at a lot for $ 20(ouch!) and hungrily staggered to Thali with my daughter safely off the street and on my shoulders and wife angrily giving me dirty looks for taking the family into the chaos. My daughter thought the funny stumbling people in green were some comedy act. We saw Thali across the street and went straight to it. We were pleasantly surprised there wasn’t a crowd of inebriated leprechauns here. We ordered a couple off glasses of Gruner Veltliner and took on the task of figuring out what to eat. We went for the Bhel Puri(Indian street food classic), garlic naan(hint.wasn’t on menu but ordered it anyway), chicken tikka, and the baingan bharat(spice eggplant). I was a hard earned meal that was quickly inhaled. The server was very attentive. Great meal. If you want decent Indian food this is an excellent choice.

I love the casual formality of this place. This is a fairly traditional Indian menu. Not the commercialized care you will see in some of the other Indian restaurants in Connecticut like Coromandel. The smells are heavenly and authentic! Quiet and authentic. The servers are formal and very attentive. I like it a lot. For an appetizer, we had samosas. I am not a fan. My daughter loved them and ate most if not all of them. I found them pretty dry. They were heavy on the potato and light on everything else. Plus the dough was too thick :(there wasn’t much of a variety in the appetizers, which was disappointing. But our FOOD was excellent. I am sitting here in a yummy food coma. We had tandoori chicken, lamb pasanda?, and prawns rubbed in carom. The rice was well flavored and all of the meat dishes were on point. No additional spices were necessary. My daughter is In heaven! I am as well. All of the meat dishes were so tender, moist, and flavorful I can’t wait to come back. The nan was also quite good, but I was too stuffed to really enjoy it.
