I have been here many dozens of times. The food is excellent and prepared very carefully. The family that owns and operates this establishment are as lovely as the food. I have never had a poorly prepared dish. I usually call my orders in for pickup. They also have a good selection of middle eastern canned goods. This place should be WAY more popular than it is.

I really wanted to like this place as it is around the corner from me. I had a shahwarma from here a few years ago and it was not memorable. I figured I return to try the falafel, which I did a few weeks ago. The first time was on a Sunday and there was a man behind the counter and the falafel sandwich was great, he grilled it after making it. Having been impressed, I went back and this time, a lady was behind the counter and she was eating. She did not wash her hands before making my sandwich, that should’ve been my clue to run — but I got the sandwich, which was not grilled and ate it. I got very sick the next day. I will not go back here again as I question the cleanliness of the kitchen. It is a locally owned place and I wanted to support, but when the food is bad, there is nothing you can do.

A small place, takes a bit of time as everything is made to order from scratch… love their falafel… could be a bit cleaner as it has grocery; but the kitchen looks clean as you can see how they cook.

We stopped by to grab a quick dinner on the way to the park for the evening, and grabbed a shawarma wrap to share. WEHADNOIDEAWHATWEWEREINFOR. The wrap was AMAZING. A perfect blend of flavors, textures, and spiciness, we were definitely fighting over it. Can’t wait to go back for another. I can’t believe I heard about Mamoun’s as soon as I moved to NH and nobody mentioned this place!

I’ve been dreading writing this review. but feel that I must, in all honesty. I LOVE this place, I really do — we always got the shawarma and falafel platters to-go, then either ate them outside the store or at East Rock Park. The couple who run this place are so nice, and take great care into preparing their food. However, I regret to say that the last time we were here, last weekend, we found a dead 1″ maggot in our baba ghanoush. I want to think that it’s a one time fluke, but I’m not sure I can stomach going back there again :(

This is by far the best falafel Ive ever had. It was so good that we came back for dinner! the owners are lovely, the food is fresh, the falafel is made right in front of you… its relatively cheap, and it makes mamouns look awful. Really, really fantastic place. The baba ghanoush is extraordinary too!

I’d say this place is better than mamoun’s. I don’t think it’s more expensive because you get a LOT more for your money. It’s definitely a take-out place and not a place you go for service. The food quality is always fresh and authentic and the people who work there are super nice.

Yes, sometimes you just want jump behind the counter and figure out how to finish prepping the falafel wrap/sandwich, but it’s worth every minute of wait. And they have gotten faster. The falafels are cooked to order and everything tastes really fresh.

I had dinner here this evening, and I have to say, it was the best falafel pita I’ve had in a long long time. The falafels were freshly fried, and the sauces were adequately but not overly applied. Best of all, though, were the pickled vegetables — what a great and surprisingly tasty addition!

I was so excited when I passed by this place when I was living in New Haven. Falafel, right down the street from me? I couldn’t wait to try it! I’ve had their falafel a few times now, it’s so good and they do it all from scratch. The ingredients are all very fresh. **A quick tip is to order beforehand and pick it up. I’ve gone in to the mart and ordered a falafel and have waited about 20 minutes or so for it. So, if you have time to kill, then you have nothing to worry about. But if you are not the patient type, definitely call in ahead with your order. I’ve also eaten inside with a friend on our lunch break. When we were there, almost a year ago, it wasn’t well suited for dining in. Given this is a deli, I recommend just picking up the food and eating at home or taking it back to work with you.

Excellent chicken shawerma, decent falafel. Everything is made fresh to order. Very close to home, but that’s not going to be the only reason I go back.(there’s a pastrami, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, holy !!!)

A great addition to the East Rock neighborhood. The chicken shawerma(pita/wrap) is quality. There’s something about the way they season the chicken and they add the right combination of fresh vegetables-full of umami! I was surprised to find out there was a new Middle Eastern food spot in the area. It takes a bit long to prepare the food, but it’s worth the wait. Watch out Mamoun’s!

This is a quaint Middle Eastern shop that serves excellent falafel. What I liked best is that they prepare each falafel wrap or pita fresh for you — therefore, you should expect a long wait. For example, I’ve consistently waited easily 15+ minutes for my $ 6 falafel wraps. I wish they had whole wheat pita, instead of just whole wheat tortillas, but it’s better than nothing. The falafel is good and I love that they’re not afraid to make the wrap/pita spicy with red pepper and jalapenos. I don’t like that they add pickles to the wrap, which just throws off the taste(thankfully, you can tell them to hold the pickles). One more plus point: One Stop serves Turkish tea in small tulip-shaped cups. Nice touch. On a whole, this place isn’t bad. That said, the location is out of the way and the long waits make me reconsider on occasion.

The food is good, albeit overpriced compared to Mamouns or other small downtown eateries, and the quality is not high, either. The service is where they get their worst marks, however. I do not particularly like their baba ganoush, and yet I seem to get two servings of it every time I order here. When I got the wrong dish more than once in a row(and baba ganoush instead of the hummous/tabouli I had ordered for maybe the 4th time), I decided to stop coming here. The wait is too long considering how few customers I see in here, and the frequency with which I get the wrong food really irritates me. There is nothing like waiting 15 minutes to get the wrong food, and when you complain be told, «It’s OK, the baba ganoush is very good.» With that said the falafel is quite good, and the shwerma dishes as well, but the long wait and the likelihood of not getting what I’ve ordered mean I’d rather take a walk behind the Peabody and order from the Ali Baba cart, which consistently delivers incredible food for 5 dollars.

Well, here’s a novelty for you. Better than Mamoun’s. Yup, I said it. This place, unassumingly referred to only as «Falafel & Schawarma» on the outside, replaced the equally unassuming market that used to be there(what was it even called)? Stopped in with LW on a sunny Tuesday evening weeks ago, and have been back many times since. I was skeptical, but these dudes deliver. The eponymous Falafel and Schawarma wraps are spectacular. The veggies are super fresh and spectacular. The wraps are generously portioned and happily priced. They take a while to make, but that’s how you know it’s good. They do need to get better snacks though — seeing as how the made to order food is super-foodie-friendly, I was surprised to see a selection consisting only of 50 cent Utz chip bags and Hershey’s ice cream bars. Nonetheless, the greek food can’t be beat in New Haven, and this might be the tastiest meal in East Rock. Food: 23⁄25 stars Service: 25⁄25 stars Ambiance: 20⁄25 stars Bathroom: n/a Probability of going back: 100%

Excellent falafel wrap, perfectly put together, and with fresh made falafel fried up right in front of you. And for only $ 5. A great little maket with all the necessities from milk to hummus to charcoal for your bbq. I look forward to trying other sandwiches.

Best hummus and baba ghannoush in town. Both are homemade and wonderful. The other things are strong as well: falafel always fried fresh for you, dolmas, labneh, tabouleh etc… Now, if they could only make their own bread…

Stopped in for lunch, I must say it really hit the spot. I had the lamb wrap and it was very tasty. Next time I’ll order without pickles though. My girlfriend got the chicken and she loved it. Good prices and very friendly service. We’ll be back.

We’re so excited to have a place to get falafel and such right here in East Rock. The people are very nice and the food was fresh and tasty. They also have an assortment of mostly room temperature food and home items for sale and also dairy. They also have middle eastern spices and such that you can’t find in the regular supermarket. Thumbs up!
