My boyfriend and I were visiting New Glarus from Chicago and we decided to stop in a local bar for the evening to have a bite and a couple beers. A couple of locals said that Tofflers was a nice laid back place that had good food. At first we were alright with the place, it seemed like a nice little townie bar. We ordered some appetizers and beers. I had the artichoke dip(which is served with chips and carrots and celery) I ended up getting very sick from this later in the evening– obviously food poisoning would lead me to steer people away from a place, but on top of this the service here was miserable. My boyfriend was hoping to watch the Belator fights so we asked our server if she could change one of the televisions from ESPN to the channel the fight was on(a basic cable channel that they had), she checked out the TV to see when it was on and what channel it was, and about 10 minutes later the owner came over to our table and told us that they«couldn’t show the fights in there». We were fine with that, no big dear. Then he told us that a different bar just down the street would *definitely* have the fights on. We didn’t know what to think of that but we went down the street and saw that the bar he was talking about was a major dive that definitely gave us the impression that he felt that people who watched MMA were of a certain class, and that his establishment was better than that. And honestly Tofflers is a crappy sports bar with nasty food– nothing to be stuck up about. If you’re going through New Glarus there’s about 10 bars to choose from if you want to find a place to hang out and drink– skip Tofflers.

We popped in here for the Friday Fish Fry. As a Wisconsin native, I knew I had to show my three companions(from NY and NJ) what a Wisconsin Fish Fry was all about. The short of it: we were all still raving about it two days later! Wonderful fish, battered in the local Spotted Cow. Good portions. Impeccable service. I’ll definitely be back the next time my travels take me to New Glarus.

Full disclosure, this is a rough one. The food was not great. I did get some nonstandard items, so less than perfection is understandable. They did not charge me for the entrée that I didn’t eat, simply because I didn’t end up liking it. So, as far as customer service goes, they get lots of points. What I tried: Spinach and artichoke dip– very strong overcooked spinach flavor, not enough artichokes, and could have used another brick or two of cream cheese. Served with chips, carrots and celery. The Stinky– burger served with garlic, blue cheese, and onion rings. I opted for a black bean burger, which had a very mush texture and didn’t live up to others that I’ve had. The bun was way too soft and fell apart, the onion rings lacked flavor(just tasted like oil) and the toppings did not compliment the black bean burger at all. Since I did go with a nonstandard patty, some of the fault lies with me for going rouge. I went with a large group(about 15 people) and everyone else seemed to enjoy their experience. Word to the wise, don’t try to get too creative here, don’t be like me and go off menu. Stick with the standards, and you will probably leave happy.

Possibly New Years eve isn’t the best day to evaluate. However my prime rib last night left a poor impression. It was served on a cool/cold plate which rapidly cooled the meat. It was far from tender and would assume it’s place among the worst that I have had. Baked potato was ok but served with only two squares of butter. Broccoli in a small cool bowl came almost as an afterthought. The best part was the salad which was quite small in size. The server was ok but I didn’t come to see the staff.

I like listening to the live music they have during the summer on the back patio!

Very slow service… Prices too high for portion size… Pretty much a disappointment. Would not recommend patronizing

The burgers were really tasty. Not very big and not many fries, but it was good for a lunch portion and not too expensive. I’m not sure how well their air conditioning works since we practically were sweating in there. The chili and brats smelled fantastic!

The tacos(both the pulled pork and the shrimp ones) were fantastic as well as the bacon Mac and Cheese! The one thing we recommend to skip would be the Chicken Tenders, as they were weirdly long and not very tasty. They were dipped in buffalo it that didn’t hide the taste of the interesting and not favorable meat. Outside was nice but we had to fight a few bees and ended up sitting inside! Overall very nice just skip the tenders!

This place was… interesting. It is in an old house, i think? Vibe was really, really weird. They have New Glarus on tap. so that is what matters, right? Food was good but not great. I wasn’t mad at what I ordered, but it didn’t blow me away. Also, I sat and listened to the owner/manager talk to some regular the whole time and the dude was a tool! So that didn’t help. Would I go back? Probably not.

Tofflers is not what I think of when I think about going to a pub– this place is bright and open. It even has carpet! It’s in a historic building, which is nice, and I liked the vibe overall. It was a nice change of pace. It looks like there’s a bar area, more of a sit down area and a patio. We stuck to the indoor bar area. We had a super nice server, who was efficient and on top of things. I required that we order fried cheese curds, since we were in Wisconsin, and since I’d read someone else call them the best ever. These did not disappoint and truly were the best I’d ever had! I’ve had cheese curds in the past that were all breading and air inside, and real tiny ones that get over done. These were about the size of half my finger, perfectly cooked, hot(not not too hot) and totally filled with cheese. I recommend the remoulade option too for dipping. That was fantastic. I am dreaming of those curds! My guy and I also ordered burgers. We were not asked how we wanted them cooked, but they came out juicy and like a medium well– fine by me! They had great flavor, the bacon that I added to mine was semi crispy, and the bbq sauce I added was a perfect amount– like a nice drizzle, not a big cupful of it on there. The bread it came on was also amazing. It was a white roll but so soft and bready– not fake bagged bun-like, if you get what I mean. I’ve never been so into a burger bun before! The fries were just OK though, nothing to write home about. Now, onto drinks– you can use the New Glarus coupon there(from the brewery) and they had 4⁄5 of their tap options which that applied to. And yes, there are 5 new glarus taps there! My guy got another craft beer that he loved, and I got a Not Your Father’s Rootbeer in the bottle. The drinks were like $ 4.50 each too, which blew us away. Drinking is so much better in Wisconsin, sheesh! Everyone we ran into at the bar was super nice and welcoming. They have new glarus beers at the front when you first walk in to buy and take home too!

We stopped here after a day at the brewery to watch the Hawks game after a local recommendation. We were NOT disappointed. The bacon Mac and cheese and buffalo black and bleu burger were awesome. New glarus on tap was such a treat. Amazing staff and environment. We’ll definitely be back!

We stopped by Tofflers for a quick bite recently, just before attending a gardening workshop at the New Glarus Library(also a great thing!). The place was quiet, but it was only 6:00p on a Thursday, so I can’t speak to some of the noise other reviewers have mentioned. I thought the space was clean and bright. We were set off in a non-bar area for our meal. My vegetarian friends had the spinach artichoke dip and a salad; from what they said the dip was very rich and somewhat heavy. I had the chicken bacon ranch wrap, which was quite tasty, and being one of my go-to menu items at a new place left me pleased and willing to try other menu items. My brother and his gf shared some chips and salsa. I wouldn’t say the food was anything particularly special, but it was tasty and didn’t strike me as the Sysco fare that you find at many bars. We didn’t have a lot of time, so we had no drinks and kept the food pretty simple. Service was great, our waitress checked in every so often and was totally receptive to our short window of time. I wish I could say more, but we were only here for a little over a half-hour. The important bit: I will definitely come back if we’re in the area and hungry. I’ll update when we do. :)

When we could not enter the Glarner Stube, see that review, we went here. What a nice place! We had burgers which were delicious. They had a great tap beer I never heard of: Lake Louis Warped Speed. Delicious! Tried their Bloody Mary too, and I must say, it was very good. Service was very attentive, Aleah I think was her name. She was bartender and waitress and was running around that joint keeping everyone well served. The only knock I have is the country music they played, very blue grassy stuff. But thats just me. Looked like most people there enjoyed it. Next trip to New Glarus, I’m coming back for more.

Great place for a beer and bar food(and in our place, desert). It’s a fun place with live music on Saturdays. Outside of the good selection of beer, had the new Glarus chili. Smokey, sweet, and spicy. Very good to pair with a nice NG beer(I had it with s belgium red fruit beer). Service is super nice and friendly too(sadly…the best service we’ve had in the whole town). Would come again.

I like to do some research in advance when I’m doing an out of town day trip to a place I haven’t been, or even on vacation… no surprise there, I mean have you read my reviews??? I love to Unilocal and to read Unilocal too! So of course, I did some research in advance before a day trip up to New Glarus to hit up the brewery, grab lunch, etc. After checking the New Glarus websites, I checked out lunch places in the area, menus, Unilocal reviews, etc. This place had everything I wanted … a good meal, cheese curds, maybe a beer? The New Glaurs brewery gave us a coupon for a free small beer from this place and this was already after we decided we were having lunch here so it was a win-win situation. My sister and I ordered cheese curds and she posted a picture in her review below me, she had the mac and cheese, I had a chicken pesto pannini … great atmosphere for lunch on their back outdoor patio(minus the bees, not the restaurant’s fault) the service was decent, so were the prices. Definitely check this place out if you’re in town…

Best cheese curds ive ever had in my life!!! They werent busy at all and it was stuffy inside so we sat outside, which was real cute, they have these tarps hanging above some of the tables in case it rains, lights all over so it looked like it would be a nice place to eat or drink. Or both at night! We had a coupon for a free beer from a brewery we went to so that was pretty cool too. I had the mac n cheese, i HAD to get it because it was made w Wisconsin cheese, how could you pass that up? Of course it was delicious, they crumble breadcrumbs on top and finish baking it so its crispy.

We stopped-in for a quick beer prior to heading over to Firefest on a Saturday night in early August. + Large building + Lots of New Glarus taps, plus 2 «guest» taps(Hopalicious and Avery) + Large bar area with a bunch of seating options; dining options include a side room, and upstairs, and outdoor patio + Bartenders were prompt and friendly + Taps were reasonably priced — Very stagnant feeling inside; like the AC was on the fritz or something — Noise. Oh my god, the noise. I hate to sound like old man geeky, but crikey. There were a total of 18 people in the bar area(I counted), and my pal and I had to shout our beer orders to the bartender, who then had to lean in and ask us to repeat it. We then sat and shouted at each other about how loud it was — between the music(bartender’s iPod? songs kept changing mid-song, as if they were always changing their mind) and the 16 other people, it was like sitting behind a 777 jet engine(and I’m used to loud). I could understand the noise if it were 11:30pm, but this was at 6:30pm on a Saturday. I can’t imagine how the diners sitting in the adjacent areas had to feel.

We came here as a bike ride destination from Madison. The brewery was closed and we wanted food anyway. The cheese curds were delicious! My boyfriend loved his club sandwich. We were also happy to see such a variety of new glarus beers on tap and to go options. I had the vegetarian version of the stinky which they accidentally brought the meat version of and promptly replaced with the correct one(the meaty one looked super delicious btw). The veggie burger was alright but could be better. I didn’t expect much vegetarian options so, I’m happy to see it but it could definitely use improvements. It was mushy and probably needs to be pre-baked before they cook it up. Also, they were blasting country music… not my favorite.

Great spot to listen to some local music, get some food, and have a few drinks. Music: The Jimmy’s were playing tonight. The keyboardist was amazing. And he’s a dairy farmer by day blues pianist by night. Crazy. Food & Drink: Had a fish sandwich and fries that was delicious. Beer is definitely the preferred drink here. At one point I ordered a Glenlivet on the rocks. Apparently people don’t order that much here since the bartender didn’t know how much to charge me for it and also poured me a huge glass of it, as if it was wine. Score! People: Super friendly crowd. Partied with old folks in New Glarus(pop. 2,174). While looking up stats about New Glarus on wikipedia, I learned that the town is 0.28% Asian, so with me being in town I increased the Asian population by 15%
