Best Western Plus New Cumberland Inn & Suites

I do NOT understand why the low ratings but my family and I (traveling with two kids under the age of 4) had a great experience here. We had a one night stay at this hotel and other than the bathroom tub needing some work (I will admit it grossed me out but my kids didn’t use the tub so not a huge deal) the staff was friendly, the room was nice, conveniently located and tucked away from the highway. This was our 3^rd different hotel chain we stayed at during our road trip from NY heading back down south and this had to be my favorite affordable and clean (overall) hotel we stayed at! We would stay here again.
My one con would be that we were confused by the toll road needing a ticket but that’s not the hotels fault. We aren’t from the area and just were confused.

Forward a few weeks from my review and email to the customer support. I ended up getting an email to contact the corporate support line. Which I ended up calling at my convenience.
A 15 minute review of notes within the computer system to have this hotel lie to the corporate office that they attempted to call me. My contact information was verified during the phone call. The customer support staff via phone didn’t do anything other than leave a note that I had contacted the corporate line. The person helping told me to call back in a week if I had not heard back.
It’s was over a week ago. What I can say about this hotel is don’t expect much. The manager mentioning they attempted to call me. I have my phone on all the time and they would have been better just saying they know the situation and chose not to contact me.
What I can expect about the corporate response other than they really don’t want me to stay at another Best Western. I think this hotel chain of independent operators is overrated. It’s disappointing considering this was my first stay at a Best Western and I hope to avoid at all costs in the future.

I didn’t feel safe here most of the week. The lady checking in was mostly friendly. Given a room that was or wasn’t occupied. A do not disturbed sign on the door. Ruffled sheets for a room that wasn’t even clean.
She gave me another room which had a couple in there. Fortunately they weren’t haven’t intercourse or something else like a person with a firearm.
Finally gave me a room with nobody in it. Not the room type I requested. Not sure if anybody would go into my room so I took most of my luggage and work with me to the car. I put a lock on my luggage whenever I left.
Manager, housekeeping or someone else messed up beyond belief a check in that ended up over an hour. The women assured me it wouldn’t happen again.
After the checkin and talking several times I had no reasonable certainty that it wouldn’t. I had to go out of my way to talk with manager not the other way around. I asked for a hotel change. Wasn’t able to find me anything. She had offered other items but didn’t try hard enough to push back to offer me anything that would convince me to stay let alone stay in another Best Western. I really had no more time to waste on getting a resolution as I was out in the town for work.
I was not happy at all. My mindset was «let’s hope nobody comes in my room that’s not supposed to be there.»
Room itself was dirty. Found lots of loose stray hairs from either cleaning staff or prior guests. Dusty on the carpets near the beds and behind chairs. Bathroom floor had some weird stains on the tile and mold around the tub. Room was not set for any particular way. Bed linens were slightly off white for being white linens. Bed was lumpy and hurt my back. I didn’t sleep well for the work trip I was on.
Décor was relatively up to date.
Breakfast was available in the morning. Coffee was mediocre at best for Maxwell House. Waffle maker was available not sure if the plate needed to be changed out on one as I ended up with slightly doughy waffle after waiting on the beep. Eggs were ok. Protein was alright for sausage. One of the days biscuits and gravy was provided. Biscuits were so dry. Definitely need the gravy to avoid choking on.
There’s a pool, spa, and gym that I didn’t bother to try. The first day should sum it up best.
It was a shame if this was how Best Westerns are run or training of employees. Manager stated that the employee that was root of the problems is no longer there.
Better than the worst but definitely a no go. Only thing that could have been worse is walking in on a person with firearms. Definitely avoid.

The room was huge and ample parking. That’s pretty much all I have to say that’s nice about this hotel.
Where do I even begin. Well let’s start with the fact we had 5 rooms booked and went to the hotel at 1 pm to see if we can get the rooms so that we could unload our luggage. I know it was 1 pm and it was two hours early than check in but getting rooms at other locations before check in time never was a problem especially since it was a Friday. So the old white lady (I forgot her name. Maybe she was middle aged) said there was no way I can get you the rooms not even one. So we said fine it’s not 3 it’s understandable well come back. We come back around 3:30 and now we can start checking in, so we asked for our rooms to be together or at least on the same floor to which we were told at 1 pm shouldn’t be a problem and to our surprise well not my pessimistic side the rooms were split up on two floors. So we said fine to that as well. We get in to the rooms and they were big and clean (ish). We take a looks at the bathroom of the one the rooms and it looks like they forgot to clean it. Called the front desk she sent up a girl to clean it who quickly and I mean quickly wiped the bathroom using one rag for all the surfaces and left. My wife looks at the bathroom again and it still looks dirty. Call down again she sends up three cleaning people who are annoyed as hell and are not hiding their feelings about it. Openly and loudly talking about how the bathroom is not dirty after we pointed stains of #2 on the toilet. So the first girl says I’m done and leaves the room and slams the door followed by the second girl who leaves normally while awkwardly giving me eye contact while bad mouthing us about how the toilet and bathroom are not dirty and the third girl cleans the best she can and leaves. I asked the third one if she knew the name of the first girl to which she said she doesn’t know anybody’s name she just started. She fully believes in snitches gets you stitches statement. Anyway my wife went in and finished what she didn’t get.
Even the bed linens looked like they were washed and dried and no ironing involved. (I hope they were washed) So we stayed for two nights. In one of the rooms the ac wasn’t working at all but we let it be because the people in that room didn’t mind the temperature, got lucky with that. I didn’t want another angry employee coming in and telling me how it’s working and I’m stupid.
The hotel had breakfast which was being run by a new employee he was doing his best to run it by himself with a packed hotel. They ran out of essentials quick like peanut butter, creamer, yogurt among others.
So to top it off as we were checking out and leaving the guy who was hired the day before who they threw in to the breakfast chaos was fired because he wanted a break since he was manning it by himself for the last two days was fired on the spot for asking for a break or help. He also voiced other guests opinions on how the hotel sucked before he gave the finger and left.
I know it is a best western and what should I expect but I have stayed in them before and never had problems. I know this is probably a franchise and they don’t care but the whole level of service and attitude really made me want to vent my anger by writing this review. And you would think plus means better haha it’s not (more like minus, no nobody’s laughing at that one. I doubt anybody has gotten this far down)
I would stay away until they change owners or get better management. And we booked directly through them and not a third party websites you would think that would mean something as well

Very nice and simple hotel. The price is right and they don’t try to nickel and dime you.
It’s a bit noisy as the music in the hall ways is on til very late and many rooms are open to the lobby. But staff are nice and accommodating and would stay here again.

This hotel is clean and has a really nice staff. I have no complaints. I checked in at 4:00 AM and had a smal dog that is quiet but was freaked out about the long drive. The front desk was super helpful and nice and my room is nice. Flat screen TV and a small refrigerator, modern enough. Mattresses seem hard but the room is clean which at 4:00 AM is all you really care about. Goodnight.

I have stayed at better Best Western’s across the country. It’s ok for a one night stay. The worst thing about this hotel, it’s extremely loud. The rooms could use updating as well.
