Friendly and fast server BUT my hubby and I has brunch there… finally…but.in a word, BLAND. There were a lot of elderly folks there so maybe that’s why… no spicy flavor or even salt n pepper could be a tasted in our food. I had burger n fries .just blah. Fries aren’t crispy, soggy. Hubby had eggs n bacon, biscuits and gravy… he said it wasn’t good at all. question, how do you mess those items uo? No seasoning… not good. won’t be going back. UGH.

Its okay. Service is hit or miss. Calorie rich comfort food is served here, most of it is okay but largely forgettable.

I’ve been here many times and the food quality seems to have really gone downhill. I got a sad-looking cheeseburger with a tiny, grisly patty and crinkle fries that were soggy and tasteless. Bread is awesome, coleslaw is good, but served dripping out of the bowl placed on a hot plate-not very appetizing. The whole place smells and feels a bit dirty with the weird chemical overlay of Renuzit air fresheners and mop bucket water… just a really unpleasant experience overall.

This place is adorable it reminds me of all those diners my grandparents took me to when I was young. I agree with other reviews, stick with their«specials» anything broasted or fresh entrees of the day. This is not a hamburger joint. It’s a diner so go for the entrees and sides, coleslaw is fantastic btw.

the food was not to bad just a little salty for my taste. I’ve heard so many people brag about it. but I was somewhat disappointed cause it the same stuff I make at home but with less salt. I remember back in the day this place was awsome.

A nice diner, been around for 50 years and feels like it, in a good way. A throwback for sure. I ordered a breakfast special, 2 eggs, sausage, home fries & coffee. The server, Ami, was very attentive and was pleasant. The service was very quick. I bet from the time from when I told Ami what I wanted, the food was on my table in less than 5 minutes. It did not disappoint. I had heard of their cole slaw and homemade bread, I picked up a pint of slaw &2 loafs of day old bread at the check out. I’ll definitely be back.

There are some items that are fabulous at Mel-O-Dee and others that are meh. I really love the Mel-O-Burger and Club Sandwich. Their fries can be hit or miss on the cook/flavor. However, you can’t argue with the cole slaw or homemade bread. It is fabulous! They also have a great selection of pies. They occasionally have scalloped potatoes as a special that I’m obsessed with. I also love their house made salad dressings. I used to love their beef and noodles dish but the last few times I’ve had it, it lacked any seasoning and the noodles were so bland. I think their mashed potatoes are instant because they always lack any flavor and seem like they are made with water. I wish they would make more items from scratch. It is a nice little hometown diner and everyone there is so friendly. I have never received a screwed up order or bad service, and I’ve been going there for 30 years!

A HUGE landmark for Park Layne! Mel-O-Dee has been around for ever… and I mean that… FOREVER. They are always packed! They are famous for their broasted chicked and homemade bread. Their prices are good… their portions are very good. The only criticism I can think of is that they could stand to do renovation. It looks the same as it did 30 years ago. Everyone in the surrounding area knows about The Mel-O-Dee. I would recommend stopping by for this little piece of history and trying their food if you’ve never been here. Don’t forget to order their chicken and try their bread. We usually buy loaves of bread on the way home! Oh, and you can order your meal to go ahead of time too!

Just another greasy spoon diner. And not in a good way. The eggs were mediocre, none of the other dishes looked appetizing, and I am not certain that anyone in our party even came close to finishing their meal. Would never come back. Yuck.

Not a fan. I got the cheeseburger and fries and it tasted almost exactly like it came from the McDonald’s down the street. Ended up finishing the burger and leaving half of the tasteless fries. I was unable to get more than a single bite of their coleslaw down, man was that terrible… probably the worst coleslaw I have ever had. Everyone else got breakfast stuff and seemed to be okay with it(nothing to rave about).

Have been going to this restaurant for years… We went today… only a couple people in there… more staff than customers. Lots of staff walking around… yelling at other workers and gossiping about someone who was married very loudly… we got our drinks. 4.50 worth for two small drinks… Then we got the coleslaw… and then we waited. And waited… and had to listen to the gossip that was two rows over… I got the bean soup and hubby got the chicken… waitress said. Here is your food. Shouldn’t have taken so long as we aren’t busy. my soup was cold and had to have them reheat it. They have went downhill in service and. It needs to be revamped and ceiling vents cleaned. Used to be such a great place

This is one Mel-o-dee you will not be humming. This is my second attempt at eating here… and my feelings haven’t changed from the first time… this place is awful. The food is below average(with an above average price) partnered with an artificial atmosphere that masks quaintness – and the dated décor and laid-back country folk routine that they are striving for, falls short. The wait staff seem miserable and selective on whom they show hospitality(I’m going with a local connection on this one). Do yourself a favor and visit the Wendy’s down the road. It is cheaper and much tastier.

Great family restaurant! The French toast made with fresh homemade bread is the best around, and the portions are large for the price.

My fiancé and I stumbled across this place when driving from Pittsburgh to Milwaukee one year — we actually found it on Unilocal! The reviews looked good, so we stopped in, and I was definitely not disappointed. Their Mel-O-Dee burger is amazing! Their ingredients always seem fresh and their burgers are quite juicy. I also love their Midwestern feel and the attentiveness of the servers, and their Christmas décor is one of my absolute favorite things about the place. Walking in and seeing all the ornaments hung from the ceiling just makes me feel so happy the second I walk in the door. Love this place!

Delicious home-style cooking and good ol’ Midwestern hospitality. My fiancée and I always stop here when we drive from Pittsburgh to Milwaukee for Christmas. We’re always seated promptly when we come. They have great breakfast food, and I adore the broaster chicken! If you’re traveling near Dayton, definitely give this place a try!

It pains me to write this, but the mel-o-dee is not what it once was. It’s such a shame too because I’ll talk to people who live 50, 60 minutes away and they ALL know about the mel-o-dee. It has SUCH a history and reputation. I went there recently and got the broasted chicken dinner with two sides. The chicken was fine, tasty, pretty much like any restaurant that offers«broasted» chicken, it’s all the same. I chose fries and potatoes as my sides, but unfortunately they were subpar. The fries were clearly pre frozen ore ida crinkle cut fries. Not that those are bad. Heck, I have a bag in my freezer., my kids LOVE them. But I dont expect them when paying 10+ for a dinner out somewhere. The potatoes were instant flakes. I know, because they weren’t fully mixed and my portion had several flakes in it. Again, nothing wrong with instant potatoes, I just should be paying 10+ for them. Their bread is still phenomenal, so that’s a plus. I just wish the food were better. I remember coming here as a kid when we lived out of town and it seems like it was a lot better.

Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. This place, while outdated, has a nostalgic appeal that will remind you of a simpler time. Reminds me of good home cooked meals, that just never seem to happen enough these days.

This place is what it is, a fine place for a fine plate of «good old fashioned country cookin’.» It’s NOT deluxe gourmet(doesn’t try to be) and there are NO surprises. I’ve been here a few times, and like most spots like this, if you stick to what they’re known for(anything BROASTED…) and breakfast(available ALLDAY!!), you can’t go wrong. Also, can’t hurt feeling like the youngest, skinniest one in the place! A great ego boost for anyone in the 40’s range who could stand to lose a pound or two, but CAN still fit into an(oversized!!) booth! Really, people… Good stuff, but you might want to «hold the gravy» every once in a while!
