Things haven’t changed much since my last review. The food is very simple but they have two major flaws: i.) Consistency. ii.) Service. The food is still a hit or a miss depending on the day you come. Still the same kid cooking, but he seems to have got better. My biggest disappointment is with the service. As you walk in you are shouted from across the room«sit where ever you like.» The owner and servers just congregate at the counter. I was ignored for most of my meal and it was very difficult to get their attention for a refill of my coffee. You are not even busy. Just get up, greet your customers and check on them once or twice after you have served their food. Really, it is not that difficult. This diner has a lot of potential but lacks in dedication, organization and attention to details. I actually like the old beat up metal diner façade and overall atmosphere, but the owner just seem to settle with mediocre which is a shame. Unfortunately I will not be coming back! Best of luck!

I ate at Miss Washington Diner about two and a half years ago and I absolutely loved it. I told the owner that I would write a Unilocal review and completely forgot about it until I came across the business card I had taken while cleaning out my desk today. Hopefully this is better late than never. The service was great and I had hands down the best reuben I have ever had. I judge a diner based on its reuben, and I’ve eaten literally hundreds in my life. This was the best, and that’s saying something because I live in NYC surrounded by great delis. Hope to come back again someday if I’m ever in the area!

Cute little classic diner with good food and reasonable prices. The service was okay(a bit slow to refill coffees, etc.) but friendly.

This place is a classic. Awesome atmosphere of an old metal diner, great food and very reasonable priced. the pancakes and waffles are delicious and filling but still light enough that you don’t feel weighted down after eating. The eggs and potatoes were cooked just right and the service was wonderfully friendly waitress. I’m not in New Britain too often so this is a destination for me and one I need to visit far more often.

This is the go to place for me and my fiancé. We go frequently for lunch. They have the best burgers in town. The staff is always friendly and attentive.

I hate to write a negative review but we had a pretty awful experience here. Multiple key items were not available. All three burgers were ordered rare and came out extra well done. Half of their toppings were missing. A regular omelette came out egg whites. An incorrect order came out instead of what we placed. The pastries were hard and stale. The portions are very small and unsatisfying. Also, felt pretty unsafe in the area. The hash browns were pretty good though!

Been here twice, live right down the street, both times the food was your standard Diner style breakfast. Little bit on the pricey side for a diner, but the food is decent and they usually have it out to you pretty quickly. The staff is some of the friendliest people you can ask for, from the wait staff to the cooks to the dishwashers, every interaction I’ve had there with anyone has been great. The homemade breads are delicious. My only qualm would be that the food is a little greasy, but hey it’s a diner and when I’ve gone there I’m usually hungover so it’s perfect.

Absolutely terrific. You 4 and 5 star reviewers really know how to write a review. I don’t know what the 1 star reviewers are smoking. This diner dates back 70 years. You can feel the ghosts of diners in the 40’s still eating there. The food was more than I expected. You go to diners to eat diner food. It was tasty and unique. Try the Breakfast Burger. OMG. I want one now! Looking forward to seeing Dan, the owner and grill master(Awesom guy) and Judy and Debbie, world class diner waitresses. Thanks for being you. See you soon.

Gross :( I love a good greasy spoon, but this place was just plain disgusting. I ordered a spinach & feta omelet that smelled and tasted like beer(the spinach had obviously turned). My boyfriend’s biscuits and gravy were so utterly tasteless, not even salt saved it. In search for a diamond in the rough, what we found was real, real rough. Now I’m out over $ 20. What a missed opportunity for a hearty weekend breakfast.

This place was nasty. Whoever said it was delicious must be blind and have no taste buds. I went here because we were in town for a wedding, I «yelped» diners in the area and this one got nearly FIVE stars… Really? It’s in a sketchy area and the place just looks… Dirty. The food was ‘meh’. I love diners and have been to many. I want my calories back from this place.

Sandwich was decent. I think the waitress forgot our order, nor did she write up our bill! Hectic payment… Overall, it was acceptable…

I visited twice during my weekend stay in the New Britain area. They are the quintessential diner experience. It was a hoot to chat with Dan, the line cook for my first visit, who prepared a delicious lunch. The customers are mostly all greeted by name and asked if they would like their usual. It’s like Cheers, but as a diner.

A dying breed — The standalone diner that was constructed to be a diner. Indeed, Miss Washington is showing quite a few wrinkles on her pale exterior, but that doesn’t mean she can’t still whip up a seriously mean breakfast! Portions are just shamelessly huge. Omelets the size of your liver(you’ll need that, by the way), a mountain of homefries, and other oversized delights. Quality is by no means sacrificed in the name of quantity; I quite enjoy every dish I eat there. Only slights against this place include the location, the heart of downtown New Britain, and the clientele, which isn’t exactly the upper crust. But whaddya expect? It’s good, it’s cheap, it’s food. Give it a shot.

My friend and I stopped here for breakfast. VERY good diner eggs and pancakes! And home fries– Oh, and did we mention that it was cheap? The only deduction would be the very long wait for food — about 20 minutes in a non-busy diner. Then again, there seemed to be only 1 cook.

This is a true diner. There is no better way to sample the population of a town than by it’s diner. This is it. Wait staff is typical. They are that diner-blend of paradoxically polite and rude at the same time. Food is typical. Don’t expect miracles. Just stick to the safe bets like breakfast sandwiches, and may your disappointment be mild. Very affordable! You’re homefries will be fluffy; ask for them«extra well done». You could hear everyone who ordered before us, and everybody ordered them at least«well-done» if not«extra well-done». …and don’t venture into the bathrooms unless it’s an emergency.

EDITED12÷9÷11: lost a star ’cause they just can’t remember to give you everything. Pickles, cole slaw, catsup, creamers and the like went undelivered. Our coffee was cold by the time we got cream. The(wonderful) pickles they serve never came, even after we asked about them. One of the servers(the one who dresses darkly) is just carelessness incarnate. I know, it’s just a diner — but hell, we’ve witnessed lots of attentive, thoughtful diner servers. This is just not cool. Not cool at all. Wake up, kids! Now, our other impressions: A few years ago, we waited interminably here for a very expensive($ 9+ per person for eggs and sausage) breakfast — I recall being annoyed because it wasn’t busy and they. Very recently, I stopped in to get coffees to-go(we’ve stopped going to Dunkin’ and are trying to patronize local, small businesses). What a nice surprise! The place is well-lit. The creepy cook and his cronies are gone. The place has been cleaned up. And the pricing is beyond fair — we wondered out loud how can they make a profit… Best of all, the place is staffed by two young ladies and a gentleman that are pleasant, cheerful and almost overly helpful. They seemed genuinely interested that we feel comfortable and well-attended. Three sit-down visits later, I gotta tell you about this: Eggs arrive very quickly with scrumptious home fries(onions and peppers, no paprika/ketchup). Eggs benedict were very, very good. A later order of poached eggs on toast was granted without hesitation(some diner cooks think poaching an egg is a Federal case). Lunch was the ultimate diner experience. Soups are full of flavor and obviously home-made. Their chili is very good; no beans, rich and meaty — a «cup» is served in a bowl and is only $ 3. The hand-patted burger is redolent of good meat flavor and is served with all the trimmings on a Kaiser roll. It’s huge and was only about $ 5($ 7 with bacon and cheese). Attention to little things makes all the difference here. The tomatoes are ripe and juicy. Salad dressings are better-quality. Coffee is ground from beans and is absolutely delicious! Because of the quality of the ingredients, a simple BLT sandwich became a thing of beauty. The fact that everything’s priced so reasonably is the icing on the cake(pardon the pun) — you’ll probably prefer one of their pies(delicious, well-spiced apple and a pumpkin offering were of the quality we expect at a much costlier establishment). The chocolate cake was cold from the fridge and was a bit dry. Our cheerful servers were a little slow on the draw for coffee on all three visits, other than that, we can’t say enough good things bout them! We wish they’d open 24 hours and give the other local spots a run for their money…

New owners make all the difference. The place is totally clean and very upbeat. Order the«Blue Burger». Everything’s fresh. They use real blue cheese. And don’t forget a piece of pie!

My boyfriend and I stopped in during a 40 minute wait for a bus a year ago. We ordered a slice of cheesecake and two cups of coffee. I don’t know what brand they use but the coffee itself is what got us to return. Fast forward to 3 days ago, we return and sit-in for breakfast. The best thing about this diner are the low prices for the serving size. We always have leftovers and we’re full for up to 6 hours later! We went in today for lunch to try something other than their delicious omelets and coffee. The main waitress Deb chanted«Day 3!!» with a big smile. I ordered a roast beef sandwich(on homemade bread) with a side of soup, and Deb offered a plate of fries instead! Besides the fairly large servings, reasonable pricing and speedy service this is one of the most friendly diners I’ve ever been to. Scratch that, in times like these, this is one of the most friendly customer service establishments I’ve ever been to. If you don’t go to the diner for a delicious cup of coffee or affordable hefty dishes, at least stop by and see what I mean about service. A smile can go a long way.
