It depends on what you are looking for in your accomodation. If you are looking for a good place to have the whole family in the cabin with bare bone basics this is it. They have two queen beds in the two bedroom unit with a kitchen and a double convertible couch in the living area that I suspect is not very comfortable. The beds were ok but not extremely comfortable. The ones who didn’t bring their pillows did not like their pillows at all. Some cabins have a view of the river. Somehow we got that view. They have cable but no tvs… you have to bring your own tv! They have free wifi. They have a big central area in the middle to grill, hang out and play volleyball. You can rent tubes for $ 5.00 and $ 8.00(has a bottom.) It is $ 6.50 for the first shuttle ride and $ 5.00 for each one thereafter. If you only want to go once it is cheaper, but twice is the same as Texas Tubes. We didn’t think any of our silverware, glasses, etc were clean. If you want more than one roll of toliet paper or 6 towels you will have to ask for it. You can get more clean towels by turning in your old ones and getting new ones if you like. If you are looking for updated units this is not it. This units have not been updated in a while. They did throw granite in the kitchen and the bath counters but that does not make the unit upgraded. The baths haven’t been touched. The carpet was a lovely blue to cover up any stains. Personally I think the updated condos are more my style as we didn’t ever get to the playing volleyball. Even if we had this place was sold out.

Great quiet and family friendly place to stay on the Comal River. We have been staying there for over 30 years.

Paid $ 180/night for a shabby room with a smelly toilet. While it had all the basics, it is clearly the location that is supporting the price. Next time, I would stay further from the river and take a shuttle instead. Members of our group in different rooms were kept awake at night by loud neighbors. After complaining to staff, the loud guests were actually told who the source of the complaint was. What secured the two star rating was the checkout experience. There is no key drop, so you are required to wait for the office to open at 9:00. Two young ladies finally arrived at 9:20, but were not apologetic, and did not bother to open the door they unlocked from the inside with a customer standing in front of it.

The positive: very very pretty property! Cute Bavarian style rooms. Very close to EVERYTHING. The negative: $$$$$$$! Everything cost extra… The tubes should be free! If we are paying 200 $ a nite for a room I think that should be included at the very least!!! The shuttle cost 5 $ a person to AND from… CRAZY! If ur pregnant like me the to” part would be too much… The from“is only a few blocks. We had a one bedroom w 2 double beds… Pretty quaint… Not fancy bare necessities. Bring coffee filters folks! Lol. Also the showers are child size and there’s no place for a woman to set her things in the shower and impossible to shave. :)Finally, the staff are not super friendly… After spending 500 $ on 2 days of staying there and renting their tubes I would expect a «thank you» but no… It was kinda like they were doing ME a favor… We will probably go elsewhere next trip…:(… Was hoping to at least be given basic manners.

Been going here over 20 years — management is hospitable, cabins have everything you need, is on the best lil spot on the Comal River possible! You can put a float in at one end, float for 15 – 30 min(depending on how much you paddle) and get out at the other side. The giant oak trees are gorgeous, the picnic area is restful and I’ve never met anyone there who was less than happy with their stay. Just wish they allowed dogs ;)

We’ve been going here for years and never had any problems… until now. We booked a one bedroom for one night this week. We were told that we can get the off season rate and that if during our stay we wanted another night, the room was available at least for now. Great! Then we get a phone call the day before we were to arrive. The woman was very rude and she said we could not recieve the discount because we were only staying one night. I understand thats their policy but why did they say we could. They have already charged my credit card at the discounted rate. So i guess they were hoping to go ahead and charge an extra $ 50! We just cancelled and are now waiting on the refund to go through. Unfortunately that refund is what we’ve saved for a mini trip while my husband is off work so I hope it goes through soon. I will never give them any business again and will be reporting their bait and switch business to the attorney generals office. Very disappointing because weve been renting the big cabins with friends for years so we will have to find«another place»

We come to New Braunfels every summer and love to stay at the other place. The location is ideal and the rooms are always neat and clean.

My family has been going to The Other Place Resort for over 30 years. The staff is friendly and helpful and if you book a reservation every year, they reserve the same room for you the following year. This is not a 5 star hotel, but it’s a great, moderate-priced family place to get away and relax, float the river, barbeque, and watch your kids play in the park. It’s got a nice family vibe that you don’t get at other hotels/resorts. You’ll see entire families, including grandparents, barbecuing outside, playing dominoes or just sitting outside on the lawn that overlooks the Comal River. If you don’t feel like floating the entire Comal River you can get in on one side of the resort and float around to the other side, which is about a 30 minute float. The only bad experience we had was one summer when the Guadalupe River water level was extremely low and all the college age kids were on the Comal.(It wouldn’t have mattered what hotel/resort you were staying in that weekend along the Comal.) They also provide security at night and you can rent tubes there as well. All of the cottages have a kitchenette, living room and dining table(even the motel rooms.) I usually bring a crock pot, float in the river with my family and come back to a nice, home-cooked meal. There are some great restaurants nearby too. My only con about this resort is that the beds are not very comfortable. If you’ve been in the sun all day and you’re tired you don’t notice it too much.
