I’ve taken my sons to this range to shoot my pistol 3 times. It was a good experience. I recall the range personnel and people in the shop being helpful. I recall that if I needed to talk to someone, they were there but if I didn’t, then they just leave you alone. The rules seem reasonable. It wasn’t an uptight experience. It was relaxed and enjoyable.

I went to sight in a new rifle. The guy inside the store was very nice and friendly. Unfortunately, the short, older guy on the range was a jerk. He was very judge mental and rude. The range is not laid well and it’s a little awkward for first timers. I’m a Purple Heart combat vet who has fired a few rounds down range, but this guy was a total jerk when I asked how the range was set up. Needless to say, I won’t be back. I go to the range to enjoy myself, not be talked to like a kid from an overweight old jerk.

Took my daughter out to Dietz just after Christmas, to shoot her new gun. They were pretty darn busy, but all went just fine. The range master was a young fellow, but seemed to know his stuff. All though there was some people were waiting to shoot, they never pressured us to leave so someone else could shoot. No complaints on this place, will go back!

I grew up in New Braunfels. I’ve been to this range a lot. It’s not expensive and you get what you pay for. It’s not fancy but you don’t really need a fancy gun range to target shoot.

So I decided to take my new 1911 out to the range and shoot it. I’ve had dozens of firearms over the last several decades, but with a pistol — I needed a place to shoot it and tried this place out. Finding somewhere to shoot for $ 10 seemed a bargain. Drove up and the operation seemed to be pretty well run. Entered the«store» /«gun shop» and was greeted professionally, but a bit distantly. That’s OK, never know what kind of nimrods show up to start shooting. I was told to check in with the Range Officer. Lots of signs saying not to show up with loaded firearms. Yeah, I get that. Reinforced the danger of a place with uneducated shooters. I had to weave around the trucks to actually get to the range. There’s a parking area for most people. The range officer and his buddies just piled in front of the pistol range behind the gun shack. Your choices were to either weave thru the trucks or go around to where people were shooting. I decided to go the former hoping I wouldn’t scratch one of the blocking vehicles. Crowd of people checked me out when I strolled in. Felt like I was entering someone’s motorcycle club unannounced. No worries. I paid my Hamilton. I asked for the range officer from an older guy who looked like he knew what he was doing. He pointed to a guy who looked like he didn’t. I said I was new to the range and what were the rules. Nothing posted around, so I better ask. That immediately put me into the guy’s dumb ass category and I was promptly treated like a five year old. He went over the rules and they seemed very logical and safe. He then asked to see my gun. After looking at it he asked if I cleaned it first. I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned a new gun before shooting it. Seemed like a practical question, but consumer guns aren’t packed in cosmoline. He asked if he could open it up. I should have said screw you. After he took it partially apart, I realized that in fact he was the dumb ass and couldn’t get it back together and couldn’t figure out how to break it down further. I’m like — what? Trying to prove how smart /educated he was and wound up being a dork. He gave up and took it to the Marine. They came back and the gun had an idiot scratch on the slide stop. You know the one, where if you don’t know what you’re doing and hammer it past plunger tube you scratch the firearm. I’m like WTF? Just because I’m new doesn’t mean I’m a freakin’ idiot like he was. It took a while, but I eventually cooled off and started shooting. After shooting a couple boxes I shot a little too fast. The Range Officer(aka D.H.) came over and said not to shoot too fast. I can clearly remember that wasn’t one of the rules he went over and I have no clue why he had that one. So, I slowed down. He said the same to a couple of other guys later so I wasn’t sure if it was a real rule or his own. No harm off my back. Went to the bathroom. It did the job. Probably cleaned last when Bush was the governor. I didn’t have to sit down, so it was OK. Overall, the range met my needs. And, I’ll probably go back. However, the nimrods that they hire should be avoided at all costs. They have a tough job, but I’m sure they don’t pay for intellect.
