DONOTEATHERE. Went to this place with my girlfriend on a Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy at all. After some discussion, we decided on Hibachi. After being seated we received the Menu and ordered drinks. After getting us the drinks the waiter disappeared. We were completely ignored. After trying to get someone’s attention for about 20 minutes, I went to the bar where the bartender was completely shocked to see me. I asked to pay for the drinks and then comes the waiter who was sitting at the bar enjoying a relaxing break. He told us to forget about the drinks and we left. IFYOUFEELLIKEBEINGIGNOREDTHISISTHEPLACEFORYOU. The service is terrible and the attitude is worse. Do yourself a favor, AVOIDTHISRESTAURANT.

We visited this little Japanese Steakhouse to celebrated my daughters 12th Birthday. She was missing her uncles cooking so we came here. I checked Unilocal and looked at different places and we decided to come here. There was a large party so the wait time of the hibachi table was 3 hours. So we decided to just eat at the sit down portion of the restaurant. At least we know next time we should make reservations. Our waitress Bailey was amazing. She was funny and wonderful. Our 12 year old didn’t want anyone singing Happy Birthday to her and she was letting everyone know. Yet Bailey Brought out a gong and drums and still wished her a happy birthday along with a free tea ice cream. FOOD. (Group of 7) Appetizers We ordered 5 rolls of sushi. They were all perfect, fresh and delicious. The spider roll, rainbow roll, red dragon, eel roll and a California roll. Main Course We were served soup and salad with a creamy ginger dressing. Both was so good. The clear soup was prefect and tasty. The Creamy ginger dress was the perfect topping to the salad. We couldn’t get enough. I ordered the steak and scallops which was all delishhhhhh. My husband ordered the steak and chicken. The chicken was ok. I wish that there was like teriyaki sauce or something with it. Our friends pretty much ordered the same items. My daughter had steak and shrimp. She loved ever bite of it. The white sauce was great just wish they gave us more. All in all the food was amazing, service was wonderful I would want Bailey to service us again. =) Rating 1 star for service 1 star for food 1 star for facilities 1 star overall — star for bathrooms. I didn’t visit. once i visit it and bathrooms are up to par i will update the rating. Thanks Bailey for amazing service!!!

I’ve had better sushi in New Braunfels. I won’t say the name of where but you can probably guess. The sushi is not bad, just not great. The habachi is ok. Good for a show but not worth seeing twice. Ok food shouldn’t be this expensive.

The best sushi I ever had in Texas. All of the staff is amazing and you really can’t go wrong with the sushi. I love the Halloween roll most, but really… you can’t go wrong. Their sashimi salad is the best I’ve ever had.

I have been to Bonzai several times. I have enjoyed their sushi 9x out of 10. Very fresh and flavorful. The bad one was bc it was just falling apart, I guess the rice wasn’t sticky enough or something. Idk. But sushi isn’t easy to eat when it’s just falling apart. I LOVE their seaweed salad. Their hibachi chefs are very, very entertaining. But I wouldn’t order the shrimp. Ever. Whether it’s hibachi, at the table, or to go. The shrimp is ALWAYS over cooked. And over cooked shrimp is just, gross. The steak is usually on point though. I wouldn’t recommend this place for a «special night» but it’s okay to go to from time to time for some quick sushi or some fun.

If I could give zero stars I would. Went to this place to have sushi with my wife and son. It was a nightmare from the beginning. Ordered a Sapporo draft beer — waiter comes back and says out of Sapporo– ask what they had on draft he said he was new and didn’t really know he said«Bud Light» and maybe something else. Took the Sapporo in a bottle. Then looked at menu. Over 100 sushi rolls! How can you read thru all that? We ordered miso soup — served in bowl that was chipped. Of course wondering if the chip at the bottom??? Then Sushi roll come out — ask the waiter which roll it was — he didn’t know — we asked another waiter she didn’t know — then Asked manager and he said he thinks it’s Texas roll??? WTF??? Then The other two rolls came out and NOONE on the wait staff knew what the rolls were! Frustrated we just ate what was on the table — rolls were warm and were mushy and tasteless. For the money felt raped. Terrible experience. WILLNEVERGOBACK! Do yourself a favor go down the street to Panda Express or get a roll from HEB a cross the street — at least they might know the name of the roll! BEWARE. BEWARE. BEWARE!!! YUCK. YUCK. YUCK

Had an enjoyable meal with the family. The place had more people than I’ve ever seen there but things flowed well for us. Everyone enjoyed the chef and his cooking for us. The food was yummy. Everyone left full and with a bit extra for tomorrow. I’d recommend them. Great prices and nice servings.

Just got my long overdue sushi fix here, and it was nothing short of wonderful! They have a large selection of rolls and all the fish seemed to be of great quality. Definitely recommend the 3 stolger roll. And our delicious meal was brought to us by our very friendly and attentive waiter, Will. All the wait staff seemed in high spirits even though it was the end of the night. Oh! And there was live jazz, which is apparently every Tuesday night. It was so great I’m considering going back for lunch again tomorrow!

Delicious food, fun show, and the right price for Father’s Day! Drove up in the rain today from SA and was happy to find short wait for a party of 7. New Braunfels roll was just ok but the filet mignon was deliciously cooked on the hibachi grill! Will definitely go back in the future.

Great food and service ! Tonight i visited with my boyfriend, and we were pleasantly surprised at how great everything was. We have tried multiple other Japanese Steakhouses in the area only to be let down. We sat on the dining side away from the grills and ordered hibachi, everything from the soup to the vegetables was great. Our server I believe who’s name was Katie was so sweet and efficient its hard to come by great service like this. We will most definitely return.

If I could separate stars, 5 for the chef and –5 for the hostess. The chef was excellent, he made our evening special and amazing. The hostess who we dubbed«the yelling woman» absolutely yelled at the other hostess«NONONONONO». It was so loud and unprofessional we had to pick our jaws up off the floor. The entire restaurant silenced. When I went to ask about how much longer the wait would be, I spoke to the yelling woman and said I was shocked that she spoke to her team member that way and even more so another human being that way. All she said was I know? What ever that means. Our other hibachi couple whom we he never met said the same thing that they heard her yelling all over the restaurant. If it weren’t for my mother in laws favorite restaurant and her birthday dinner you can bet that we would have walked right out. But again the chef was delightful

My husband and I just moved to the New Braunfels area and this was the first sit down restaurant we’ve gone to since living here. Must say that we are definitely not disappointed. The staff was hospitable, the food came out lickety split and everything we ordered was delicious. We’ve had calamari at so many places over the years but we agree that Bonsais is the best we’ve ever had.

Food was good and experience was memorable. We sat at the cooking tables and I got the chicken. The rest of my family got the steak. Both were very delicious. Our cooler was very nice and funny. Would definitely be a return.

Food was extremely good. Not over salted as can often happen. Chef was incredibly good with our children. Catered to their individual pickinesses.

4.0STARS!!! No doubt quality food cooked here. The experience is average vs other habashis. Salmon habashi plate is a must!!! They even throw in a couple of shrimp in the veggies! Dinner portions are slightly larger than lunch but lunch prices are more friendly. $ 18 dinner, $ 14 lunch for salmon habashi. The sushi is good but I prefer cooked fish. Their fried rice is nice but lacks lightness due to the amount of oil used. You could always go with white rice though. They NEED to offer BROWNRICE. Their veggies with any habishi plate are fresh and you can request more broccli and carrots or whatever veggies they offer and request less mushrooms or what not. Im not a mushroom fan. The owner is always present. He needs to work on his drum cadence though, it lacks rhythm. You’ll see. Ask him to hit the gong. They have a full bar and play the big games. The habashi grill is a lot of fun for the New Braunfels community although ShoGun just moved into town. Shogun is more expensive and more corporate. They offer two soups, Miso which is a broth with tofu and spinach and they offer a clear broth soup. Both are good. Their salad dressing is great but ask for it on the side because they pack it on. They do have the fried everything bowl that you see at most habashi grills. Ask for the YumYum sauce. On your way out grab a mint. They are the soft kind that melt in your mouth. ENJOY!

I had a fantastic time here, it was literally a laugh fest! Our Hibachi chef couldn’t have been funnier! He kept singing that La Bamba song«Down by the river» and other priceless songs. The food was exceptional, the scallops and steak were cooked to perfection. I believe one thing they need to work on is the salad dressing, it was chunky and the taste was kind of unsettling. The waitstaff was constantly around us filling our drinks and offering polite conversation. Oh and you leave smelling like the grill… but it’s well worth it if you want to be entertained. Just wear nasty clothes or if on a date come in separate cars to avoid smelling like plethora of grilled meats. Enjoy!
