Stopped here on a trip from Tx to Tn, after reading about it online when searching for«restaurants nearby.» Great food, generous portions, great price! Very friendly folks running the place. We got chicken fried steak, chicken spaghetti, mashed potatoes and corn. Also got strawberry cake and chocolate cake(German chocolate, I do believe). My only«negative» in the whole experience was that the only drink offerings were tea and water … neither of which I like, so next time I’ll have to bring my own beverage. Otherwise, good spot for lunch!

Shirley’s is locally famous for being the best lunch in a 50 mile radius. They’re cash only so be prepared for that. They have a variety of HOMEMADE lunch options available daily and EVERYTHING is amazing. HUGE portions. You get a meat with two sides, desert, and drink for about $ 8 with enough leftovers for another meal or split perfectly with your companion. Don’t miss lunch at Shirley’s!

This is not a barbecue restaurant, rather an expansion of Mom’s kitchen. Fare includes chicken fried steak, chicken and dumplings and creamed taco casserole. Sides include green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and the like. Rolls are scratch. Drinks are sweet and unsweet tea. It was crowded. White teeth shown from black faces everywhere on the staff. From a kitchen smaller than that in a luxury home food poured out, steaming and fragrant carried by a sweet black girl on trays. She called out the name on the order as she wove among small, round tables set in a cheap, old house’s former bedrooms. The clinking of silverware on china kept time for a chorus of Texas accents. Some words stood out: ditch, culvert, spreader, fence, tractor. These were ranchers and construction people, salt-of-the-earth types who knew those at the other tables. Polite, respectful people typical of those who work the earth. Why be so descriptive? Because that is what makes this place so special. If you want to feel America, the America that makes everything else work, eat here. For this reason and some purty good grub, this is the place to go. Five stars!!!

I make it a point to eat here every time I’m visiting family in town. The food is very very good. Home-cooking at its best. It’s $ 7 for a full plate with a cup of tea. The seating is very limited and it’s normally fairly loud, but still worth eating here at least once in your life.

You know how… sometimes you just get hongry for some«real food»? My friend says, he has come«unfed». Lunch at Shirley’s can fix that problem… right quick and in a jiffy. Good southern style… better yet… Home style cooking with a great selection of meats and vegetables… roll or cornbread. You can even have a lil dessert for a little extra. Get there early! Atmosphere 0… but who cares… just look at that plate of food!!! Satisfaction? Yes m’am. Besides… you can’t get a squished fast food meal in a bag for the price of a plate lunch at Shirley’s.
