This family run restaurant has authentic Mexican food and epic chocolate flan and tres leche cake. We love supporting(non chain restaurants)

Others have said it and it’s true — this place is no frills. They do greet you immediately when you walk in, so it’s easy to look past the sparse setting. I went here with my husband and my 3-year old daughter. We were bummed to find out we couldn’t order margaritas, but — hey! They have beer. Husband ordered the enchiladas de Maria with pork and I had the enchiladas molé de poblano with shredded beef. We decided to share our plates with our daughter as the kids menu seemed more for slightly older kids(do not bring your gringo kid here as there are no real options for them). We enjoyed the house salsa — traditional restaurant style with no chunks and a nice kick — but decided the chips were heavy and lacking. When our plates came out, they looked simple but appetizing. Their refried beans are chunky style, unlike so many other Mexican places. The rice was fluffy and seasoned. My enchiladas were tasty. The molé sauce is rich and spicy. The meat was tender and the chihuahua(?) cheese on top a nice touch. My husband’s enchiladas were not as great. The sauce on top looked like cream of chicken soup. Maybe that’s traditional Mexican, but he didn’t care for it. He said the pork was right on, though, and our 3-year old agreed. We’ll be back to try other things. Prices are decent and there is a variety of options.

Local flavor It’s a little out of place near Moorland and National with all of the chain places close by. Maria’s seems like a cute family-run business but the food was disappointing overall. It’s a shame, I had hoped this would be a great alternative to Qdboa up the street. The chips seemed like they came from a grocery store and the salsa didn’t wow. I had two pork tostada’s and the pork was overdone and didn’t have any seasoning to it. Their chicken burrito consistent mainly of dark meat.(Isn’t dark meat supposed to be for the kids!?) Our dinners, a little pricey at $ 10.50 with rice and beans, were served on separate places when it all could have fit on one.

I love this place. Unpretentious, great Mexican food, low priced. I usually get enchilada suizza’s, love it. Don’t miss out on flan for dessert. Family run with welcoming no-frills atmosphere. No liquor but try a «Mexican Coke.» It’s the great old recipe, still made in Mexico.

Decent Mexican fare with speedy delivery. The best part is, there is no delivery charge and they have a great online ordering system, the smoothest I have ever used. Perfect for shut-ins or for when you really just don’t feel like interacting with people. The food could be better, but for the convenience, I will likely return again. Enchiladas con tomitillo was pretty good, the burrito was a bit dry and lacking something. The beans and rice that come with each meal were some of the best I have had. That really shouldn’t have been the highlight of the meal, but at least they had that going for them.

We decided to try this place because it was nearby, but were very disappointed. This was seriously some of the worst Mexican food we’ve ever had. The salsa was so bad, I had to stop eating it. When we asked if there was anything else available, the waiter said no, but that he didn’t like it either. The entrees were also bad. The burrito was dry and poorly seasoned, and the enchiladas were equally unappetizing. Another disappointing fact was that there were no margaritas. I hardly ever write a bad review, but I wish we had known before going there. I can easily make better Mexican food at home for cheaper.

Descriptive phrase: no-frills authentic Mexican. More of a 3.5, Maria’s Mexican Restaurant does offer up some of the tastiest Mexican fare in the area at a reasonable price. You’d be forgiven for not knowing it was there, hidden as it is in a tiny strip on a frontage road off National in New Berlin. Inside they’ve tried to make the cafeteria-feel a bit more homey, though it’s still a tad cold. It’s just a large open area with seats and a counter at the back with an exposed grill. The end. I’ve been before for dinner, and recently came for lunch. Chips and salsa are brought to the table. The chips were a little stale and out of a bag, but the salsa had a bit of kick that I like. I ordered the Two Enchiladas de Mole Poblano lunch special($ 8.25). Their menu also features a lot of traditional Mexican dishes you wouldn’t find at Americanized places. After a short wait, a simply-made plate was put in front of me. There’s no pretense here, it’s a main course with rice on one side and beans on the other. But who cares, as long as it’s good? My two tortillas had shredded beef inside, covered in mole sauce and topped with cheese, sour cream, and a tiny bit of onion. It was delicious. Mole was well executed, tangy and sweet. The beef was tender. The rice was a bit dry but went well with the re-fried beans. The lunch special also gets you a can of soda. After that, you get up and pay at the counter. It’s a family-run operation. Maria’s does Mexican well, at a cheap price. If you can appreciate good food without the ambiance, Maria’s should be on your list.

I love that this is a family owned/run business. Any city can use more Mexican food restaurants. We frequent here often and always have a great experience. Authentic Mexican food served up right and at a great price!

It’s always great to see family run restaurants that have a genuine love for the food they make and a true interest in their customer’s dining experience. This is one of those places. Think of a mom and pop ice cream/burger joint that forms their patties from scratch every morning, cuts the french fries by hand, and makes their own confectionary toppings for the ice cream — that’s what Maria’s is like — but with Mexican food. It’s cozy and homey and their homemade hot sauce is crazy good. Tasted to be tomatillo based with jalapeño’s and a few other goodies. I went through an entire saucer myself. I’m thinking about getting a quart and just keeping it in my refrigerator to put on my cereal. Another thing… I was also really surprised at the presentation. Whoever is plating these dishes(i think it’s the mom) has a real talent in creating a stylish dish. She’s got a few colorful squeeze bottles back there that she uses like paintbrushes to adorn your dish. We ordered the shredded beef quesadilla, enchiladas(red), sope, and a few tacos(corn tortillas — 2 steak, 1 pork). I wont go into detail on these dishes. Just know that the food is delicious… And don’t forget the hot sauce.
