It’s become a regular thing coming here probably monthly with friends after work. I always have great service and food. I always recommend the place to friends. They tend to be busy on Friday night’s. I wish they delivered(haha probably good for me they don’t) but they do really well business wise even though they don’t deliver.

Hong Kong Restaurant was an unexpected surprise on a frigid visit to the New Bedford area recently. It’s unassuming from the outside, and located in a small strip mall with a very narrow parking lot(especially with the awfully plowed snow at this time). The décor inside is actually a lot nicer than you would expect. I really like the light fixtures, and I love the Asian art embedded in the tables. We were told the Peking hot and sour soup is «sweeter» than most hot and sour soups, so we decided to pass on that. We elected the wonton soup instead. It was actually quite good, although I didn’t care of the piece of sliced pork in the soup. It was just a little awkward to eat. We enjoyed the shrimp spring rolls, but thought the vegetable lo mein was just alright. It included HUGE chunks of vegetables that were also a bit awkward to eat. I would have preferred smaller pieces, and perhaps a larger variety than mainly snow peas, bok choy, onions, and water chestnuts. Overall, I was satisfied by my meal and Hong Kong Restaurant, but not overly impressed in any way.

Growing up in the North End of New Bedford didn’t really give you a lot of choices for Chinese food. Hong Kong had been the place of choice for my family for many years. As time went on, with newer restaurants opening in the area, I found that simple things like a big boring room(old Hong Kong décor) would keep me away. That has all changed. I found out the old owner sold the business to his nephew and he immediately re-vamped the entire inside. Very clean booths replaced the old table and chairs and the installation of a very nice bar with 2 big screens make it so you can come by and grab a brew and watch the game with some friends or sit down with your family for dinner. The prices are super affordable from what I’ve seen.(other reviews say they are pricey, but that is completely false considering that only 3 items cost more than $ 10). I can honestly say that Hong Kong is my favorite spot in NB for Chinese food. Good food, good service in a clean restaurant. What more can you ask for?!

I have driven by this place a million times and never even gave it a second look until someone said it was really good and I finally tried it and boy was I surprised! pleasantly surprised! You got to try the beef with string beans, the egg foo yong and the fried rice is awesome! In fact it’s become our go to restaurant when we are in the mood for Chinese.

I do maintain the 5 stars for eating at the restaurant and ordering food in house. BUT… Take out at Hong Kong is another story. The last couple of times I got«take out» from Hong Kong it has been disappointing. Last night, when we got home with our bag, the order was incorrect. In fact, there was an extra combination plate in our order that we did not order. I would be okay with that, but my husband did not notice that he paid for that too. The food is put into flimsy styrofoam containers. When Abner walked in the door, the paper bag was leaking. When we opened the containers, the egg foo young gravy had spilled onto the chicken wings. and all over the egg roll resulting in a soggy mess. The same occurred for Abner’s and my daughters general tso chicken. The chicken wings did not taste freshly made. They appeared to have been sitting around a bit. This is the second time ordering take out there that I felt that things might be made ahead of time in the kitchen for take out orders. Hong Kong needs to put as much care into their take out orders as they do for in-restaurant orders. The packaging that is being used needs improvement. If you are going to use paper bags for orders, then your orders with liquid need to be secure. I can only imagine what Abner’s new car looks and smells like this morning after driving home with the leaky mess last night.

We were exhausted from a full on snowboard weekend and need quick eats and a scorpion bowl. Hong Kong fit the bill. The server was super nice. The food was Americanized Chinese, fresh hot and tasty. Best of all, not greasy. Super cheap too. The Volcano Bowl was sweet with 151 in the center. Fun to drink and not too strong.

The food is delicious here, and you get a ton of food for the the price, but saying that the prices here are a little higher than average. Very clean and nice place to eat!

For those of you familiar with new Bedford’s North End, you are likely to know where Hong Kong Restaurant is, for those unfamiliar with the location, it is located diagonally across the street from Pa Raffas, heading North. It is in a small plaza where Acushnet Ave & Ashley Boulevard meet. If you have ever been to Honk Kong Restaurant in the past, say more than four years ago, forget everything you know about the place and stop in and check it out now… From the outside it may not look much different, but everything else have changed, and for the better! Recently renovated, the atmosphere is very nice. tastefully decorated, clean, and friendly wait-staff ready to serve you. Compared to the restaurant’s interior from years ago, I have to say, it is very comfortable and well done. For the past few years, the restaurant has been owned and operated by the nephew of the original owner, and all I can say is that he has definitely taken the place to a whole new level. The current owner, everyone calls Terry, has a genuine passion for his business, and his commitment to the highest quality food and decent portions is obvious to even the most casual observer. I’d consider myself a regular, as I am sure the staff does, but as a regular i can tell you that the one thing that stands out to me is the consistency of the food. The quality, the portions, and for that matter, even the price has not changed a single bit in the few years since the new ownership. There is an unwavering pride of ownership in Terry, and it shows in the cleanliness of his restaurant, and the quality of the food. I highly recommend checking out Hong Kong Restaurant!

Pretty darn good! My favorite is the shrimp with sweet sauce, not sweet and sour sauce, I can’t think of the name off hand. But I end up ordering this a lot. The fried rice is decent, and there’s a good selection of combo plates. The prices are super reasonable, and so are the drinks, and it’s not usually too crowded, except at the bar during sport events, but all in all, it’s always been a go-to place for us. If something isn’t quite right, they are super about taking it back and giving you something else too! We’ve not had a bad waitress yet either.

This place was pretty surprising to me. It’s one of those restaurant’s that when you walk by it, you think it’s probably dirty and no good. But it actually is pretty good. The dining room is pretty descent size, with the typical Chinese restaurant things on the wall. But the funny thing is that the radio in the background is playing country music. So right there, it gives you something to talk about for a few minutes. The menu is pretty good sized. The most biggest price probably has to be Pu Pu Platter(which is really only like eleven dollars). The spare ribs and fried rice is my personal favorite. They taste too good to be true. And you don’t have to wait long either. They’re really is never more than three or four other customers in the restaurant at the same time. So theres only two waitresses. The food comes out in about five or six minutes. I really do recommend this place. It tastes good, and it’s really cheap!
