Not a 5 star in appearance, but the rotisserie chicken and the calamari are incredible. I usually eat there and get a whole chicken to go.

So this place is really tiny but they make the best chicken in the city. Their prices are really good. I have had the shrimp Mozambique and it was delicious with great flavor. The kale soup is yummy too. Overall this place is great, but I prefer to take out rather than eat in just because it’s a really small.

First let me say that I used to LOVE this place, and I hate to have to leave a bad review anywhere, but I was infuriated by the time I left. I work in the industry, so I tend to have more patience, or at least know what is acceptable and what is not. I’ve ordered takeout many times, so I am aware that when you order takeout, the hot sauce is extra. … more and more extra every time we’ve returned. My husband, myself and my baby went in for a quick dinner. I’m not sure if the waitress was new, but she seemed a little bit clueless. We ordered littlenecks TOSTART, and given the fact that I have a baby w me, said not to wait to put our dinner in. I asked to please put in the littlenecks, and our dinners right after. People around us were getting food that came after us, it was about 25 minutes when I finally said something and asked when our littlenecks would be out, the waitress was stressed, and I could tell she told her manager that she forgot to put our order in. The manager said the app would be right out, and I asked what about our dinners, and she began to explain to me what appetizer means. I’M AWAREOFTHEDEFINITION. I told her what i specifically asked for, and she just said ok and walked away. Not an apology from anyone, and that’s what set me off. Like I’m being unreasonable and wanted an appetizer before 30 – 40 minutes. Once she finally brought the app, I asked to just box or food, at this point we’re over an hour and my baby is getting fussy. They were not busy btw. I don’t mind you forgetting something, mistakes happen, but acknowledge them and don’t treat me like I’m the asshole. This is what sent me over the edge. I asked for hot sauce w both meals, and the manager charges me $ 3 pretty much for each one, & when I asked why on earth I was being charged for hot sauce, she said because we were taking it to go! !! We didn’t come in for take out, the only reason we were now taking it to go, is because of their incompetence! !! I was so turned off by the manager, owner, whoever she is, her arrogance and inability to admit a wrong and take care of a patron. … NEVERAGAIN.

I wish there was more room inside. My biggest complaint is trying to tetris all our food onto the table. Prices are good. Food is great. I would drink the sauce with a straw.

Second time here and this time I ordered the rotisserie chicken. It was so dry I couldn’t eat it so when the waitress asked how everything was I said the chickens too dry I don’t want it her reply was«you’re the first person to say that everybody else was fine». She said it with such an attitude I was surprised. I didn’t care if she took it off the check or not I just wanted to let her know that it was not good at all. The fries and rice were excellent as was the cabbage soup I had earlier, but I’m not going back. My wife got the chicken Mozambique and it’s better at M & C café

I frequently go antiquing in New Bedford, and I always make a point of going to this place. Their shrimp mozambique is by far my favorite out of all of the Portuguese restaurants I have gone to. Their portions are extremely generous, and service is always fast. And can I just say, that a please that offers a massive basket of free bread always holds a special place in my heart. I am French, I can’t help it. Yes, this is in a somewhat sketchy part of New Bedford, but it was worth a prostitute eyeballing me and my husband for food like this.

Food was good. Service was crappy. Waitress was short with us, could barely ask a question without her looking annoyed. Didn’t check to see if we needed anything. Didn’t refill my drink. Seems like you have to be Portuguese to get good service. Wouldn’t come back

Amazing food and great service at a very low price. We had both the spiced steak and shrimp Mozambique and both were amazing. As were the circular fries. And beers were only $ 3.50! Note that the restaurant is fairly small and the exterior of the building is the opposite of inviting.

If your reviewing this place for anything other than the chicken your crazy hands down the best chicken I have ever eatin in my life this chicken is off the wall! Now the location interior may be hard to get by even the service is kinda lacking but I am still giving this place a 5 star because you could sit me in a muddy hole and I would still not change my opinion of this chicken. I was a professional chef for 18 years cooked for many many celebrities and I am rating this food because IMO yep reviews get lost in restaurant details u think matter but in the end I just want good food. I should be rating a 4 because of service to be honest but once that chicken arrives it all goes away and not a word is spoken until plates are clean so IMO this is a hidden gem you have to try just one time deal with everything and just hold on to your seat once the chicken arrives!!!

I eat at a lot of places around the state, traveling a lot for work. I thought this place was very special. Reminds me of a place you would walk in off the street to in New York City. I haven’t been to NYC in a while, but I want to say this is even better than that. I love the people that work here. You can see the dedication. Cooks are cooking in the open window and they are the real thing. People work hard here making good food. Our meal for two people great food with drinks cam to under 60 dollars. I had to tip the waitress like the bill would be at every other restaurant, about 100 bucks. It’s a small place. I think that eventually as people catch on more they will expand. I feel like I just saw a band up close that is going to have a hit single and blow up soon. Definitely a gem.

Friendly staff and delicious food. What a find. This little gem of a restaurant is unassuming and takes food very seriously. Excellent sauce accompanies dinner. Apparently it’s a homemade secret recipe. It’s totally awesome! The chicken was deliciously spiced and moist. Everything is delicious-you must try this place.

first off let me say i have been going to this place since 2000. In 2000 i lived right near there so i went often. too bad what has happened. Now the service is awful(if u cant speak port, the service treats u like a dog) the chicken is bettter elsewhere(the spot on bellview is way better now) the side of hot sauce is either .75 or a dollar depnding on how they feel that day the inside is noisy crowded during dinner with the same group in the 1st table i WAS this place back in the day, now its awful. mainly due to the attitude of the owners who treat the customer like dirt. Please go to Averance on bellview way better.

We had a delicious meal here which had a great home-cooked aura. Was impressed by the texture and flavor of the shoestring fries(not greasy with a slight crunch) and the rice(not overcooked or processed). I enjoyed my shrimp Mozambique which was really well-spiced. Husband liked his half barbequed chicken very much too(a deal at $ 7.50 with rice and fries). Our appetizer was the only thing that could have used a bit of improvement: the little necks were a bit overcooked, but the broth was deliciously spicy. We sprang for cappuccinos after dinner and they came out with a decadent amount of whipped cream sprinkled with cinnamon. Such a lovely presentation and, I don’t know if I just hadn’t had whipped cream in a while, but it tasted heavenly. The espresso was delightful as well. Loved it!

It might be a small place but the food is great. Service is fast and the staff is super friendly. The portion sizes are great unlike the cost. Overall this is a phenomenal restaurant. I would eat the food all day.

The rotisserie chicken here is something special. The ambiance is not. I’ve heard good things about other dishes too, but I CRAVE the chicken, and it’s a great alternative to ribs or other BBQ. It’s also very affordable, and excellent for take-out.

I’ve always favored«mom & pop» joints and«hole in the wall» establishments and when living in Boston I used to travel on the weekend to this historic, cultural seaport town to visit an old Marine Corps buddy(who happened to be Cape Verdean). We’d go on quests for local cultural grub(Portuguese, Cape Verdean, Mozambican etc…). Top 3 favorites are Shrimp Mozambique(the butter, garlic, beer and azafran are so flavorful), the paella, and the Piri Piri Chicken(they must import Piri peppers from East Africa). Agghhh, how I miss my Liberty Street crew… Comidé Sabi!

Before I got there, I intended on ordering pork, but when I saw the chickens turning over an open fire, I knew this was the thing to have. The chicken did not disappoint. The rice was bland. The fries were average. There was some orange sauce in a container on the table and it was really good, but a bit spicer than my preference. I used it anyway. There was a long strip of red pepper laid over the rice and it was wonderful tasting. I asked the waitress to find out what kind of pepper it was. She came back and told me that it was just a regular pepper, but the restaurant pickles the peppers(it could be time for a Peter Piper joke here, but I don’t have one). Pickling really does wonders. There are very few tables(11), but they do a big takeout business. The half BBQ chicken is a real deal at $ 6.49. I’m a big eater, but I doubt that I could have finished the whole chicken at $ 10.49. They have a full bar, but I just had lemonade which was fine. Service was great. Went back a second time. This time I had the Calamari appetizer and the«Pork Steaks Portuguese Style» main dish. The Calamari were great and not a bit chewey. They came with a great tasting sauce, but it was on the thin side. I would have liked a thicker sauce to stick better to the meat. The pork also tasted great, but was a hair overcooked. I know I used«great» too many times, but that’s just how I feel. I would give this place 4.5 stars if I could. The portion sizes are really big. Most people will not be able to finish their meal. My wife only ate half of hers and took the rest home.

Don’t be fooled by the generic signage and simple exterior, this little restaurant is a hidden gem. This is a great place to go for a bite after touring the Whaling museum or shopping at one of the seafood shops on the waterfront. This place serves great Portuguese food that is prepared simply and served up with a smile. The restaurant is small, about a ten small tables arranged around a corner bar and an open kitchen that takes up one wall. The kitchen features a rotisserie that is laden with succulent splayed chickens, and two busy cooks that crank out delicious food for the restaurant and a steady stream of take-out customers. We had the roasted chicken, which appears to be the signature dish of this establishment, in fact the waitress mentioned that that is what she would have recommended after we place our order. We ordered two whole chickens for three hungry diners, and walked away absolutely stuffed with about three quarters of a chicken in a take-away. Three sides came with the chicken: delicious rice with green olives, French fries, and some really great Portuguese bread. We washed down this delicious lunch with a carafe of house white wine that was quite good despite the low price. The owners were seated with some friends at a neighboring table, and they were easy to speak to and very entertaining. They were eating rabbit, and sent a plate full of this tasty treat over to our table for us to sample. It was delicious! There was a steady stream of customers, so we were mindful of lingering too long at the end of the meal. The waitress and the owners told us to relax and take our time so we ordered some excellent espresso. The great food, friendly service, and old fashioned TLC delivered by the owners resulted in a one of a kind of dinning experience.
