Cinco de Mayo plus a lovely Spring day calls for a Road Trip and great Mexican food. That is how Hubby and I found ourselves in Nevada, Missouri at Iguana Azul for lunch today. This spacious Mexican themed restaurant situated across from the distinctive County Courthouse on the main town square, has gotten mostly favorable to excellent reviews on Unilocal,so we decided to make it our destination. It lived up to our expectations in every way with so many tempting menu items that the only downside of our visit was having to choose only one entrée each. I went with two flour tortillas wrapped around fresh chopped spinach, onion and spices with a really lovely, flavorful Espinaca over the top. These were accompanied by generous sides of rice, black beans, chopped lettuce and tomato and sour cream. Hubby ordered a Chimichanga filled with tender chunks of grilled beef tips that was served with sides of rice, pinto beans, shredded lettuce, guacamole, chopped tomato and sour cream. Hubby cleaned his plate quickly, while I took a more leisurely approach, sipping a well made house Margarita(16 oz size — although they also have one that is 27 ozs) and using some of the complimentary crunchy corn chips as scoops to be sure I didn’t miss even a morsel of the rice or beans. That reminds me, the salsa served with the chips was very good with a nice cilantro undertone to compliment the slightly chunky texture of the tomatoes. Service was friendly and thoughtful and our entrees arrived so quickly that for just a second I thought we must be getting someone else’s order by mistake. I am often reluctant to give a place five stars on a first visit, but considering our great experience and the number of other 5 star reviews, I am going to say that Iguana Azul is «as good as it gets» and, as for me, I just want another road trip down I-49, sooner rather than later, so I can give some of those other menu items a try.

The food was excellent, the waiter very friendly and the prices reasonable. The portions generous and décor pleasant. The lady at the desk at the door was bordering on surly and the waiter over stretched as it seemed he was the only waiter for the entire place. I would still recommend this place and would eat here again.

Actually as Midwest Mexican food goes, this place ain’t half bad. I come back to Nevada from Texas and get together with friends for dinner about once a year. The group is pretty large so we need a place with big tables — and booze. This place wins by default. Plenty of parking on the square too. Look, if you are used to Tex-Mex or authentic Mexican food this is gonna fall short on the spice, taste meter. If you just want a pretty decent taco and some hefty mix based margaritas then this will fit the bill. Tacos are ground beef and pre-packaged taco shells. But that’s how my Mom made them, so I was good with that. My advice from the menu: I wouldn’t get too fancy with your choices. Just go basic with tacos and enchiladas. It’s a good bet they’ll be something you will like and tastes like what you expect. The salsa verde and other more«complex» dishes I won’t vouch for here. The salsa is nothing to write home about. It’s tomatoey and free and comes with some decent chips. It’s not over priced and the service is attentive and spot on. We usually sit in the bar because you can smoke in there. I couldn’t tell you if the rest of the place is smoke free. The fried ice cream was a nice touch at the end of the meal for my godson.

Not bad Tex-Mex but no spice to the salsa or salt on the chips. The furnishings are a little tired and they allow smoking in the restaurant. Service was a bit inattentive even though there were only about six tables occupied. They did get the entrees put quickly but didn’t refill the salsa.

Good Mexican food in relaxing location right on the downtown main square. Food was great and came out fast and hot. Prices are just right, margarita was about the only disappointment as had a bit of a «pre-mixed» taste to it. Probably because it was pre-mixed… Not a lot of great dining in the fair city of Nevada but the Iguana is in the Top Five, no doubt…

Iguana Azul is a great place to eat. Located on the square in Nevada, there are often events going on and there is plenty of parking on the square and in the private lot behind the restaurant. The staff are very friendly and will seat you when you come into the restaurant. Chips and salsa are served after you are seated, just as you would expect at a Mexican restaurant. The salsa is homemade and one of our favorite things about the restaurant. There are so many great options on the menu. There is a large variety on the lunch menu and the sizes seem to be a little smaller than the dinner sizes, but it is still plenty of food and lunch prices are lower. I love the«Popeye Enchiladas» and«Fajita Enchiladas.» Health tip: substitute black beans for refried beans. They allow you to customize your meal if there is something that you don’t like. Everything that I have tried has been delicious and the prices are pretty reasonable for the large quantity of food that you receive. You will not leave hungry!

Good prices, clean. We loved the pork, shredded & nicely seasoned. Be sure and have it with green sauce, our waiter was happy to bring us extra sauce! Oh yummy, large margaritas!

Still think Iguana Azul is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Need to mention one other dish there that is truly an original and you can’t find at any other restaurant that I know of – Chipotle Fajitas. They are crazy good!

We ate here 2 years ago while visiting my home town area. We were with friends from the area as well as a guest from Detroit and Seattle. We all thought the food was amazing. I don’t remember all the meals we had now. But my husband who can’t remember anything still talks about the food. We were very impressed. Prices also were very reasonable and of course lots of food. Looking forward to eating there again when back in town.

By far one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. Large portions and the price is reasonable. My favorite is the Guadalajara. I Get it every time! Fast service and the waiters are friendly and keep your drink filled. You won’t be disappointed!

The food portions were well worth the price. The food quality was outstanding. The only negative feedback I have is the hispanic waiter/bartender seemed inconvenienced as well as the bus boy. We were very thankful of the service with nothing polite in return. I would see myself returning there in the future.

Food average like most Mexican is. They have the worst tasting margaritas I ever had. Don’t know how they do it. Way overrated.

We found this place by looking at Unilocal and our hotel desk clerk said it was one of her favs. Loved it, service was fast and the food was amazing! Come hungry! Very fair prices as well.
