Let me start off by saying, I was skeptical about a steak venue in Nekoosa, WI, but my husband and I thought — «Let’s give it a try.» Reviews seemed complimentary and we were up for something new in the area. I called one day in advance and asked if reservations were recommended. The person who took my reservation was exceptionally nice. When we arrived, we were seated at the most amazing table, overlooking the lake, with the sunset just beginning. WOW! I didn’t even know a place like this existed and we’ve been coming up to this area for over 10 years! The service was good(a little slow, but they were busy, and I wasn’t in a rush so I didn’t mind). If they weren’t as busy, I might have had an additional glass of wine(if the server had come by more often) but I really didn’t mind. If you’re expecting a Gibsons, this isn’t your place, but if you’re expecting a great steak, exceptionally cooked, without all the bells and whistles, this is perfect. Steaks come with sides(always appreciated) and portions are very generous.(We both had the loaded ribeye.) The ONLY suggestion for improvement I have, is that they should invest in some better plates(larger plates as well).(The plates used seem like family-run breakfast plates.) The main course was almost pouring over the plate(too small a dinner plate). It was almost difficult to cut my steak with so little room on the plate. BUT… all that being said, great experience and we will definitely go back again — the fish fry looked amazing — that’s on the list for next time!

Walked into a bar full of golfers that were a riot. Two bartenders that were professional and prompt. I had called in for a reservation and asked for a table by the front windows. When I checked in I reiterated that request and said that I would wait for one of those tables. Was sat by the back door to the patio where every time the door opened the wind blew stuff off the table. Had Italian Steak bites app that were awesome. Ribeye ordered mr that came out more mw but was delicious. Service was awesome.

I am torn about reviewing the Dirty Oar, the service is great, food is excellent and they have«million dollar views». I’m afraid if more people know about this Wisconsin treasure, I’ll have trouble getting reservations! Soon a championship golf course Sand Valley will be opening near the two top rated courses at Lake Arrowhead and our secret best places to go won’t be a secret anymore. If you find yourself near Rome Wisconsin enjoy a round or two of golf, hit the atv or snowmobile trails, four lakes for water sports and for lunch or dinner a visit to the Dirty Oak is a great way to top it off.

My wife and I came here while visiting our cabin to have a nice night out. The Dirty Oar had only been open a month or so and we wanted to try it out. The hostess greeted us very warmly and asked if we minded waiting a few extra minutes so she could give us a window table to make it more romantic for us. We thought that was a very nice touch. The waitress didn’t seem overly experienced but it was also new so for the time, figured that was annoying but OK. The service was decent though a better than many other places in the area. My wife had the crusted walleye and it was very good. I don’t remember what I had but I do remember it was good and I did try some of my wife’s fish and I thought it was really good as well. The soup I had was very good but wan’t impressed with the dinner rolls. I know that seems like a small thing but I do expect fresh, warm rolls. The rolls seem to be store bought. My Old Fashioned wasn’t good but will try another one next visit before ruling them out for my Old Fashioned. Overall, we were very pleased and will be back. I’d like to see more emphasis on making sure everything is home-made. It takes a little extra time but does really distinguish the restaurant from the rest of the pack. The view was amazing!

Went there for the fish fry but ended up having the pine nut encrusted walleye. It was okay — not what I expected. It was served with ore-ida like box fries(fried good) and a very small portion of sliced green beans and carrots. My spouse did have the fried haddock fish fry and baked potato. Decent. Let me back track. I am very mobility challenged and walk with a cane and the aid of my spouses arm. After getting seated at a table overlooking Petenwell Lake, we were told that this table is reserved(no «reservation» sign on table). I start getting up and its a big to-do for me to get up, a woman comes over and says we don’t have to move. She apologized adding she was in a wheel chair for two years and used crutches for six months. I thought that was classy and a good business decision. Unfortunately, not much else good to say. Our waitress was nice but clueless(okay I know the place recently opened). She said no there was no draft beer. I asked her to skip the Miller line-up and she started with Bud Light. My fault. I should have asked what craft beers were available. We were served two cafeteria style rolls next. She wasn’t sure what kind of fries would be served but said sometimes they serve them sprinkled with parmesean cheese. It was annoying listening to someone play the piano and the television from the bar. This place includes the name supper club in its name but hardly lives up to the definition. A «true» supper club has one go to the bar and a server then approaches you to see how many are in your party. When your table is ready, they come to retrieve you. You are served a relish tray(none here). Ambiance has mega-potential(get rid of old blinds). High prices for the mediocre quality. Menu looks good but QUALITY needs work as well as portion size. The coleslaw served with my spouses fish fry was too small and for the price should have had a salad included. Clam chowder was very good just a bit too much pepper and thyme for my taste.

I wanted to start out by saying the accomplishments these people have made are amazing only being open 2 ½ months. They took it out of foreclosure saving one of our areas most memorable supper clubs. I especially enjoyed the fresh salmon almondine. It was so tender you could tell it was fresh. The homemade cheese cake was sinful. And to dine by sunset and the baby grand piano was a special event for our anniversary. It is a destination spot you will hear more and more of as they continue to upgrade and make The Dirty Oar supper club unforgettable.

I want to start out by stating we were at this resturaunt on 7÷17÷2013 the same time as the 2 star review. First I’d like to say my wife and I are from Colorado Springs and are foodies and love to try new places to eat. Secondly my folks live in Wis Rapids and they suggested this place to us to try since it had recently been revamped. You have a great website promoting your business. My wife and I always research places online before we go there and we were very excited to check this place out, not setting expectations too high becaue we knew you’ve recentely opend and it take a while to get the bugs out. We walked in and saw a great view over the bar area and resturaunt. No musty smell or anything like that at all. We were greeted and sat at a table in the corner overlooking the river. Sun was hot and shining in and they took care of that by lowering the shades and making things comfortable. Everyone was friendly, we met the gal that was the co-owner with her husband and she was very accomodating as was everyone. I guess the funniest thing of the night was that my parents orderd the exact same thing as the couple next to us and all of a sudden after we placed our order about 5 minutes later my parents had ther food! I was like wow that’s efficient! Exactly what my folks orded, but we didn’t have our food yet. Turns out the couple next to us orderd the exact same thing as our parents! Just delivered to the wrong table. :-). Kinks in the kitchen! Our waitress was amazing in taking care of everything and we all had a good laugh! Bottom line is the food here is amazing, the waitstaff and owners care about great food and service and just take care of you. When we get back to WI Rapids, we’ll definitely be back.

a beautiful location on Lake Petenwell that can’t seem to hold(or attract) a consistently good restaurant. Walking into the bar area the first thing that is noticed is the stale/musty/old smell — very little remodeling has been done – there is still a long dining area with glass overlooking and unimproved lake shore — too bad the glass can’t be cleaned to enjoy the view better Had decently made drinks at the bar while looking over a small but pretty standard menu, first impression of large table was too bad that the clean linen table cloth wasn’t ironed Had to ask about any specials – I ordered shrimp/sausage with tortelinni in an alfredo sauce — plate was 3(three) dry shrimp and 3pcs of italian sausage about the size of a quarter on a bed of pasta(not tortelinni-maybe a fusilli) in a light alfredo sauce with green beans on the side Wife ordered pine nut crusted walleye filet with ‘new’ red potatoes — filet was ok – other then lots of bones! The potatoes were hard – even the flavorful melted butter didn’t help much Soup was a veggie chowder that was good and side salad was standard mix with a thick homade blue cheese dressing — buns were standard fresh from the supermarket dinner rolls We were comped a dessert(for boney fish) – it was called Apple Kuchen Hopefully the chef can come up with a combination of entrees that will do justice to the great view
