Many say that mass produced bake goods usually mean massed produced blandness. When it comes to Nickles Bakery’s Maple Twist sweet rolls, I say there is an exception to the rule. Nickles is an old school mass baker of breads and other tasty items with a market area covering Indiana, Ohio, and Western PA. Their products are similar in nature to Hostess, Mrs Freshley’s, Town Talk, and Wonder. When I saw the mail carrier arrive this past Friday, he had a box with him addressed from a relative of mine. Turns out my waxing nostalgic about how Easter was when I was very little prompted a shipment of Nickles Maple Twist sweet rolls to my house. Boy, it is surprising how well a shoebox and a little bubble wrap can keep icing from sticking to cellophane. Size — 16oz… website says 12oz… not true(…one to two servings for me… six for normal people.) Price — $ 3.49(…in my case Free!) Taste — Maple delicious with a hint of cinnamon. These rolls were extremely soft and fresh tasting. Calories — 250 per serving… low considering what it is… but high when you eat all six servings in one sitting. Overall — Now, I may be tainted in my review of this mass producer baker of goods(the Italian bread they make is too soft… but obviously their sweet rolls rock), as the taste I have for these rolls may be more sentimental than good. On the other hand, why care… just enjoy!
