Don’t get tailoring done here. Expensive, and takes forever. They will promise you a date much earlier than that which they actually intend to provide you the tailored clothing you bought and really needed by the date they told you they’d give it to you.

Boom… I was in town for one of the most horrible days of my life and then I realized I left my Sports Jacket back home. Quite frustrated, I could not believe my luck when I discovered this place was actually below the hotel I was staying at. Went right when they opened and the gentleman in there went above and beyond in getting me fitted quick for my needs. All and all a very clean and organized spot with great staff. A sure win on my day down.

I went here with the boyfriend a few months ago to look at blazers, jackets, and suits. We had just gone to the outlets and hadn’t found anything great, plus service was just so so and the quality of most things seems sub par for something he wanted to consider as a lifetime investment(or at least a handful of years). The service here was great, maybe a bit overbearing, but I think the man finally noticed if we wanted to just talk and discuss privately what we thought of the jackets and would leave us alone for a few minutes. The man was really helpful during this time and even showed us what would need tailoring and/or improvements for a better fit. It was great since neither of us had gone seriously suit shopping. The reasons that this place only gets an okay/meh rating despite the good service is for a few main reasons that I’ve tried to distinguish(unfortunately as writing this, I feel like each bullet has more than one reason now)… 1) Tailoring doesn’t match with the customer service. In fact, tailoring was so slow and caused my boyfriend to not be able to use the blazer when he needed it. I guess we thought it would be just as good as the help we had received in the store we decided to give them more business. That was a mistake. The man made it sound like he was doing us a favor by having it done in a week. However, when my boyfriend called a week and a half later, they hadn’t even touched any jacket he had bought.(For starters, why did he have to call a week and a half later? Would they have just taken the purchased items and left them there even though we bought them already and had paid for their tailoring service? I expected a better follow up or continued good service.) They said they would get one of the jackets ready since he explained he needed it in a week and a half. However, a week later, still nothing. In fact the person who picked up the call said that there had been no rush or priority put on his items. So my boyfriend asked for the manager, explained the situation, and demanded that the items be tailored(we had already paid) and then shipped to a closer location since we live in VA but had ventured out to the National Harbor area that weekend. 2) Lack of communication within the brand. So we finally get a call that his blazers have arrived to the VA site. When we get to the store, he tries them on and none have been tailored. We’ve wasted a lot of time now dealing with this issue so by now I don’t want to deal with this store again after this purchase. The manager at this store also doesn’t care and my boyfriend brings out his proof of purchase for the tailoring services. The manager then says there’s no way to fix this here and that it has to be shipped out and will take another week. I am annoyed that the manager didn’t even offer an apology or give a discount for next time shopping or some incentive for us to come again. Well Jos A Banks, we are never coming again. I’m never going to recommend this place to any of my guy friends. 3) Major change of heart in customer service. Suddenly after all these issues, it seemed like we were lousy customers to the staff. My boyfriend had been extremely patient the first two phone calls he made and just explaining the story above, none of the staff seemed helpful or friendly in any of these encounters. I know customer service is hard, but if that’s your job, do it well or at least pretend to put forth the effort. Everyone we encountered after the first visit was rude and very brief with us. It felt like because they already had our money from the purchases, they no longer needed to treat us as a valuable customer.

Visited this branch today and was pleasantly surprised. I met Will who took my measurements and offered sound advice on shoes for work. He also offered to sing at my wedding. He even sang a few notes…:) I also met Bradley(another associate) who was very attentive and pleasant. I parked on a meter and it was running low… guess what… he put change in the meter out of his own pocket. Yep, I bought great clothes. Lastly, my mother came in and Michael(a third associate) said she had a beautiful smile. Great clothes, great employees, and great service!

Pretty typical Banks store. Decent sized store and well stocked. Lots of traditional preppie clothing. Don’t pay full price; wait a few days and it will be on sale.
