He only gets 1 star for getting me in the same day that I was diagnosed with optic nerve swelling. I also had just found out I was pregnant, so my optometrist told him that I did not want my eyes dilated. He came into the room on the defensive from the beginning because I was concerned about getting my eyes dilated. He told me there could be some harm to my baby but if I don’t do the dilation I have to suffer the consequences and may not make it to the end of my pregnancy. It was my choice. I asked him how urgent was this condition– could I wait until next week to have this done so I could think about it? He said, «don’t you see how busy we are? The fact that we got you in today should tell you how urgent this is.» He mentioned again that I could die from this condition but never explained why. This aggressive conversation took place over a mere 3 minutes. I told him that as a vet I’d never be allowed to talk to my clients the way he had talked to me and I went out to call my OB and my husband to drive me home as I had not planned for a ride. Once I decided to do the dilation, he kept me there for 2.5 HOURS! We had to just walk out at the end because we had to pick up our child from day care. When he came back to «explain» his findings which were fairly benign but require monitoring, he got angry with me for asking if a bleeding disorder could cause the micro aneurysm he found. He kept asking me why I wanted to know, so finally I said «medical curiosity» and he actually had the nerve to say «no that’s not why you’re asking.» He was aggressive, inefficient, a complete bully, and as a medical professional I’d say he is completely unintelligent when it comes to adult communication. I do not know how this man has a business.
Also there are about 20 bold faced posters in and around the office stating that if your phone rings OR vibrates while in the room he will send you back to the lobby for punishment and will see someone else and make you wait. That’s the kind of person you’re dealing with if you go to see him.
So if you need a retinal specialist, look elsewhere. My optometrist is already changing her referral practices based on this experience.
