I’ve come to this place a hundred times, it’s always amazing! It’s addictive actually. It’s flavorful, spicy and you won’t even miss the meat! I consider myself somewhat of an Indian food connoisseur and theirs is the most authentic in town hands down! although Sitar and Shalimar are really good too, I think Woodlands has a bigger menu with more street foods, breads, curries and indian-Chinese options. The service is always good. My girlfriends and I have probably taken advantage of their hospitality by staying for way too long and being way too loud but the waitstaff is always courteous and fast. Even when it’s crunk off-the-charts busy as it can often be– they still get the crowd in and out pretty quickly. I highly recommend the lunch buffet especially if you are new to Indian food– they have tons of yummy options and you can figure out your favorites for next time.

Yummy food! Just know that the dishes are already quite spicy, therefor don’t ask for spicy– I asked for my Chana masala to be medium spicy and it was almost inedible… :(but the rest was really great! Yummy food, friendly service, affordable prices for good size portions and an overall great atmosphere !!

Best Indian food in Nashville! I only come for the lunch buffet because it is so good and I get to try Indian dishes I would have not thought to order on the menu. Its a great deal. High quality food and staff! Don’t be discouraged by the location. It is underneath an apartment building, but it has its own separate door so you don’t have to go into the building. There is construction on the building at the moment, but just ignore it! Its all about the food and the inside of the restaurant. You’ll forget about the outside once you get seated.

I read the reviews here, and decided to drive out to this restaurant and try it out. The food is certainly good, like four star good. The variety was interesting. The location was on the main floor of a welfare apartment building. I did not want to go in when I saw the location, but I went with someone who was hungry, and we had driven so far, and he was like«let’s just go». I would never choose to eat here again. I wish the exact same food was in a nicer location.

How does this place not have a perfect 5 stars? Food is amazing, service is excellent, wait time is short. Huge portions. Even my meat-eating friends love this vegetarian restaurant. Hands-down the best Indian food in town.

Started new project steps away from here. So very very very excited. Love all their dosas and they come around serve them with the lunch buffett. They came around 2 times while we were there for 3 days in a row. How I have missed this place. At the moment there is construction, so they will valet your car. We parked, but it does not take that long to get car. As in other reviews, you don’t miss the meat. I actually forgot it was vegetarian. They had fried lentil donuts which are savory and my new best friend and the crispy wafer crackers, forgot the name. Could eat those in my sleep. Had 2 kinds of soup. One just a bit spicier than the other and one a little more tangy. Sumbar and Coconut Tomato. Salad was very fresh and service was amazing. Lunch buffett seems to busy every day. Could not say much about dinner it has been a while since I had dinner here, but the dosas are the very best. Pulov was on the buffett and could have been a little more flavorful, but it was still very good with the soups and vegetable dishes. They had 4 types of bread options and 2 rices.

I came here for the lunch buffet on a weekday with a group of 8. They were easily able to seat us, which was much appreciated(since they don’t take reservations). The food was outstanding. Everything I had was super.(Being that it was a buffet, I don’t remember exactly what I ate). The variety was great. I especially liked that they had food from many different regions, including some Indo-Chinese options. There were options for those of us who wanted spicy and for those who wanted it milder. Prices were totally reasonable. My only complaint was that we didn’t get any naan!

Their lunch buffet is a pretty good deal(only 10 – 11 bucks I think) but they don’t change the buffet menu very often.

I’ve been here several times while passing through Nashville, and the lunch buffet is always excellent. For $ 10, they offer all-you-can-eat delights: multiple entrees and sides, salads, soups, breads, and papadums. Everything is clearly labeled vegan and gluten-free, if applicable(most things were both). Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and not-too-oily. Nothing disappointed. The atmosphere is warm, modern, and inviting. Lunch was very busy, but we had no wait, and they let you grab a plate and get started right away. Waitstaff was great about clearing plates and refilling water, and delivering the check when we were done. I will visit this place every time I’m in the area. It is well worth a stop.

This is my all time favorite Indian restaurant. Ive eaten in a lot of Indian places in many US cities and this one is the best hands down. Its all vegetarian but so good and non-vegetarians will love it also. I suggest the lunch buffet and anything manchurian(gobi, baby corn, etc)! They have south Indian and Indo-Chinese food too which is harder to find.

South indian comfort food at its best, and right across the street from where I live. does it get any better? It’s the only vegetarian place I don’t mind going to. I’m generally a strict non-vegetarian. While their buffets are good and offer a wide spectrum of dishes to sample, I’ve always preferred their ala carte menu. Whether it be the chaats(Indian street food), or south indian staples like dosa, uttapam, etc., you get to sample the best only in the ala carte menu. They make the most awesome Gobi manchurian too, it’s a Indo-chinese fusion dish with fried cauliflowers. I often wonder how many batches of gobi manchurian they prepare everyday, I see it on almost every table, including my own. This time, I however deviated and got another of my favorites — masala uttapam. It’s a semolina based crust with potatoes, onions, chillies etc. — a little greasy for sure, but so yummy and so filling. I simply can’t count how many times I’ve eaten at this place or taken a to-go order. Nothing much to complain here, except the gradually soaring prices over the years, and probably the fact that they’re closed on Mondays. Go ahead and indulge your taste buds, and maybe plan to run a few laps the following day :)

I really wanted to give this place a better review, especially as I am a fan of the Woodlands in Maryland(I’m guessing they are related?, but the same name could also just be a coincidence, not sure). Anyways, I digress… My review is a little slanted because of the table they gave us, I will admit, but I am going trying to be objective and why I’m giving this restaurant 3 starts and not less. The good: — The food. We made it for their lunch buffet, and they had a nice assortment of options from traditional South Indian options(idlis), to more North Indian flavored curry dishes, and even it was nice to see Indo-Chinese choices with my favorite gobimanchurian available. The food was flavorful and we had more than one plate each! — The atmosphere. Well the atmosphere is nice if you are in the main room that has the windows. It’s got a lot of maroon and gives off a dark and cozy vibe, especially on a cold winter January day. The bad: — Service was not horrible but there were a few people(particularly the host) who were less friendly than others. Some of the waiters were very nice and helpful though. The host was abrupt and did not make us feel welcome. — The atmosphere. If you are seated at a table in the back area(a.k.a. «the reject room!»), it’s décor has a lot to be desired and it’s about 15 degrees colder than the rest of the restaurant. We were seated at a table in this reject room. When we got to Woodlands, we were told there would be a wait, and sat in the lobby for about 15 minutes before they gave us a table. Well when they called us, they also called a group of 3, who had just walked in!, at the same time, to seat all of us. They seated us in the back cold area(a bigger table too I might add, and it was just me and my friend) and then they sat the group of 3 at a really nice cozy window table. We were very cold and I asked a waiter if we could get a window table when I noticed one open up. I was told that that particular table had a reservation, and the answer was no. I guess I am harping on this because the freezing temperature in the reject room, tarnished the experience. I really wish they had seated us, the smaller party, at the smaller window table, but instead, they seated us the way they did. Still, despite the table saga, I will recommend Woodlands and just encourage you, if you are sensitive to cold, and appreciate having natural light like I am/do!, to ask for a table in the main area, for better ambiance. Fortunately the food won’t disappoint.

This is the absolute best in Indian cuisine. My family and I came here for the lunch buffet and were not disappointed. They are constantly rotating the dishes in the buffet so you get a vast variety every time you visit. The mango lassi is bar none the best I’ve ever had, cooling and sweet to cut the perfectly balanced heat of the dishes. It was very crowded and a little claustrophobic, but fit with the bohemian vibe. There were signs that said«stop eating animals» and«take only what you can eat– please don’t waste food» — I really appreciated that they’re conscious of those things here. A high percentage of Indian patrons meant that it’s probably safe to say this is really authentic and really GOOD Indian cuisine even by their standards. It was very inexpensive and I will definitely be back to visit, maybe for a dinner experience next time!

Delicious and healthy food. We went here on Christmas and the restaurant was packed! I have been here for the buffet(which was good too) but really loved the ordering food. I got the coconut curry which you can vary the spicy level depending on your taste(I chose mild spicy and felt that was just right for me to taste the spice and not spit fire later). The curry was in the right portion and very flavorful! My husband got the paper masala which is a kind of crêpe with different dipping sauce — let me tell you that the crêpe is amazing and HUGE! Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here and would def come back more often in the future.

I’ll be the first to say I’m not too knowledge about what certain dishes are. I know tikka masala, naan, samosa chaat & those lovely Gulab Jamun balls. This is a place where you don’t have to know what every dish is. Everything here is vegetarian. Even if you’re a meat eater, you’ll love the food. With it being a buffet, you can try a little of this & a little of that. The staff is very fast & usually always close by. The cashier guy isn’t the friendliest, but fast. Woodlands is always busy at lunch time. I’ve never been for dinner. The buffet is always stocked with hot, fresh food. I wished the buffet was in a larger area. Two of the hot tables back up to each other & it’s always kind of stressful figuring out which way the flow of traffic is going. The servers bring out a dosa, I think one for each person. The downside — PARKING. You were able to park in the back of the building, but they’re doing renovations to the condos above. I’m not sure where the residents are parking but you have to pick from the small lot up front. It was bad to park before the construction & now it’s worse. They advertise free valet parking for woodlands, but we’d rather hunt for a spot. The valet there also just park in the lot, so you’ve got to contend with them. We got lucky & found a spot in the lot about after five minutes.

Review for Indians: You will miss the authentic taste of the motherland, but if you are in dire need of eating rawa dosa then this is the best place in town to go. Review for others: I have been to woodlands many times. The times I went with a ‘cross-cultural’ group, people really appreciated Indian food at woodland especially the Masala Tea and Mango Lassi. Among the Indian restaurant in Nashville, woodlands proudly stands at third place on my list.

I came here with a friend for their buffet lunch special. While I wouldn’t recommend it for an early brunch, it’s the perfect level of spice and seasoning for the knowledgeable palate. Not only do you have your choice of curries, chutneys, and assorted salads, but everything is vegetarian. I personally always make a beeline for the naan and other breads once they come out from the kitchen. Their desserts are also quite marvelous, pastry in syrup and something citrus delectably coconut soaked. I recommend coming here at about 11am on the weekend, or risk fighting off the hungry masses. Though they have plenty of seating, it can be quite difficult to get a seat once half of Nashville comes in to enjoy the amazing lunch buffet. The location is a bit difficult to find, especially since the front façade is under construction. Also, they have complimentary valet service, but it’s relatively unnecessary considering you park in front of the hotel/restaurant.(Take this from someone who parked, realized there was free valet, pulled out in front only to have them re-park in the same exact spot. Sigh.) Delicious food, great service, decent price. I’m definitely heading back.

Hands down the best Indian vegetarian restaurant in USA! It should be considered a must visit place in Nashville for all lovers of Vegetarian or Indian cuisine. Especially south Indian cuisine. I have been here a few times and sometimes rushed before they close to eat at their lunch buffet. They have almost all dishes you can ask for from South Indian Cuisine. All of them are delicious without any exaggerated spices or condiments. Seating arrangement and ambiance is nice compared to most Indian restaurants. You will find many locals eating there and place is almost always full. The reason why Woodlands is so good is because they don’t compromise on the taste to suite american palates. There are no numbered spice levels(at least at buffet table) and there are no special changes made to suite local diet habits. South Indian cuisine is usually mild compared to North Indian and that works at their advantage. I would strongly recommend this place for some authentic South Indian Cuisine, vegetarian food or Indian food.

I’ve tried the lunch buffet(11am — 2:30pm Tues — Fri) a few times now and it’s been very consistently tasty. A few dishes rotate so it’s never exactly the same, but there is plenty of variety. I am a total heat wimp, so I am basically chugging water(thankfully they are prompt with the refills!) and eating bread to help me get through, but it’s still delicious. I wish there were a few mild options on the buffet, but that’s my problem, not theirs. It’s vegetarian, but you don’t really miss the meat — I agree with their«best place to trick carnivores into eating vegetarian» distinction. The service is always quick, and since it’s a buffet you can be out of there pretty quickly if you’re on a tight lunch break. Due to the somewhat odd location, parking can be a little tricky when it’s busy, but there’s free valet if needed. Under $ 10 for a quick, filling, tasty meal. Yes, please.

Voted Best of Nashville for a reason! I’m vegan so this is a place I like to visit frequently. I’m not someone who could tell you how authentic something is, but I can tell you that everything I’ve had the pleasure of stuffing my face here with was delicious! Bring a friend and enjoy the giant silverware on the walls as decoration. The buffet is pretty great too! Try the naan!
