Great family food. The restaurant special is a meat with three vegatables. Cuisine reminds Me of Cracker Barrel with bigger servings.

Wendell Smiths has the best fried corn on earth. This is one of the two great meat n threes in Music City.

This place should transform. It should become bleeding edge quick and make ol’ Wendell a billion dollars. As it is, it’s fine. There’s a local butcher up the street. There’s a local produce place around the corner. Unless Nashville liquor and beer laws become not-Byzantine sometime soon, that means this liquor store is set up to take extreme advantage of their real-estate and established supply chains. Steal a manager from the Filling Station or Craft Brewed. Get some taps inside and put in a patio and a bike-rack. Wait until the hipster come with their money. And they will come. If you brew it, they will come. For now, you can find a handful of alright beers, some«fine» wine, and an awesomely HUGE selection of moonshine(build on this to set yourself apart Wendell’s!). This location and this liquor license could make bank and be sweet. In particular, I think Wendell’s is uniquely positioned to be inter-class and multi-ethnic. Imagine Nashville hipsters getting their beer at a place where payday checks get cashed! Wouldn’t that be like the old East Nasty? Only you can make it happen, manger’s of Wendell’s. Only you. This whole review is trademarked, so you owe me 10% of the profits when this becomes reality.

I love the unique look of this place from the outside — very retro classic. Helpful staff. There’s also another adjoining market where you can purchase beers, soda’s, ice, etc. Great fit for the neighborhood & easy to make it in & out, quickly.

This is my favorite neighborhood liquor store. They don’t have a wide variety of wines but the liquor is plentiful. The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. They’ve assisted me in picking out gifts of whiskey(which I don’t know the first thing about) and been very gracious when I couldn’t find something that was obviously in front of my face. There is a fridge where things are chilled but mostly they are at room temperature. I’ve found a very cheap vodka(the name escapes me now, something like Country Club), $ 8.99 for a liter and they’ve got lots of girly flavors. Prices seem very similar to those of liquor stores in the area.

You’re much better off at Wendell’s if you’re a whiskey drinker or if you need a check cashed in a jiffy. If you’re a wine drinker, like me, you go in to pick up something quick and cheap. They do have a bargain $ 5.49 wine bin at the front with some pretty reasonable stuff. In the fridge in the back, there are a few more expensive good selections too. I like Wendell’s though for its down-to-earthiness. The father and daughter team who run the store are always friendly and are only too happy to share tips on the best deals and new arrivals with you. I take pride in supporting those businesses on Charlotte Pike who have weathered out the past fifty years or so and are now dealing with the gentrification of Sylvan Park. Hopefully they’ll be around for fifty more.
