If you’re into Asian antiques, you should definitely stop by The Silk Road. The array of porcelain and ceramic bowls, vases, plates, lamps, figurines, sculptures, urns, and teapots here is like nothing I’ve seen before. They offer genuine antiques(including a one-hundred year-old teapot!) as well as reproductions. The least expensive item in the store was a small $ 12 animal figurine, while one of the more expensive items was an $ 1,800 set of two beautifully shaped and painted ceramic urns. I’ve never really gotten to contemplate a collection of Asian art before, so even though The Silk road is generally way beyond by budget, I enjoyed looking around. The staff member sitting at his desk in the back of the store smiled and called out«Come look around!» when I entered the store, but otherwise let me be.

This place should be called«Porcelain City.» Virtually the only things I spotted in The Silk Road were countless porcelain pots, jars and figurines. It’s a relatively sizable place with shelves and shelves full of genuinely old items from China and other Far Eastern areas. I only spent a few minutes here, but I didn’t see any staff at all… not that assistance would be too necessary, however. All the items are labeled clearly with a price, description, age and often the period from which they came(dynasties, et cetera). They also have some very cool lamps, but most of their items are bowls, vases and urns. A lot of the items at The Silk Road are beautifully hand crafted and painted, and even if some of them aren’t as old as they appear, they’re very authentic. I get the impression they don’t get a whole lot of business(probably because they have an online store). I’d recommend going in to inspect any items you are thinking of purchasing.
