I signed up for Class Pass, and the very first class I reserved was the Pure Strength Pilates class on Saturday at 10AM. Unbeknownst to me, this is the most advanced class they offer. Oh man, it was tough. I was definitely not physically prepared for what I got into, but the instructor, David was incredibly helpful and encouraging. He didn’t push me beyond my limit, but challenged me. He showed me how to do each of the exercises correctly and even brought me a bottle of water. I am signed up to go to a beginner’s class on Monday, and I am definitely looking forward to it. Doing Pilates on a machine is very different than doing it on a plain old mat(the only way I had ever done it prior to this experience), and it’s also kinda fun. Challenging, but fun. I would definitely recommend this Pilates studio. I regret that Class Pass only allows me to come here 3 times a month. I would definitely go more if possible.

Phenomenal. Came here while traveling for work. Interior is beautiful, high ceilings, airy, and the class was unbelievable. Hardest beginner reformer class I’ve ever taken(more like an advanced where I come from, I’ve been doing mat/tower for 10 years), but he modified it without being patronizing. Great workout!

I love this place, David is the best! Hard core but the best. If you want a work out and really feel like you’re getting a work out go see him. All the instructors are great.

One word. David. This is my absolutely favorite place for pilates. It is absolutely beautiful and the classes are INTENSE. I’m absolutely sure David does not know what the definition of a beginner class is. Ive been to pretty much all the pilates studios in Nashville and I can 100% say his class is the toughest. But it also has the best results. All his classes look like a scene out of 50 shades of grey— you sometimes find your ankles hanging over your head while your strapped in a moving contraption. Well whatever it takes to get that Nashville Ballet Ballerina body right. Oh yeah this is where they train. Amenities: Changing room– no showers Parking: There is some in the lot that is dedicated to Simply Balanced. However, not hard to find parking in the lot out back. PLUS you are walking distance to Arnolds Country kitchen.

As a 22-year veteran in the exercise field, I am not easily impressed. I can say with 100% confidence that the teachers at Simply Balanced are as good as it gets. I recommend Pilates as a method of exercise, and I HIGHLY recommend Simply Balanced for your Pilates instruction in Nashville. –Dan DeFigio, owner of and

I’ve been doing pilates for 14 years based in Hong Kong and travel extensively and always seek out local pilates and gyrotonic studios, I’m impressed I did the introduction ‘beginners’ class expecting slow and relaxed but the intensity was slightly above intermediate level which suited me, it was a great workout and I got to learn some new moves that got me breaking out in a sweat. The studio itself is urban rustic modern industrial … Free bottles of water … Everyone was really friendly and the owner even made an effort to introduce me to the nearest place that does gyrotonics . If I lived in Nashville I would come here again and do all the classes and get some privates, the studio is fully equipped with all the PILATES machines that are on offer.

As a Pilates Instructor myself(I live and work in San Francisco) my standards and expectations for Pilates studios are very high. I was looking for the very best Pilates instructors in Nashville to work with my mom and I found exactly what I was looking for at Simply Balanced. My first conversation was with David Gensheimer, the studio owner. He was very professional and friendly over the phone. I reviewed my mom’s physical history and orthopedic concerns with David and he reassured me that my mom would be in very capable hands. He arranged a session between my mom and Jennifer McNamara in Aug 2013. Of course, I checked in with my mom regularly to see how things were going with Jennifer. At first, the exercises were difficult for my mom, which I expected, but she enjoyed it nonetheless so she continued. My mom explained to me how Jennifer checks in with her before each session and if necessary, they work together to address any particular concerns. This was music to my ears. Regarding the studio and the rest of the staff, although I’ve never been there, my mom has mentioned that everyone is very friendly and she thoroughly enjoys working in the private studio space. I finally saw my mom in Dec 2013 which was the first time I’ve seen her since she began Pilates, about 4 months prior. I was very impressed with her progress! I immediately noticed a huge improvement in my mom’s posture; she was also much stronger and feeling much better than she has in a very long time. Although this is not the most convenient location for my mom(she lives about ½ hour from the studio), I am so grateful that we found this place. My only regret is that I did not find David and Jennifer earlier. My mom continues to take weekly private Pilates sessions with Jennifer and that makes me very happy because I know that she is investing in her long term health and that she is in very good hands! Thank you Simply Balanced!

Nothing special from the outside, but a beautiful studio inside with fantastic teachers. Lots of interesting classes to choose from and they provide the mats, bands, balls etc. Oh, and it’s a killer workout!

The location is central and convenient, the staff is very helpful, and the facility itself is very, very nice. My main complaint is with the schedule and class availability. I bought the Groupon, which limited the type of classes I could take(only Mat Classes), and because of my own schedule restraints(I’m a professor and am in my office all day during the week and I volunteer on my weekends) and what I see as SB’s limited classes, I won’t be able use up my all of my classes before they expire. That’s really disappointing. Also, their«Late Cancel» policy is kind of crazy… I had to cancel a class I’d signed up for online over 2 hours in advance, and I could only get the«Late Cancel» option. That’s a class down the drain! This is just to caution you… before you buy a package, make sure you can actually get to their classes before your package expires.

Love the team at Simply Balanced! David, Jennifer and Alessandra are incredibly knowledgeable. Whether you are a beginner or experienced in Pilates, they work with you to make sure you are getting the most benefit from your workout. I’m on class 21 and I’ve never felt stronger or better. I’m in the best shape of my life. The studio is beautiful and a great way to start or end your day.

I am a big fan of Simply Balanced. A coworker of mine comes here often and recommended I give the Pilates classes a try. I’m so glad I did! Location: I love the location, just north of Wedgewood on 8th Avenue. I am moving to 12South next month and this studio will only be 3 minutes from my new house. Super convenient! Pilates: I have been taking the 8am Saturday beginner Pilates reformer class. It’s early, but it’s great to have a workout in before 9am! The class has been very good. After the first class I was pretty sore and I was thankful for that. I haven’t really been sore since my initial class; I’m not sure if that means I need to move on to the intermediate class or if I just workout enough during the week that I don’t get sore from Pilates anymore. The instructor is great. She’s very patient and customizes moves for people in the class to accommodate injuries and other issues. For example, I am pregnant and told her at 10 weeks after we did some stomach moves that day. Since then she has adjusted my workout so when other members are laying on their stomachs, I sit on my knees and still get to work on the same muscles. Customer Service: 5 stars! 100% the best customer service I’ve experienced in Nashville. I had a massage appointment one Saturday after Pilates and the masseuse never showed up. It turned out to be a big miscommunication on their part, but the owner called me personally to apologize and give me a free massage and a free pilates class! While I was disappointed about the missed appointment, the way David handled it was stellar. It made all the difference in the world! Facilities: Pretty nice. The women’s bathroom has a shower and a place for you to clean up after class. The Pilates reformers are a little too close together for me. If you are doing leg circles you have to time it so your legs are out while the person’s next to are in. It’s a minor inconvenience but I’ve never taken Pilates somewhere where this is an issue before. The lobby is open and welcoming. And I love that you get a free bottle of water to enjoy during your class! They’ve thought of almost everything to make your experience amazing. Online: I use their website very often. I used it to buy my classes(a package of 10 Pilates classes) and I use it to reserve a spot in my class. Very convenient.

A little update: A friend and I tried another class with more of a yoga slant taught by David. I’d say the first 20 minutes of class were bum busting pilates followed about 40 minutes of fast paced flow yoga. If you love planks — you will love David ;) Luckily I could laugh after his class, but its a good thing I didn’t need to move my arms 360 degrees for a few days! Friendly staff!
