It was below a meh for me… the address we went to was 5437 Nolensville Pike, and I doubt there’s another 14 blocks down as I would have driven by it… but who knows. We got a coupon that said basically it was 12 buffet bars. When I got there I counted 6. Neon signs were dead or faded out. As a veggie there were more limited than usual options for me, and what I did have was not that good… We were seated at the only table with food spilled in the seat in the area we were seated at. No huge deal, I spotted it and chucked it. The lo mein, it was good, the rice should have been good but something was missing. The spring rolls failed — no taste, just coldish grease. I tried a buffet pizza(always bad, I know) and it was stale… tasted a bit like it had been reheated for a couple of days or freezer burnt… eh… The veggies looked sad… they had sushi but it was dry looking. I’ve hated restaurants before and not wanted to eat the food, but this was not the case here… I just was totally not wanting to eat the food. I wish we’d have gone with my gut and left when we walked in. I’ve got to point out — the service was good. The food was not… it was dry, tasteless, old on the buffet. I think there were 5 people besides us there. The place was dead at 7ish. Tried to pay, was told they didn’t take amex… no issue. gave the visa, was told the credit card machine was down. ok, kind of an issue. paid in cash and got back just enough to leave either an insulting tip or way too much… pooled money to leave a slightly non-insulting tip. Hours later, nastiest stomach churning badness I’ve ever been privy to. Not from me. I just felt uneasy the rest of the night. Man, I hope they’re better at earlier hours… I know a buffet that size having fewer than 10 people in there they can’t stock fresh everything, but man… I love me some buffets… this is the first one I ever actually disliked… and it’s sad because I think this used to be the one I really liked before at a different location.

Note: This place is now located further down Nolensville Road, just before OHB in a strip mall. Where to start? I’m glad this place was 4 stars in 2007 – 2008 but it must have gone drastically down hill. Granted we were there about 7:30 on a Thursday, but everything was low, all the food looked dried and crusty. It was basically my worst buffet nightmare and I am not a picky girl! It makes the new HIbachi Grill and Supreme Buffet just up the road look like 5 star dining straight from Hong Kong! Giving them the bennie of the doubt I tried a few typical dishes, chicken and broccoli — cold and rubbery. ‘Thai’ chicken — hard as a rock. Crab Rangoons and a teeny spring roll — obviously from a freezer, also lukewarm. Seafood Delight — salty and freezer burnt, barely room temperature. Basically I had to fill up on two cups of Hot and Sour soup, which was passable, but also, as you may be able to guess — barely room temp. When I got tired of soup I tried out the salad bar. The bar contained: huge pieces of browning iceberg, tomatoes with an icy coating, cucumbers and cheese — along with a few sauces. I piled on some cheese for filling protein and it was BAD! So sick, I had to spit it in my napkin and apologize to my dining companions. They did have sushi and oysters, but with the condition of the rest of the food telling — I did not take my life into my hands by trying it. The service was okay, the waitress checked on our drinks twice, but when the check came the credit card machine was broken. Luckily the husband had received cash from a commercial shoot he and his bike did earlier that day, but looking back we should have just told them we didn’t have any cash. Mean? Yes, but so was serving this slop to paying customers.

I have no idea what I was doing driving so far south on Nolensville pike, but I ended up near the Harding mall and stopped at New Country Buffet. I must say, I was not expecting much from this place! However, the buffet was pretty good and it seemed relatively clean and neat inside(always important when stopping at a road side all you can eat buffet). It featured an eclectic mix of southern food, some Asian, and desert. The southern style fried chicken was actually pretty good, but the mashed potatoes were definitely not real. The brown gravy was also not very tasty. It was pretty funny to see that they offered stir fry veggies and General Taos’ style chicken. I didn’t try it, for fear that my stomach would punish me later. It is tough to complain about the food when for two people, the buffet was only twelve dollars!

Perhaps the best buffet south Nashville. I like to wistfully think of the Nolensville Road area as our«Avenue of the Americas.» Our muslim brothers, our mexican visitors, africans, asians and anglos all live here peacefully together, most of the time. This buffet is also an unhomogenic blend of many influences, especially asian and hispanic.
