My friends and I have been here quite a few times for karaōke and have had a good time. We had let slide, the bartender being rude to us a few times cause we had fun while we were here but it’s gotten out of hand. Last night, the bartender actually told my friend that«if he didn’t tip her, she wasn’t going to serve him», but this was when he went and ordered his first drink. She eventually started telling everyone at the bar that we weren’t tipping her(even though I had already left her a dollar for each beer I had). I went up to pay my last tab and heard everyone around me talking about one of the guys I was with, talking about he wasn’t going to get any more beer. He wasn’t even drunk. Next thing I knew, we were being recorded on someone’s phone while he called us «non tipping mother fu*kers». I went and said something to them and the girl got up and was arguing with me. Then the guy who works there, threw me in a choke hold(keep in mind I’m 5’2). I ended up punching a guy who told me «I was a dead motherfu*cker», then I was grabbed by the throat, again, by the guy who works there and escorted out. Needless to say, My friends and I will never be back to this bar. I don’t know how they are able to have such rude service.

Joe’s place is OUR place! It rocks. WE love it and have made it our place to go with our group of friends. They have awesome Karaōke! We used to come on Saturday nights and sing all night long! It’s spacious… they always have sports on the tv’s, and it’s a great atmosphere to just hang out, sing, and drink! Not pretentious at all! Like some places in Green Hills can be… We LOVE Joe’s Place!

As a fan of dive bars I’ve been to my fair share of questionable establishments. Joe’s, unfortunately, leaves a lot to be desired. Coming through on a Friday night with some friends, we had a pretty good time but I was surprised to see the place pretty slow even into the late night hours. The drink prices were normal but you expect a little bit more value at a place that has such little overhead costs. Karaōke was to be expected and there was plenty to laugh at while we were there. The space itself is pretty small and uncomfortable to move around in. Fixture planning obviously wasn’t in the strategic plan for the owners. In general, this bar is simply OK. You would be better off walking down the road to the Crowe’s Nest or finding a dive bar downtown with a little more spirit. What hurts this bar the most is its location in Green Hills where — it would be safe to say — most people don’t go to dive bars for their kicks.

So I officially started my vacation today(yay!), but had to spend the first afternoon of it at the dentist(boo). I figured to treat myself as compensation I would go have a long lunch a couple beers on a patio. I found myself at Joe’s Place for the first time, and am very glad I did. The service was excellent, even with just the bartender running the whole place. My $ 5 lunch special pizza was far from gourmet, but it was large enough for two and there were lots of topping options. The side salad was enormous, and more than just a pile of iceberg. The patio was completely shaded, and off the street — ideal for a too sunny afternoon. The part that put it over the top was the customer service and welcoming atmosphere. Besides the bartender/server I mentioned, the guy at the smoker(Bill?) when he found out I was spending the first hour at my vacation at Joe’s, bought me my next beer. How surprisingly nice! All in all, a great experience, and I will definitely be back. I recommend you bring a friend, split lunch and a side or app, and both of you can get out of the place with a filling meal and even with a beer and tip for under $ 10 a piece! Oh, I almost forgot, the music selection was a major plus: old blues and and country. Loved it!

Smallish place, decent beer specials, haven’t tried the food. You can smoke here, and there is a patio out back. Bartenders are very friendly and often adorable. Wifi is fantastic. Free, and I got 18MB down, and 5MB up. ++ Sprint’s 4G service is great here too(with MiFi unit on window ledge). I measured the highest rates I have anywhere in Nashville so far, 11MB down, and 1MB up. ++ Great place to grab a beer and finish up some work.

DINGDINGDINGDING! We have a winner as a dive(or divey at least) bar in Green Hills and it is Joe’s Place. I won’t go about calling out the others that have written reviews here. Suffice to say it seems they are all pretty old and perhaps had some beef with this place or just don’t like dive bars. I do like dive bars and I’m here to tell you what was good about this place. First off, large bar to your left as soon as you walk in. Huge U shape so more corners and space to sit around it. The lady behind the bar was on top of it — she had our drinks coming without having to ask. And spotted us some cash for the ciggy machine as long as we tipped it back to her on our tip. Nice! Yes you can smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. So if you don’t like that I suggest you not even think about coming here. Apparently they have food but we had already eaten at Nero’s and were too full to consider that. There’s darts in the back and a patio in the very back. There are TVs throughout so you can watch the game. There’s also a stage and when I walked in I saw it, the best thing I’ve seen in a while. Yes, it was a lady sitting beside the stage with a computer. And two microphones and a monitor on stage. KARAOKE! Finally, a dive with karaōke! And do not be scared to sing whatever song you want, curse words and all, because they do not care. Thank goodness too since Fuck Her Gently is the BF’s fave karaōke jam. The patrons were of all ages — group of frat boy looking types playing darts and getting rowdy, groups of older people listening to karaōke and getting rowdy. So you will fit in no matter who you are. So others can hate but give Joe’s a chance. Definitely more divey than other places in Green Hills, so come here when you are not feeling the see and be seen places and get down and dirty to some karaōke, some liquor, and some cigarette smoke!

Joe’s Place makes their living on being the red-headed stepchild of Greenhouse and Crow’s Nest. Monday night trivia is tolerable/fun with the right people in the place. The staff there is fine; not awful but certainly could be more attentive at times. Smokers paradise for sure. Plastic dart machine makes for some fun if it isn’t packed. All-in-all, it’s a fine place to go for drinks when you just want to hang out and not go to Lime or the Standard or somewhere similar.

As a fellow service industry employee, I enjoy heading out for a drink after a long night of servicing others. I was excited to see new places open up in the Green Hills area considering I work in the vicinity. I had been frequenting Joe’s until recently when 100% of the staff were fired and replaced with sloth like, unattentive women. At first dealing with the loud covers and the obnoxiously loud juke box was something i could do without; now a good bartender is in order in this place. There is also a young gentleman that seems to either be a barback or manager who has the worst attitude and most unfriendly disposition ever. Very sad to no longer be enjoying Joe’s.

The Health Department requires you to be 21 or over to enter, since this bar allows smoking. Plenty of TVs to watch races, baseball, football and basketball, but you may have to wash your hair if you don’t want your healthy friends to run off. Sometimes musicians not worried about the smoke perform here although many singers prefer the safety of the nearby Bluebird. The owners are not ashamed of being in the dive bar genre, like the old smoky Springwater. Best Dive.
