While the place goes by International Art Gallery, most of the peices inside are exclusivly African. Of couse, I don’t have the money to drop on art at this particular price range, I still love to have a look around at it. I actually found some statues and a few fertility figures I recognized from an art history class I took in college. If you don’t plan to buy, but you’re interested in/studied this particular type of art, this is a good place to get a hands on feel and look to the various totems and such to the African people. I’d say it’s a learning experiance as much as it is a gallery.

The International Gallery is interesting because it’s one of the only places in Nashville to feature this type of art. If you’ve ever seen a gallery featuring this art though, you know that International Gallery’s offerings are pretty standard. The two times I went the vast majority of the pieces were African. That’s fine and all, but it feels a little one note for an international gallery. If you’re in the area, it’s worth dropping in to poke around, especially if you have the kind of expendable cash that you might be able to buy art. Of course I don’t know why you might be on that part Broadway, perhaps after a trip to the Frist?

The International Art Gallery is a one of a kind exhibition and gallery space in downtown Nashville. They specialize in exotic sculptures, some of which are very large in proportions, and others which would be great table top statues. Most of sculptures are very stylized figures carved from wood.
