Thank God i have found an Egyptian grocery store. I have just moved from Los Angeles and now that I am in Tennessee I realize that I should have been more thankful for the overcrowded, loud smelly grocery stores. So this grocery store is small, crowded, poorly organized and stinky — its like you are in Egypt. If you can get over those things this is the place to get middle eastern foods such as: pita bread(real pita bread, not american style), feta cheeses, middle eastern spices, beans, teas, pasties. And because this is a christian market they will have pork products such as mortadella(Middle eastern deli meat), They also prepare sandwiches at their deli that smelled wonderful, but i have personally have not tried. I would have given 5 stars but based on my American eyes they need to improve the smell, organization and overall appearance I am still looking for a good Latin/Spanish market but for my multicultural family but ½ the search is complete.

Hookahs and accessories yay! Okay so we had an Egyptian connect who told us to check this spot out since we were in the market to purchase our own hookah. Now mind you homeboy(the owner) seemed like he didn’t know a word of English and communication was near impossible for me but we made-do. Got an authentic Egyptian-made hookah, a big box of the coal and 6 full boxes of assorted flavors(and a bag of tea biscuits lol) for $ 100. It was a fantastic trip to Little Egypt, the owner was super friendly and so were the customers who all stood around watching us being all excited about our purchase! Actually one bystanding customer was so awesome she insisted on us opening the box to make sure all was well inside and sure enough the small little clay thingie that holds the tobacco was broken so the owner gave us a new one. Saved us time and gas from the return trip we would have had to make!

i’m a fan. i come here mainly for the insanely cheap baked goods. i also keep hope alive that they will sell cold maltas individually, but i don’t think it’s going to happen :(the large case of sweet baked stuff tempts me every single time, but i always resist. one day i will not be so strong… there is produce in the back, and it’s cheeeeeap. that’s also where the butcher is located. for quick trips, be advised that you will need to have at least five bucks worth of stuff for them to swipe your card. just sayin. eric b

The Gold Star market may not be located in the most inviting part of town(just South of I 24 near the airport), but it is a good source of Middle Eastern and African groceries. The place is a little dingy, but they offer all sorts of products not normally found found on the shelves of a conventional convenience or grocery store, from spongy discs of African bread to an enticing variety of Middle Eastern teas, all at a pretty reasonable prices. The store is surprisingly large, with an array of fresh produce, canned goods, drinks, snacks, and groceries.
