What an amazing find! We have lived downtown for almost 4 years and just happened upon this great spot. They have it all figured out, location, ambiance, food and service. I had the fried chicken with sides and my wife had the prime rib hash. Both of our meals were great. We can’t wait to come back and try some different items. I personally want to have breakfast, I got a bite of my wife’s biscuit and it was really good. The service was spot on as well. Eric is an obvious professional and loves what he does. He made sure we always had what we needed even though he was really busy. He seemed like a friend making suggestions about his favorites and telling us all about the place when we asked. If you live in the area of are visiting, I highly recommend stopping by for a meal. You won’t be sorry you did.

I admit, I was skeptical when I was brought here. The website didn’t list their menu, and the website just seemed very outdated overall. However, I was pleasantly surprised at this establishment. While it doesn’t look like much from the outside, I had a great lunch here on my trip to Nashville. The server was very attentive throughout the entire meal. I really enjoyed my chicken and waffles — the waffle was very crispy on the outside and soft in the middle and it stayed like that even when I added the syrup. The portions were ample as well. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover and try this place out!

The building has a southern charm. The whole staff is very welcoming and then they serve some very unique dishes that are outstanding. Highly recommend.

Stopped in for breakfast as it was convenient to the Doubletree. Excellent food, warm and friendly service. Definitely an establishment worthy of return visits.

Overall I was impressed! The service was a tad slow considering it wasn’t too crowded, but the food was delicious & well worth the wait! One thing I love is that they serve breakfast all day! It seems like they’re known for their chicken and waffles, but I’ve heard a lot of great things about their full menu. My two main cons was parking– they don’t have a private lot(like most downtown restaurants) so keep that in mind if you are going downtown just to eat here. I will say I was surprised to find some lots with reasonable all-day parking($ 10) just a couple of blocks away. Of course that’s not the business’ fault, but I know parking is a main concern for many locals. The other con is they were out of some different things we inquired about. But I know we had probably come just after a breakfast rush, and stock doesn’t magically reappear. Of course I would pick the things that happened to be out of LOL. But the waiter made some great suggestions, and I was really happy with the waffle combo plate I had. Honestly it was one of the best waffles I’ve had in a long time! Also– if the owner posts a closing early sign on a privately owned business it’s usually because they have a family emergency. Or it’s a holiday. Businesses have to be open to make money so they don’t take the decision to close early lightly. I saw someone complain about that and couldn’t help but to point that out. If you do come downtown *just* to eat at a locally owned place, it never hurts to call ahead to double check their hours for that day. Finally, the restaurant is super close to TPAC so it’s the perfect option for dining if you’re going to see a show!

Awesome awesome food! Service was great, nicely decorated place, delicious food. You can’t get any better than this. I’m so glad we came here. We tried to come twice but the line was a little long on Sunday around 11am for our grumbling tummies. Otherwise, we would have dined again. Definitely a highlight of our trip!

Excellent for Breakfast Stopped in with colleagues for breakfast during a conference. The location is easy to find and the interior is your small town diner of yore. The place and staff give you a family-run feel. Service was amiable, with orders, drinks, and meals coming very quickly. We were never left waiting. It was my first time having Chicken and Waffles… and it was GOOD. The waffles are thick and hold the syrup well, while the chicken tenders with nicely seasoned and moist. It tempted me to return for lunch to try the fried chicken. Alas, my flight times didn’t permit. It’s worth the visit!

Cool atmosphere was very excited about the garbage in the wall and the theme they had going on real cute to look at. I don’t know if we got unlucky with our server or what happened but we did have a lack of communication and we did wait for her to come back with what we asked for with what she forgot the first timenot entirely the first place I go back to but it’s cute to go once. The food was marginal on the better side but deafly nothing memorable for me personally.

I was in Nashville for a conference this past weekend and needed some Southern food — fried chicken to be precise. I recently moved from SC to the Midwest, and you just can’t get good fried chicken in Nebraska… The fried chicken at 417 Union was excellent, as were the side items — mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread dressing, turnip greens, and cranberry sauce. The food reminded me of my home. The restaurant also has a nice selection of local beers, and the staff displayed the Southern hospitality that one would expect. My friends and I had a great dining experience here!

Pay no attention to their published hours! I walked 6 blocks to visit this restaurant only to find a hand written sign, taped to the door, announcing they were closing an hour early. They just started serving dinner during the week — it’s going to take a while for people to realize this. If you are going to publish hours, STICKTOTHEM!!! if you are going to close randomly, say so! Try Back Alley Diner or Fleet Street Pub instead. They look seedy but their food is top notch and their hours are ASADVERTISED. At least the manager apologized. It’s an inexcusable error to me and there are far too many places to eat in Nashville for this kind of buffoonery. I’m out, done, won’t be back.

Sunday morning breakfast. Crowded with people in town for a Titans game. The service was outstanding. Friendly and attentive but not hovering. Great southern accent. Reminded me of home. We started with drinks, a poinsettia for my companion and a Pimms Cup for me. My companion loved the champagne and cranberry juice with a lime wedge. The Pimms Cup was unusual. It was made with puréed cucumber. It was surprising, but nice. Both of us ordered omelets, she the veggie and me the farmers. Both were light and full of fresh ingredients. The bacon cooked in mine was remarkably crunchy. The biscuits were hot, light and buttery. The sourdough toast was good. The homemade blackberry preserves were a treat. I Like this place, a lot.

What a gem of downtown Nashville! If you are having a hard time finding it, keep looking. It has a great look on the outside, which is continued inside. A wonderful old feel and you can assume those walls have heard a lot. In my opinion, some of the best Fried Chicken in Nashville. The mashed potatoes were exceptional in consistency and flavor. Finished my side selection with corn bread dressing(DOIT!) and french fries. Overall, the food was great and my waitress never stopped smiling or being attentive. I will be coming back for breakfast as I saw someone order off of the after hours breakfast menu and am hooked.

Great mom and pop diner in what looks like an old house. Started with a Bloody Mary with a piece of bacon in it… What? So good! Then I had the pancake combo. It was all great. Service was good as well!

I have been here several times, & I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. I love this place! Every time we’re in Nashville we stop in for breakfast. The omelets(actually so is the scramble) are great! the blueberry lemonade is summer in a glass! the cheesy grits are cheeza-licious and the biscuit is soft & crisp. the homemade jam, which you can buy at check-out, is scrumptious. Every time we’ve had great knowledgeable and attentive wait staff. Each time it’s been a great way to start the day.

Items Selected: Half Dozen Buttermilk Biscuits with Housemade Blackberry Jam French Toast New Orleans Style with Vanilla Maple Syrup and Caramelized Bananas Pancakes with Strawberries and Cream Chicken & Waffles — Belgian waffle, boneless fried chicken, vanilla maple syrup, whipped butter, fresh fruit Again planning an early breakfast before attending the morning sessions of AACE2015 it was to local’s joint 417 Union that we pointed the GPS and arriving just moments after opening to find a few folks already seated it was to down-home service and surprisingly excellent fare that we were treated — the outdated online menu a lone disappointment as I was denied s Snickerdoodle some sources feel to be beyond compare. Named and decorated to celebrate Southern heritage and the men and women serving the armed forces both now as well as in the past, 417 Union features scratch-made breakfasts and lunches made from mostly locally sourced ingredients and although prices may appear low when perusing the a menu full of favorites the portions prove to be anything but, two-entrees and a shared appetizer plus biscuits almost overburdening the four-top at which three of us sat. Making the kitchen aware that we wished to dine within an hour, and as such served plates just as soon as they were ready from the kitchen, it was indeed the aforementioned biscuits that first arrived and with ample notes of buttermilk amidst the fluffy risen crumb one couldn’t help but be excited for all the things to come. Listening to a news program playing on a television near the bar it was just as the first biscuit was to be slathered with housemade jam that the rest of the order was brought, and rearranging real estate to fit it all in a veritable smörgåsbord of shared plates began, the pancakes with strawberries every bit as well crafted a batter as the biscuits while deep fried French toast topped in molten bananas and caramel was perhaps the very definition of crispy decadence, a light waffle topped in slightly tough chicken but upgraded substantially by housemade vanilla syrup proving the only item short of exemplary, though still a worthy rendition of a classic that now seems to be omnipresent on breakfast menus from coast-to-coast and north-to-south.

My favorite place for breakfast when in Nashville. I love the way the restaurant honors the heroes of WWII in the main downstairs dining area. Upstairs covers the Civil war. The staff is always friendly. I love a good omelette and they deliver one the way I like it: stuffed full, paper-thin egg(no pancake batter here to pouf it up like IHOP) and egg cooked just to the proper done consistency. You get a lot of food for a decent price and the side options are widely varied for most tastes.

The SO and I stopped in late Saturday afternoon following a matinée performance of Death of a Salesman. There was no sign indicating whether or not to wait to be seated. We waited about ten or fifteen minutes and after not seeing hide nor hair of an employee, we grabbed some menus and seated ourselves. Another ten minutes went by and we finally see staff… seating people. Whoops. A waiter came by to take our order and we apologized for not waiting to be seated. Service was friendly but slow. It took approx 30 minutes from ordering to dinner appearing. I tried the Great American Cheeseburger which I found to be more of an average American cheeseburger. I ordered it medium well and it came out medium rare. I never send food back and can eat meat in just about any state, so I just made due. I liked the historic dinner feel but the place was so loud we couldn’t hear ourselves think. I would rate both the food and the service as average, meaning there are other places I’d much rather eat.

We just stopped in at this restaurant to grab a bite to eat while in Nashville and I have to say that we were not dissapointed. We were greeted by incredible staff and our waiter Eric was very pleasant. I bought the country fried steak which was deliscious and my wife’s western omelet was great as well. Overall we enjoyed our meals, the service was great, and I have to say I had the best biscuits ever here at this restaurant. We will have to stop in again if ever in the Nashville area.
