Wouldn’t have went here without a Groupon I purchased for $ 45 which included 2 drinks, an app, and 2 full size entrees. Food was great– but would have been ridiculously expensive otherwise

I hadn’t eaten at George’s in years and years and was hoping it would be everything it used to be. While the location, views and ambiance are wonderful and our server was friendly and attentive, our party had mixed feelings about our lunch. The clam cakes were ok, but they have some competition in the area that makes better ones. I liked the RI chowder — the broth was tasty but could have used a few more clams. For my friends who were looking for the creamy style New England chowder(which George’s does not make) they offer to add cream to the RI style clear broth chowder — this resulted in a strange, undeveloped soup that neither were happy with. The fried fish sandwich was very good — a perfect portion of nice fried haddock. The house made chips that are served with it were dry and bland. I was looking forward to the fish tacos because the fish is roasted and not fried for these. I was quite disappointed with these as the fish was small, dry and flavorless — they were saved by the yummy chipotle mayo and George’s own jalapeño hot sauce. While this place is perfect for before or after a trip to Block Island or the beach, as a destination for a meal, I’m not sure anymore. Maybe everything just tastes better when it’s summer!

I surprised my mother with a 5 day trip to Newport RI a couple of weeks ago. During my research for the trip I came across George’s of Galilee online. It had boasted that it is right on the docks and fresh seafood was literally at the back door with local fisherman bringing in their catches right off the boats. My mother & I made the trip from Middletown RI on 9÷23÷15. We were both very excited to have some fresh seafood that we remembered being from Boston before moving to Orlando, Florida 35 years ago. The restaurant was clean and well lit and we were seated at a two top close to the bar in the back corner of the restaurant. I asked our server Garrett if «steamers» were on the menu? He said«no problem» and brought me out a plate with what he said was 4 oz. of clams. They were rubbery and tough, lacking the buttery complex flavor profile one would expect from of the boat fresh seafood. Next we ordered the«Baked stuffed lobster» as it was Lobsterfest in September so we figured we would get a nice size lobster, fresh from docks expertly prepared by the kitchen. Instead we were brought out two«chicken» lobsters at about a 1 ½ #. They were topped with flavorless bread stuffing, the meat was so overcooked it was laughable. You know you have a bullshit lobster when a women with in her 70’s with bad wrist can crack a lobster claw with a pinch between her thumb and finger! Living in Orlando we know the tourist traps back here. This is one of the biggest ripoff restaurants I have seen in a long time. I would tell anyone reading this review to not go here and save yourself a lot of money and aggravation FYI I have been in the restaurant industry my entire working career of over 30+ years from major hotels, country clubs, restaurant owner and currently an executive chef/pastry chef

Came in here on a Saturday night for dinner– sat upstairs by the live music which wasn’t too loud. Skip ordering the lemonade cocktails, it’s essentially no vodka and Minute Maid. We ordered the buffalo shrimp to start, which is hard to mess up and then half a dozen oysters. All around solid start. We waited quite a bit for our food after but we’re spoiled with fast service from NYC so we kept our mouths shut. The waiter did come by and apologize and offered us a free round on the house so big plus for that! The waiter was also really attentive and nice the entire night. My SO ordered the lazy mans lobster special and j ordered the fish tacos. Neither of us were keen on the zucchini or mashed potatoes side I ordered but my boyfriend plowed through the lobster and I gobbled up my large fish tacos. Overall, a really really solid meal! Great views of the harbor and the sunset too. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area.

This place is great seafood and really reasonable prices! I enjoyed the fish tacos and was not disappointed! The service is awesome, the prices are right and great views. The dill clam chowder is a MUST, I’ve lived in New England my whole life and this chowder is next level. Sit on the patio if it’s a nice day out, such a great place. Will be back next summer for sure!

Really good vibes but some of the food is average but they have free parking and live music. I will always come back to this place because it’s right on the beach, they have a fire pit, lounge and all around good vibes. The only thing I wish is that some of the entrées were worth the price that you paid for them. I do like their clam chowder’s but stay away from the Rhode Island clam chowder, since this taste like salt water and a little bit of seafood. Definitely get the cream your clam chowder if you expect the taste of a New England clam chowder. Also they do really good scallops and the servers are awesome. We got a lot of recommendations about the neighboring towns and where to go for certain things from my server. He lives in Narragansett all year so he had some really good tips.

This is when I wish you could give a separate review for service and food. Food was very good! We sat upstairs near the bar. We asked to be moved closer to the window which the hostess did. However we never received silverware, even after we asked and after we got our food. The service wasn’t terrible, but for the price and ambiance, we expected a little more. I had stuffed shrimp and the lobster bisque which was good, but borderline too creamy. My husband had the snail salad which he really enjoyed!!! Kids had chicken fingers and pasta which were fine. The highlight for kids were the prizes in the treasure box on the way out … Thumbs up. Great views !

Sat at the bar, friendly bartenders, great drinks. Love the food. The salmon is always good, the buffalo shrimp are amazing as an appetizer. We always go here when visiting RI. The bar has great views of the water also.

My family and I have been going here for years. Every year we rent a house in RI and went to George’s every year at least once if not twice. Sad to say after our experience last night we will Never be back. The waiter was one of the worst servers we ever had anywhere. Our food sat and came out cold for appetizer and dinner. It took 35 minutes for him to take our orders. Food was also not up to par. Never again…

Stopped by George’s with a group of friends while in town for a friend’s wedding. We sat outside early on a Friday afternoon. It had been far too long since I’d had a great lobster roll. I told our server about my gluten allergy and, within just a couple of minutes, the manager(John, if memory serves) came over to run through the menu and tell me what my options were. Usually they have a gluten-free bun for lobster rolls, but no such luck that day, he said. But offered to put it on a lettuce wrap, which was great. A few minutes later he was back — pointing to a delivery truck that was pulling in with, among other items, gluten-free buns! So, in the end, I got a delicious lobster roll, on a bun, and was really impressed by the attentiveness. Our party of eight thoroughly enjoyed the food and the casual beach atmosphere. Thumbs way up!

Nice environment especially when sitting outside. Service was good. Food was also good. Place is pretty busy so there was an hour wait. Parking is a little tough when busy. Had a dead bug in my mixed drink, they replaced it with another but they should have taken it off the bill in that situation as should any restaurant. Overall wouldn’t mind giving them a second chance.

I’m sorry to report that after years of visiting Georges each summer, this my be my last. The chowder from the take out window was basically water and potatoes with a splash of milk. No flavor, no clams. No thank you.

Avoid peak hours. It’s the mistake most people make when they go to George’s for the first time. Instead, visit late afternoon on a weekday when there’s still plenty of sunshine and parking. You will discover that on a weekday, Galilee’s atmosphere is the same, the ocean smells the same, inebriated tourists stumble off the ferry the same, and the seagulls attack the same — but the food is significantly better! On this sunny Thursday afternoon, we sat out on the patio and ordered the chowder(a bit sub-par for compared to what you can get a round town) an order of clam cakes(a delight) and whole-bellied fried clams(because ordering clam strips is grounds for divorce in this village). The fried clams were small and local, and very, very sweet — perfect! And the clam cakes were the best I’ve had this season, anywhere. Eat early, eat often.

Dear Management, I have been coming by your restraint for over 40 years. It looks great. I desperately want your food and service to be good, but it isn’t. We came in on Father’s Day this year for BBQ. There was none. We stayed and ordered. The lobster bake for two seemed interesting. We inquired with the waitress about it and was told it was 39.99 the. She checked and it’s 49.99. we decide to get it. The. There is a question on how big of a lobster we want so we say whatever comes with it. Long story short the dinner for 2 is one 1.25 lobster. In hindsight it did not say twin lobster dinner but really??? The lobsters 100 feet away on the boats are 8.00. The sausage was horrible, several clams unopened. Really not worth it. My kids didn’t like the kids meal which is too bad as we have a summer house 4 minutes away. You think after 40 years(for me) you would stop providing sub par food directed at tourists and provide some real quality dining??? That being said great place for drinks and apps. The bar has great views and plenty of beer and cocktail selections. I will go back because it’s there and is in a great location. I just want it to be good.

Nothing but love for the upstairs room at George’s! The bartender was so great! With such a big drink and food menu, it’s hard to find a personable and knowledgable bartender at times but the staff at George’s hit the mark on our visit. STUFFIES to kill for and a homemade Bloody Mary mix that was superb! Can’t beat the view or the breeze there. Private parking lot, always a plus, and hard to come by in a beach front restaurant. Lots of options here-several bars and indoor and outdoor seating.

My friend from college took my fiancé here last week for dinner and the ambiance was great. A gorgeous sunset started off a rather chilly spring evening so we sat inside. Cocktails were good, and the food was also. I tried a clam cake which was tasty and new to me. For dinner I opted for the steamed lobster and three local oysters to start. Our server James M was decent and gave us good service. We arrived at the dinner hour and upstairs it was more boisterous with live music, but downstairs was perfect to be able to catch up and chat. For a Friday night it seemed busy but we were the last table to leave, we tried not to be campers but at the same time it had been awhile since we had seen one another. I would go back next time I am in Narragansett for sure. For three before tip it was $ 111.

A summer favorite on your way to or back from BI. They get packed at times but the bar is always available with full menu. The quahogs are my favorite.

The mashed potatoes were very good, the portion size was reasonable for the price, and the atmosphere is nice. Unfortunately, that is all the praise that I can give to George’s. I ordered a surf and turf. I imagined a thick, juicy steak. The steak was very thin and was rather bland. My wife ordered a stuffed flounder, which I was initially impressed with, especially in comparison to my steak, but I soon realized was similarly bland. We came at the end of February. They didn’t exactly have the A team working that night, but I’m worried that the service is even worse when they are busy in the summer. Our waitress, although friendly, was not terrific and seemed to need a lesson on how to be an effective waitress. If I had a dollar for every time she walked by our table when our plates were empty and at the edge of the table it would have covered the check. Even with better service, this restaurant was terribly mediocre and I wouldn’t return.

Amazing clamcakes and lobstah bisque! And as a native Rhode Islander, I take my seafood seriously. They clamcakes weren’t greasy and had just the right amount of clams in them. The lobstah bisque was good – not the best I’ve ever had, but it was good. We sat on the outside deck and had a nice meal – great views of the ocean. Our waitress forgot about us towards the end of the meal. We were going to order additional beers, but she was no where to be seen. I get that she probably had tables inside as well, but we were sitting there for 15 minutes just waiting, and waiting, and waiting. NOTE: It’s annoying and borderline sickly to have the smokers right below you in the parking lot and to keep getting whiffs of smoke throughout your meal. It’d be nice to have a designated smoking area that wouldn’t interfere with the outside tables who are trying to eat.
