I have been in both stores in Naples looking for items while doing remodel jobs. Every now and again i dont mind paying the extra money for a used item if I cant find it anywhere else or its unique, but this last visit to the shop on Yahl street confirmed I will not be back. I’ve got better luck at a garage sale. The unopened gallons of paint I bought were no good and I was not allowed to open them to check. They must have been very old and not able to sell elsewhere. A real disappointment, as I try to give back to the community every chance I get by supporting these organizations. I assume the reason their prices are so high is because they have to pay their bills with the profits made from donated items. If there are not enough donations, its difficult to keep the doors open and still offer assistance to the community. In all fairness I believe in order to keep customers coming and continuing to help the community someone should be in charge of researching what the value of these used items are and be consistent. Even Goodwill compares to Ebay etc.

WRITTENTOCEOANDCOPIEDTOOTHERSONWEBSITE; I have shopped at Habitat for Humanity several times in Naples and other locations. To my disappointment, I have found several items that are overpriced. Most recently, a Roadmaster 18 speed women’s bicycle priced at $ 100.00. The tires were not pumped up and there was no way to know if the gears, brakes, nor any other mechanism was working correctly. I asked to try the bike, even offering to leave a $ 100.00 cash to promise I would return after trying the bike, and the associate said I could not do that because of liability. I asked«How would I know that all was working well and what was their policy, if not?» The gentleman answered saying, «I can see no reason why it wouldn’t be working.» That was not a satisfactory answer, especially given that the bike was priced at $ 100.00. I learned a new one, same manufacturer, similar model and features, all assembled, with warranty and return policy, can be purchased at Walmart for $ 79.99. While in the store, I overheard a woman that was disappointed because she bought a microwave from your store and when she got it home it didn’t work. While I do not know all the circumstances, I could understand how this could happen. I have also found overpriced dishware and bakeware, that can be purchased new for less, such as pie plates, ironing board, bowls, Corelle dishware, measuring cups, ice cream maker, and electric tea kettles. I know prices, feel deceived and wonder how the managers arrive at these prices. When shopping at Habitat for Humanity, I strive for 3 purposes; 1) good/fair prices, 2) reuse good items with life left, and 3) to help the non-profit organization. While I understand you want to maximize your income, it is with the Habitat name. I no longer feel you are reputable by these offerings. I would understand if one or 2 items, but it has happened often enough that I feel your organization is taking advantage of it’s customers who support your cause.

Several times I’ve seen items that are way overpriced. Elec. teakettle– $ 20.00 and currently sells new for $ 19.99. Roadmaster 18 speed bike has a $ 100.00 price, tires underinflated, and no way to try it to see if it’s working well. No guarantee that all is OK, Same brand, NEW similar bike, assembled, sells at Walmart now for $ 79.99. Ironing board sells for $ 10.00 in Walmart, and here, used, for $ 10.00. Cuisinart’s ice cream maker is used, older, and has $ 25.00 tag, is overpriced. Dishware, bakeware, baking dishes, pie plates, all overpriced and often sells new for less. Not recommended if you want to save $$.
