This was the first stop of our wine country 2015 vacation. The winery still seems to be getting some of the grounds together but in general everything was very nice. I believe it was Michelle(I’m terrible with names) who poured for us and she was wonderful. We appreciated the fact that the owner, Mary Rocca, took some time to stop out and say hello and chat some. The wines were exceptional. My wife and I purchased two 2007 Syrah and two 2010 Cabs. As an aside, we have tasted for two days now and of all the wineries we visited, Rocca and Bennett Lane were the best experiences and wines. I’d recommend making Rocca a stop on your next wine tasting trip!

We were about to leave Napa, but on a whim, my fiancé and I decided to stop by one last vineyard. Rocca Family Vineyards turned out to be one of the better ones out of all the ones we tried. Upon arrival, there was huge white house, no sign and looked like it was not open for business. However, we knocked on the door and a friendly gentleman greeted us and invited us in for some tastings. We had the tastings outside on the porch, overlooking the backyard while enjoying the sunny California weather. It was an intimate tasting since it was just us and very relaxing. The wines were really great, especially the cabernet savignons and I’m a big fan of cabs. The tasting was also very informative and I learned a lot about wine, grapes, aging, etc. Also, Rocca had some of the older wines ranging from 2008 – 2009, which is rare since most vineyards try to push out their wine for sale as quickly as possible. I would highly recommend this vineyard and would go back again. I ended up leaving with a bottle of Syrah and Cab. They definitely know their wine and will not push a product out until it’s ready!

****************************** REVIEW851 ******************************* I was twitting up the storm to see which wineries would respond to my quest to hunt down smaller wineries in Napa, after all, I’ve been to many wineries, most of those that got amazing wines 90+ rated by Wine Spectator than the like. This spring trip break with my girlfriends, I just want to try something new, something small and we foudn Rocca Family Vineyards. Since they just moved their tasting room to this new beautiful Victorian house off of hwy 29, I thought we were driving to Dexter’s house. There’s no sign, no way anyone would have know this is the tasting room. Well, we later find out that they are not officially open to the public yet till next month. This beautiful home got renovated nicely. We got invited in by John, he was tall, nice, and passionate about what he does here at Rocca Family Vineyards. He poured us generously wines that we can remember. For $ 30, you got to taste estate wines which most of the wineries around Napa, you have to pay the arm and leg for it. Rocca Family Vineyards only produces red, their pride is Cabernet Sauvignon and they were all quite good. My GF Tara loves the 2008 Merlot Grigsby Vineyard, Napa Valley; while my other GF Karla loves the 2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Grigsby Vineyard, Napa; my FAV was the 2007 «Bad Boy» Red Blend, Yountville a Bordeaux style blend — However, we all agree on the 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Collinetta Vineyard was the winner of all. I ended up order 2 cases to share with my friends at Sent Sovi Wine Lounge on Wednesdays. So if you want a taste of this 2007 «Bad Boy» Red Blend, Yountville; come by Sent Sovi Wine Lounge, you will be happy, I promise! Their wines run from $ 32 to $ 90, reasonable and well loved. We all enjoyed our experience very much and looking forward to return on our next trip. We can only imagine when they are ready to re-grand opening this new location tasting room, it’s going to be awesome with BBQ, food event, local guest chefs, movie night and more. So if you want to try something new, give Rocca Family Vineyards Tasting Room a try, please tell Mr. John, that I sent you, maybe you get a discount or a generous pour on Rocca Cabernet. Good wines, reasonable price, great service!

Great wine! Really nice people working in the tasting room as well. A definite must stop if you are doing the Napa wine tasting walking tour around downtown!

Rough. I’ve been coming to the Napa/Sonoma region for about five years(my parents live there) and Rocca’s service was the worst I’ve experienced… ever. It’s possible it was a bad day for our host, but still have trouble thinking of kind excuses for such lousy treatment. The value was crummy for the price of the $ 10 tasting(almost as if they point at their 93 Wine Spectator review as an excuse to not care about us). I don’t think our hostess made eye-contact with a single person in our party, didn’t educate us on a single aspect of any wine other than the name, and acted as if we were a burden. The only help we were given was the fact that going in there made us want to leave quicker than planned and get back on our busy schedule of going to seven MUCH more hospitable and equally delicious winemakers. Despite the cold lack of hospitality the wine was fantastic. We ended up purchasing about $ 150 worth of the wine– however, the tasting was not comp’ed. Don’t waste your time– you can buy the wine cheaper in stores. Enjoy the grounds of a nicer vineyard and the conviviality of a host that appreciates their business.

Rocca Family Vineyards just opened its tasting room in Napa next to Cole’s Chop House. I was introduced to their wine earlier this year when I had the 2001 cabernet sauvignon. I loved it. They only serve Rocca wines, but with a cab, syrah and another Rocca brand called Big Boy(or is it Bad Boy?) to choose from, there’s plenty of great wine to make you happy. The tasting room is small yet comfortable, with soft leather chairs in addition to stools along the tasting bar. When I stopped by on Saturday, owners Mary Rocca and Eric Grigsby happened to stop in on their way to dinner. Both were very nice, and it was a treat to chat with them. Great for having a pre-dinner glass or two.
