We are locals who enjoy driving around Napa on weekends taking pictures at wineries as a hobby. Upon hearing about the architecture, we stopped by to take some pictures of the winery from the outside. As we were taking pictures outside of the entrance, a man came to let us know that if we don’t have an appointment today, then he would have to ask us to leave the property. My husband and I felt very insulted and unwelcome. In comparison, we went to another winery after that called Starmont. At that time, they were having a private party for their wine club members. I asked if there was a private event, and they nicely told us yes, but gave us his business card to have us return the next day and have a complimentary free tasting. That’s the ideal way to treat potential customers and the right way to run a business. Treat people with respect. I wouldn’t even consider going to Quixote winery for tasting based on the way we were treated.

My favorite wine tasting in Napa! But, you have to make a reservation. The tour guide was very through in explaining both the wine making process, the history of the vineyard, and answered all of my random questions. He went into greater detail with the wines since I am a novice, which I really appreciated. The architecture itself is amazing and reminded me of Barcelona. It was $ 45 for 4 wine tastings plus a cheese pairing. The winery itself is sort of tucked away, behind Stags Leap, so follow google maps precisely and it will take you there.

Hands down my favorite winery that we visited in Napa! We took the tour + tasting and enjoyed the story of how the winery was started and the eccentric owner and designer behind the crazy building. It reminds you of Barcelona, it is unique and beautiful. We enjoyed two glasses while doing the tour and while the tour doesn’t last very long, we learned a lot. This is more of a craft winery so its small batches and limited runs that cannot be bought in stores. YOUMUSTMAKERESERVATIONS!!! They have a crazy permit that only allows them to have a certain number of guests on the premises so if you just happened to drive up they have to turn you away. Blame the county… In the tasting room we tried several different wines and they leave you alone to enjoy it and then come back and discuss it a little bit. Interesting, I kind of liked it. The cheese was really good and brought out the flavors quite well. We loved the 2010 petite syrah and bought a bottle. It was really interesting to taste the same wine from two different years and taste how different they are. I am by no means a wine expert so I found this fascinating. I feel that this was the best wine I tasted while in Napa. The depth of flavor and smoothness are really wonderful and things I want in a good wine. This place isn’t cheap, we were really lucky to have a family member who is part of the wine club so we got discounts on everything. Be sure to come visit, you will be glad you did.
Stumbled in onto Quixote, located right next to Stags Leap. Interesting architecture. Lot of tile work. Nice for them to fit us in for a tour same appointment. Never really experienced Petite Syrah until I checked out Quixote. Ended up getting the $ 90 bottle of Syrah. First purchase of a bottle of wine more than $ 40. Highly recommend the wine.
