I am 24, I saw this doctor for a herniated disc that I’d had for 5 months. He looked at an mri that was 4 months old and came in and told me the same exact thing I had heard 4 months earlier which he read from the old Mri. I tried to tell him things had changed since then and told him about what had happened in the prior months and how the injury had progressed(I had reinjured it twice and it felt worse). He didn’t really seem to listen and he told me the symptoms should go away soon. I called later after symptoms were not getting better but worse and told his assistant that I understand their perspective but I wanted to pay out of pocket for a new mri and have him and a different doctor look at it to be sure we knew exactly what was happening in my back. She told me he refused to order one and I tried to explain why I thought a current one might help but they said NO. It felt almost disrespectful that they wouldn’t even allow me to pay for my own mri because they thought I didn’t need one. They thought he knew for sure what was happening when really he was making a guess based off old and no longer relevant information. When I asked how they came to that conclusion, they said it was from the mri and it seemed like they didn’t care what I thought. Communication and patient interaction was unacceptable.
