As a local, this is still one of my favorite places to go. I’m obsessed with their Chicken Tortilla Soup and pomegranate margaritas! You have to sit at the bar cause Jeff and Terron are awesome!

My mother and I went for lunch of Valentine’s Day a few days ago. The service was great, no complaints about that. The food was absolutely TERRIBLE. So bland, no flavor what so ever. My mom ordered the grilled fish tacos and they tasted rotten. She had ordered a mango margarita and that tasted like old mangos also, so she switched for a strawberry marg and it was barely decent. I ordered the chicken tacos(hard shell) there was no flavor, I honestly couldn’t even stomach looking at them. Zero food presentation. It made me nauseous looking at them. The lemonade I ordered tasted and looked more like water. Needless to say never going back.

Ambience and staff are the only reason I’m rating this place with a star at all. We’ve been here several time against our better judgement but friends and family keep inviting us for birthday parties. Maybe next time we will just bring our own food so that we can enjoy the setting and people and not be sick from the disgusting food all night long.

So much potential, BUT… Great location, rooms, patio etc. But food was very bland last night. Seemed very overpriced for quality especially. $ 18 for a combination plate?! Guacamole tasted rotten. Not one of the 6 of us could eat it. Wood table was disgustingly dirty. She came and wiped it again but the stickiness needs real scrubbing. Service was mediocre too. No one greeted our table and we finally had to flag someone down to get water. Ate there about a year ago and don’t recall food being so bad, Service slow etc. Did something change?

This place is nice. Food was good; I had the chicken and avocado sandwich — good amount of chicken and avocado inside, little too much cheese. Came with curly fries which were delicious — light and crispy. Boyfriend had the Tijuana burrito(fish) and he said it was pretty good. Ambience was nice, we sat outside on their patio with a nice view of the creek. They had heaters outside which were great as it was a little breezy and chilly. The waitress was very friendly. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Well it always difficult to accept disappointment. I love this local sports bar and TACO Tuesday’s rock… I love to come here and hang with friends out on the patio or inside and have fun always with a Margie in hand. The staff are great and a lot of my friends let their teenage children get some first job experience here. It’s got great history and I do love it. I especially love the tortilla soup with fresh avocado and lots of flavor. Today I went in and ordered the tortilla soup. It was around 4:00 and not busy at all on a Saturday. Unfortunately, while I was taking one of the first bites of my soup, I found a very long piece of paper inside. At first I thought it was a weird piece of cheese and then realized it was paper!!! I let the waiter know and they were very apologetic and sent out the manager. He explained that it was stuck to the chicken and wasn’t removed when they made the soup. Gross. Of course they didn’t charge me for the soup but my appetite was ruined. I will go back but I will always be careful before I put any bite into my mouth and look for the unexpected. Sigh.

I really want to like this place but… It’s expensive for food that makes you feel sick or full the rest of the day. We’ve been here enough times to know that, but we just failed ourselves by going again. 6 hours later, I’m still debating forcing myself to vomit to see if I feel better. On the plus side, the river view is great, the staff is nice and the drinks are cold.

Came in after a day of wine tasting and it was excellent. Andrea was our server and she was on it 100%. The tortilla soup bowl is HUGE and taste so good. Could be the beast salsa I’ve ever had in my life with the chips. Maybey still buzzed from the wine but dang it was greasy

Came her for happy hour and it was a group of 13 people. First off! our waitress was just not a Happy person, she seemed bother by just anything in other words not at all good customer service. Our appetizers were good, and our drinks for the most part taste good. You would think for being in the restaurant business they would step up their game. But maybe they just don’t care and are there because they need a job. Unfortunately this makes it not so fun for those looking to have a good time. Not my favorite place…

We usually enjoy going for dinner and on occasion have gone for breakfast. Something was terribly wrong today. Though it was not crowded we seemed to be the«invisible» customers. The server seemed confused; maybe unsure of what to do. It took a long time just to get a cup of coffee and our omelets were so bad we didn’t finish our meal. The bar was loud with customers shouting profanity at a game on tv. This experience was so bad that we don’t want to return. Hopefully it was just a bad day and it will improve.

Came here for a high school reunion and I came here once before, looked at the menu and decided not to dine there. This time I made it past that which ended up being a mix bag as far as the food was concern(which I will talk about here, social aspect was awesome, but that’s a different story). I ended up ordering seafood enchiladas, and to put it bluntly, I feel like this place is what PF Chang is to Chinese Food as Compadres is to Mexican Food. There isn’t anything here that I would consider«authentic». The lay the food on like no other, the portion sizes are huge, which is good and bad. My food was loaded with sauce, grease, and cheese, and while it tasted decent for what it was(a comparable would be Chevy’s in terms of «authentic»), it isn’t something that I would go back to again and to eat there. I’ll go there for social events, as there is a private room and from what I’ve heard, they do fantastic social events there. People said they were better when they were in Yountville, I’m not sure how this could be consider«good».

Worst experience I ever had with a restaurant. Everyone was rude, mean and non-helpful. This fat white guy by the taco stand(I am thinking he’s maybe the owner) totally ignored my girlfriends question. Two girls serving the tacos were rude when I asked them is that spicy chicken. I deal with a lot of businesses And never been disrespected like that before! I pray to God you guys get close down.

I have given this place every chance. Drinks are great. But the food is and has always been less than par. Plus for Mexican food it’s expensive. 4 street tacos 20 bucks. The service is generally good. But today their credit card computer crashed. Luckily we had cash. To bad for such a great location poor food.

Bad service, not authentic Mexican food, very low quality food, drinks suck. Just order beer, you will be better off. Just going even more down hill, does management even care about trying to make this place decent? Food is still horrible, staff could care less about customers. Everything seems microwaved, I could get a better meal with a TV dinner. The only reason I came here again was to meet a friend that I have not seen for a long time. I hope River City will reopen at this location.

I have given Compadres three chances as I always worry that it’s an off day when I have a bad experience, but I will not be back. Service is not good, staff just does not seem to care, and the food is not consistent. First trip bad, second trip good, last trip all the food tasted exactly the same. Way too overpriced for something you can get at Taco Bell. We sat outside on our last visit after being told we would have a heater, but then once we were outside the waiter said the heater did not work; we asked if another heater could be moved over and he said no with no apologies. A meal that should have taken an hour was two hours — almost 30 minutes to take our order and after we finally got our food(had been there an hour by then) did not see our waiter again until she finally brought our check. No refills on water, never able to tell her we never received one of our plates — finally decided not worth it and we shared.

This 3* review is the average based on the following: Patio — 5*. Probably the best patio situation in all of Napa & overlooks the river. Service — 4*. Our server was friendly, prompt, and attentive(can’t remember the girl’s name) but the hostess was rather rude/disinterested. Drinks — 4*. Great margaritas and Negra Modelo(& lots of other beers) on tap Food —(–1*). That’s a NEGATIVE1. The food is probably the furthest thing from Mexican or TexMex or CalMex or even just Mex that I’ve ever had– at least in any location with a Hispanic population. The salsa is closer to marinara and the sauces are obviously canned. Our kids love Mexican food and even they didn’t like the enchilada or quesadilla which were both pretty awful. On the plus side, the guac is decent, our kids liked the fried ice cream, and the place is not lacking customers as it was packed the night we went. That night’s special was fish and chips. Fish and Chips? Mexican? GTFO A great place to have a drink and sit outside to enjoy the patio. Eat before or after. You’re welcome.

The food, the location, the ambiance and the service are excellent. I ate here again last evening with friends and tried the drogonitas. It was really good! I loved the pineapple cooked with pork, chorizo and bacon. My friends have dogs and were on a road trip from Portland, Oregon. They were welcoming to us all. Everyone loved the deck above the Napa River. Kudos to the server recently moved here from Seattle. He was the best. Thank you.

I had the huarache, the dough was undercooked. I didn’t care for their fresh salsa, tangy n sweet.

Two of us shared the fried avocados(see photo) and Tacos(2), with refried beans, fiesta rice, and Mexican salad. We chose the spiced ground beef, Americano style. That was plenty for lunch with 2 alcoholic drinks. The kicker is sitting on the outdoor patio deck(see my other photo) under the large umbrellas for shade watching folks on the river. Perfect weather, bug free this day. No rush from the waitstaff. We were there after the lunch crowd so the waitstaff was very attentive. Let’s use our noggins. If you want to hog the tables(like we did), get AAA+ service(like we did) and have the kitchen perform at it’s best(like it did), show up before or after rush hour for meals. Free WiFi too. Hooked up seamlessly. For the value, I think the prices are very reasonable, especially for Napa Valley.
